nope not true... watch taufik vs lin dan in the WC MS 2005 i think they still did many jump smashes. i think that its probably the fact that many skills were not discovered then.. look, they don't serve by the flick serve but the forehand one unlike now, every MS match u watch u definitely see the flick serve regardless.
Lin Dan, Gade, Taufik, or Lee Chon Wei would absolutely obliterate any of these guys from this era. It blows my mind that they try to conserve so much energy with their fancy footwork, but our top players nowadays try to jumpsmash everything and almost never clear with a forhand from the back
