Macedonians are referred as "Macedonian Slavs", this is because of Greek vs. Slavic (Serb and Bulgarian) rivalry over Macedonia. Politically speaking we re wrong here, as Greeks we should never enter a debate arena where subjects and/or claims of the type: "ancient Macedonia and their inhabitants were not of Greek origin". It's just a lure to open up a discussion with the founders of political propaganda that aimed to manufacture instability in the region. The more we talk about it the more they think we re fanatics. In a world where fanaticism and standing up for your rights is often confused we do more damage than good.

Remember one thing: we are in no hurry to join NATO, the Tetovars and Kossovar Albanians are not out to carve our territory and if they do they cannot. We are not in need to enter the EU to get our economy modernized, we already are. All we ask is that you change the name and make it language and/or geographic specific, like Slavic or Gorna Masedonia etc. It is you who need this to happen soon, not us. Gruevski can talk all he wants about other bilateral issues...he only creates more trouble.

As for the EU, it will not change your name or permit anyone to change your name. The EU works with consensus and therefore if someone wants to enter they have to leave controversial issues out of the door. Nobody said you HAVE to join the EU or NATO. nobody asked or invited you. It is all volunteer. Your political elit, for understood reasons, wants your country to join. For ou to join you have to come to a compromise on the name issue. Simple as that.

Greece helped Bulgaria and Romania join and pushed the EU to accept thema nd helped them go through the runs to assiste them and they were very appreciative. You are very wrong, where do you get your facts? FYROM is not for greece, it is for ALL the interntional fora, and that includes athletic organizations, Olympics, the EU, NATO, the United nations. NOT evryone recognizes you under your (temporary) constitutional name ROM. Many do, but not everyone. Among those who do not is Greece and Greece has the veto power in NATO, EU, etc. Greeks do not want to dig anyone's grave.
