Well, "SMRT" is "DEATH" in czech language, and since i heard of this veeeery legit seeming fix, i would tooootaly ride that... (little aura of sarcasm fully intended)
Next fare hike coming soon due to more purchases of cable ties from MUSTAFFA CENTRE!!!! aiyoh what the hack is happening to the WORLD CLASS TRANSPORT SYSTEM?????
They said its cause of third wheel, but just imaging first blackout on thursday then sat. within 2 days two times. after that nothing happen. what do you think they changed whole mrt third wheel within 1 day or two days? i am thinking still they are hiding from public. this issue should be very transparent.
It's not because of the technicians who do the actual checking. It's the engineers' faults because they never schedule proper maintenance checks. 10 years is a very long time, but to check all the tracks require a lot of manpower, so it cannot be done frequently.
Anyway all systems will fuark up one way or another. it's frustrating, but hating on the system is not going to help solve anything.
I kinda few bad for them because of all those haters rising. i mean. Though they messed up this time, they had always been there working all the time. There's no such thing as a perfect thing or system. There are bound to be problems and hiccups here and there sometimes... Come on, we are reasonable people aren't we?
Maintenance haven pass want to build more tracks...learn how to walk properly first before running..fare so high, but maintenance of older tracks not used for it. Plan only when something happened..hopeless..
WOW, Mrt came into place in 1988 23years ago. So it is safe to assume that they have did 2 maintenance over the 23years. WOW. Prices of fares 1 year up 1 time. checks and maintenance 10+years do 1 time. WOW, Singaporeans' are so fortunate that we have such a reliable transport service.
I used to think that they raised our travel fares for more improvements in the MRT! In the end they still used cable ties to secure the "claws"? Where the fk has our money gone to???
Looking and thinking about what was said and shown, a logical conclusion is that the claws may have been last inspect 10 years or more ago. Interesting how a uber essential piece of the power line that is vulnerable to misalinement is not inspect more regularly, in light of the fact that the system is now running close to max capacity.
The cable tie extra fix is sooooo high tech, must have been a foreign talent idea. I feel so safe now riding in a first world or is it world class train system.
If they wanna use cable ties, they should at least use those that are thicker like the ones they used to "cuff" illegal immigrants/prostitutes at geylang.
Designers design equipments for a reasonable time. Issue is how frequent it's to be inspected.
Seriously, bolts ought to be used just as ways are looked into how to improve the track fittings, even if it meant the NSL southbound be affected longer yesterday.
WOW...using cable tie !!! OMG !!!!!!! 1st World Country, 1st World Gov, 1st World Transport and yet Their are now using cable tie ??..... Is that the rite way for them to treat all the commuters who pay for the tranport fair ?? So it seems that all Commuters live are NOT that importance afterall, The most importance thing are their own paycheck !!! And from this lesson we have once again learned how to save and cut cost by using "cable tie"..
Increase train trips to ease crushing passenger volume, train can't take it. Now double cable tie to the rescue, reduce speed and trains. Back to square one or two??
After all, cable tie will loose of one day, regardless of lowering the speed of the train or whatsoever! This is how the matter being handle? Come on, LTA N SMRT, came out with better ideas! OUR safety comes first!
lol that doctor is not an engineer but a management of transport.. why don't you ask the engineers from NTU? Cable tie as solution? You got to be kidding me. Might as well use duct tapes while at it.
Seriously?? CABLE TIES??? What the bloody hell is all the money we pay used for??? I have to top-up $10 to my card every week, and I don't even travel that much! With so much capital going to them, I expected something way frigging better than CABLE TIES on freaking METAL TRACKS. What kind of dark sorcery is this??? Improve your service standards if you want to hike the damn fare. Don't feed us this stupid bullshit and expect us to take it in our stride. The world has enough shit already.
"These tracks have a lifespan of 50 years, and were found to be sound when last checked 10 years ago."
Ya la. everything 50 years. Freak flood once every 50 years. Mrt track last for 50 years. Last time they mentioned 50 years, end up 3 days later got another flood. Last checked 10 years ago, WTF. Bo maintenance one. I thought the fare hike was for 'improvement', maintenance also don't want to do, talk about what improvement? TUCK YEW!
wow. cable ties on a metal piece. how damn smart. Back in NS, we secured unused lockers with cable ties. When we had to clean them internally, all we had to do was yank them and off the come.
I am so smart, I am so smart! SMRT, I mean SMART

Give the public a full detailed report on the MTBF rating of the cable ties in your given application please.
Include contingency plans on regular checks on the installed cable ties and measures to be taken in event of premature failure.
