I owned a 00gtp modified and I have owned a couple different mustangs modified. My gtp owned all of them and many other mustangs I laugh at people who think no one can beat there mustang aspecially a v6 grand prix. My gtp beat run was a 12.9 quarter mile with street tires not slicks! it went over 300 kilometers an house! it was crazy. It was dynod it has 308 horsepower and 384 torque at the wheels. I even drove it in winter and it got 32 mpg. all you mustang, camaro lovers cant say that!!

@stevedhenning I have beat many of cars that had 100 horsepower or more but its too bad that you havent maybe you need to go buy a gtp just to experience it. How can you say that when 1 car could weigh 1000 more pounds than another car and have no traction at all. I have beaten cars who have had 400-450 horesepower but alot of them were heavier vehicles and some had no traction. I have also lost a couple of times to cars with less horsepower but they had really small cars and good traction

That GT was either not trying to race or was just slow as shit for whatever reason. The GTP took 14 seconds to hit 90 mph in this video. Quick but not fast by any means.
By starting a stopwatch exactly as you launched the car and stopping it as your speedometer hit 90 mph. Just did it again several times for accuracy and got exactly 13.2 seconds for both the first and second race. You probably start your timer as your speedometer needle starts to climb which is a .5 - 1 second delay on most vehicles. You need to start it right when you hit the gas to get accurate and fair results.

They probably weren't anymore modded than this GTP in the vid. Rockers, pulley, pcm, p-log, intake. That's plenty of mods for mid 13's. There's also a BIG difference between a low 15 and a high 15. My GTP is probably more mooded than your stang anyway. It's only getting faster too.
Probly is. I have bills to pay. My Stang only has a carburetor, $75 pair of shorty headers, $100 cam, and $250 2.25" dual exhaust with no "H" or "X" pipe. It has the shittiest manual transmission ever made with the worst third gear ratio (1:1) ever, and it has stock 3.27 gears in the rear, so i'm happy with 14.40s on street tires (2.2 - 2.3 60 ft times) and 13.90s on slicks. Also happy with the EPA 18/28 mpg rating and the leather interior, power everything, etc.

Yea I fixed it a long time ago. It sat for too long and it needed a rebuild. I tore it down, cleaned it, honed the cylinder bores, new pistons, rings, bearings, valve seals, gaskets. Runs great now. My third gear is 1:1 which kills my 1/4 mile ET and trap speed but my 1/8th mile times are decent. It's got a carb, cam, and shorty headers. Stock bottom end, stock heads, stock pullies, stock gears, full interior, a/c, smog pump, power everything. 9.27 @ 76.01 mph on street tires, 2.21 60 ft.
Point-in-case about my third gear, when I hit 5500 rpm in second at 70 mph, I shift to third and it goes down to 3200 rpm and goes till 130 mph. From a 9.27 @ 76.01 mph, I went on to a 14.45 @ 95 mph. I should be going thru the traps at 98-99 mph, and I would be with a T5 but the third gear in my srod 4 speed kills my acceleration between 70 and 90 mph.

I don't think I can change the ratios. The typical thing to do when you get a '79 - early '83 Mustang is to swap the Srod out for a T5. They bolt right in as far as I know. I just haven't gathered $300 to buy a used T5 yet. I'm planning on doing it over the summer or fall. For now the Srod works good enough to get where I need to go but i'm definitely getting rid of it as soon as I gather the cash.
i know man T5 is expensive as hell my friend got one used from a saleen 89 in the bay area for 600 bucks, but yeah when you do that should make a big difference maybe with a profromance clutch to mach that would be nice i was baout to get one like yours GLX its too was a 4spd and red good shape 8/10 for 900 buck if i wasn't in school right now and didn't already have my maxima i would have got it nut hay thats life ahha
Yea I will probably just stick with the clutch I have now. It's the 130 dollar Checker Auto special. Nothing fancy at all. Basically a stock replacement and it grabs hard, doesn't slip even after getting really hot, and is strong. I've put about 50 1/4 mile passes on it and beat the crap out of it every day on the road and it still works like new.
Yea it's easy to go through a couple rear ends if the rear end is either too small for the application or not set up correctly. I have a brand new 8.8" in the Mustang, paid an arm and a leg for it but I won't have to worry about it.
@gtdrummerdude I'm in Tucson and I run 14.7 consistantly. I'm now modded, but have never taken it to the track since modding it. I beat mustangs like nothing all the way up to '08 when they changed the gears to squeeze all they could out of those OHC pieces of junk.

My 1982 emissions crisis 5.0 with nothing more than a mild cam and shorty headers ran 14.40s @ 96 mph with crappy 2.2 60 foot times. I can barely hold up with a stock '05 + GT, same with '99 - '04 GT 5 speeds. There is no way you are beating me and these other Mustangs "like nothing" with a 14.7 1/4 mile.

There's way no way the Mustang was full throttle. He dropped off really bad from the start. Had to have been a horrible driver. It took the GTP exactly 13.5 seconds to hit 90 mph. My old-ass 5.0 that runs mid 14s in the 1/4 hits 90 mph in 12.5 - 13 seconds and i've been beaten from a highway roll by a 2004 GT 5 speed with exhaust and maybe some other mods, not sure.
It's not that hard to make a GTP run fast. All you need is a smaller pulley, chip, and better fuel delivery and you are in the low 13. If you go to zzperf. there are dozen of GTP running in the 11 and 10.
some of you honestly don't know anything, 97 gtp's can do 0-60 somewhere around 6.6s, 03 mustang gt with an automatic tranny can do it in about 6.3s, and about 5.9s for the manual, but by the time the automatic version reaches the quarter mile, it's slower or the same as the stock gtp. these are the official recorded specs by proffesional drivers. i don't get why people are so shocked that mustang gt's can lose to a gtp.

I owned a 00gtp modified and I have owned a couple different mustangs modified. My gtp owned all of them and many other mustangs I laugh at people who think no one can beat there mustang aspecially a v6 grand prix. My gtp beat run was a 12.9 quarter mile with street tires not slicks! it went over 300 kilometers an house! it was crazy. It was dynod it has 308 horsepower and 384 torque at the wheels. I even drove it in winter and it got 32 mpg. all you mustang, camaro lovers cant say that!!

@blown06tc I care about MPG cause when I beat a big v8 that gets like 12 MPG and I have a v6 and get 32 im the one whos laughing cause not only is my car faster but its better on gas. You tell me another vehicle that gets that mileage with this amout of power. You cant tell me another car cause there is none like this. I bet you care about my 384 torque when im flying by you at 300 km's an hour haha. I raced a 05 dodge viper and it beat until it toped out at 280 and mine did over 300!

@kaponyas23 Get off your high horse kid, I make torque too, I make over 350ft. lbs of torque from just over 2k to 6400 rpm, that a hell of a powerband, your car couldn't touch my car with a 10 foot pole even after the 60ft mark in a race. You're not beating any vettes after like 1995 or something, C5 vetters make more power than you and weight a lot less, same goes with camaros after they went with the LS1. Better get used to my rear end because thats all you're seeing of my car in a race.

You do realize that there are plenty of cars (V8 or otherwise) that make MUCH more than that piddly 384fwtq and weigh hundreds of lbs less, right? Also get better fuel mileage, are much more aerodynamic and better built. There is much more than just power when it come to a race.
Now, I'm not knocking the GTP, it's a decent car, but they're NOT the world beaters that you seem to claim. Especially with the numbers you're claiming.

@stevedhenning I have beat many of cars that had 100 horsepower or more but its too bad that you havent maybe you need to go buy a gtp just to experience it. How can you say that when 1 car could weigh 1000 more pounds than another car and have no traction at all. I have beaten cars who have had 400-450 horesepower but alot of them were heavier vehicles and some had no traction. I have also lost a couple of times to cars with less horsepower but they had really small cars and good traction

FYI, my cammed Camaro SS gets about 28 hwy, and my 04 Z06 gets about 30-32 hwy. Just because it's a V8, doesn't mean it gets bad fuel mileage.
And I HIGHLY doubt you beat a viper, nor can hit 190. Not with the numbers you're putting out.

im looking online and the best i've seen for a mustang with a v8 "mpg" wise is 17/25. and that was with the 4.6 24 valve V8. and im guessing you mustang prolly has a bigger v8? i dont know i guess its ur mods. i get 25/37 in my car, but i guess it could be tru i have a uncle who has a excursion diesel that gets 20/35.

By starting a stopwatch exactly as you launched the car and stopping it as your speedometer hit 90 mph. Just did it again several times for accuracy and got exactly 13.2 seconds for both the first and second race. You probably start your timer as your speedometer needle starts to climb which is a .5 - 1 second delay on most vehicles. You need to start it right when you hit the gas to get accurate and fair results.

It was still 12 seconds from 0 to 90 in the first race for the GTP. That's not slow at all for a family sedan with mild bolt-ons.

No it wasn't dude. I hit start on a stopwatch exactly as he launched the car and hit stop as the needle hit 90 mph and got 13.2 second for both runs. I did this 3 or 4 times on each run and got the exact same time every time. It was 13.2 which is still fast so just give it a rest already. And it's not a family sedan. It's the hi-po version of a sports sedan.

Well in case you didn't notice, they were going UP a steep on ramp, so that probably took a good second or so off their time anyway. This GTP ran a 13.5 @ 101-102 mph at the track.

Omg you make so many excuses. GTPs are ok at best. Sure, they can be fast with mods, just like any other car. There is no videos of this car making passes at a drag strip from this user and the car isn't marked in any way to say whos it is, so you don't know what it runs. And no, it did not run a 13.5 lol. I'm around drag racing enough to know what a 13.5 looks like. This car looks like a high 14 @ 95 mph car. If you knew what it ran you wouldn't say 13.5 @ 101-102, you'd say 13.57 @ 101.63.

Wow your a d-bag. A GTP will run a 14.8 @ 95 stock at Lebanon valley in the winter with a -(negative)1500 ft DA. Try racing one here in Phoenix, AZ. I knew a kid with a stock GTP and I raced him when my Mustang ran high 14s @ 95 and from 60 to 80 mph I pulled three cars on him like nothing. Talk all the internet trash you want, I consistently see stock GTPs run mid-high 15s @ 90 mph here, sorry. And i'm not standing up so i'm not sure why you told me to sit down.... Done talking to you.

Only place I race is Speedworld out at Happy Valley and Grand. I'm gonna try to make it out tomorrow night (saturday) for the street drags. 6 - midnight, $20 car and driver, $10 spectator. Was there last saturday night and it was dead. I got there after 8, spent at least 1 and 1/2 hours watching and still made 13 passes before leaving at 11:15. It's a fun track. You should come on out tomorrow.

They probably weren't anymore modded than this GTP in the vid. Rockers, pulley, pcm, p-log, intake. That's plenty of mods for mid 13's. There's also a BIG difference between a low 15 and a high 15. My GTP is probably more mooded than your stang anyway. It's only getting faster too.

Probly is. I have bills to pay. My Stang only has a carburetor, $75 pair of shorty headers, $100 cam, and $250 2.25" dual exhaust with no "H" or "X" pipe. It has the shittiest manual transmission ever made with the worst third gear ratio (1:1) ever, and it has stock 3.27 gears in the rear, so i'm happy with 14.40s on street tires (2.2 - 2.3 60 ft times) and 13.90s on slicks. Also happy with the EPA 18/28 mpg rating and the leather interior, power everything, etc.

Yea I fixed it a long time ago. It sat for too long and it needed a rebuild. I tore it down, cleaned it, honed the cylinder bores, new pistons, rings, bearings, valve seals, gaskets. Runs great now. My third gear is 1:1 which kills my 1/4 mile ET and trap speed but my 1/8th mile times are decent. It's got a carb, cam, and shorty headers. Stock bottom end, stock heads, stock pullies, stock gears, full interior, a/c, smog pump, power everything. 9.27 @ 76.01 mph on street tires, 2.21 60 ft.

Point-in-case about my third gear, when I hit 5500 rpm in second at 70 mph, I shift to third and it goes down to 3200 rpm and goes till 130 mph. From a 9.27 @ 76.01 mph, I went on to a 14.45 @ 95 mph. I should be going thru the traps at 98-99 mph, and I would be with a T5 but the third gear in my srod 4 speed kills my acceleration between 70 and 90 mph.

I don't think I can change the ratios. The typical thing to do when you get a '79 - early '83 Mustang is to swap the Srod out for a T5. They bolt right in as far as I know. I just haven't gathered $300 to buy a used T5 yet. I'm planning on doing it over the summer or fall. For now the Srod works good enough to get where I need to go but i'm definitely getting rid of it as soon as I gather the cash.

i know man T5 is expensive as hell my friend got one used from a saleen 89 in the bay area for 600 bucks, but yeah when you do that should make a big difference maybe with a profromance clutch to mach that would be nice i was baout to get one like yours GLX its too was a 4spd and red good shape 8/10 for 900 buck if i wasn't in school right now and didn't already have my maxima i would have got it nut hay thats life ahha

Yea I will probably just stick with the clutch I have now. It's the 130 dollar Checker Auto special. Nothing fancy at all. Basically a stock replacement and it grabs hard, doesn't slip even after getting really hot, and is strong. I've put about 50 1/4 mile passes on it and beat the crap out of it every day on the road and it still works like new.

Yea it's easy to go through a couple rear ends if the rear end is either too small for the application or not set up correctly. I have a brand new 8.8" in the Mustang, paid an arm and a leg for it but I won't have to worry about it.

@gtdrummerdude I'm in Tucson and I run 14.7 consistantly. I'm now modded, but have never taken it to the track since modding it. I beat mustangs like nothing all the way up to '08 when they changed the gears to squeeze all they could out of those OHC pieces of junk.

@TiKondaRoga Last time out at Speedworld I was with a guy with a late '90s GTP, all stock. We were trying to get every last bit of performance we could out of it and ended up with a best of 15.1 @ 93 mph on a solid run with little wheelspin. I was in the car that run and I weigh 200 lbs so I guess I could see 14.7 at best with good launches etc. They are quick but you shouldn't be beating Mustangs "like nothing" and you know it.

@gtdrummerdude '99 - '04 GTs tend to run 14.5 @ 96mph here. I can't imagine a 14.7 car walking all over a 14.5 car. You probably raced SN95 turds, and the '08 GTs aren't trying. My 1982 emissions crisis 5.0 with nothing more than a mild cam and shorty headers ran 14.40s @ 96 mph with crappy 2.2 60 foot times. I can barely hold up with a stock '05 + GT, same with '99 - '04 GT 5 speeds. There is no way you are beating me and these other Mustangs "like nothing" with a 14.7 1/4 mile.

There's way no way the Mustang was full throttle. He dropped off really bad from the start. Had to have been a horrible driver. It took the GTP exactly 13.5 seconds to hit 90 mph. My old-ass 5.0 that runs mid 14s in the 1/4 hits 90 mph in 12.5 - 13 seconds and i've been beaten from a highway roll by a 2004 GT 5 speed with exhaust and maybe some other mods, not sure.

It's not that hard to make a GTP run fast. All you need is a smaller pulley, chip, and better fuel delivery and you are in the low 13. If you go to zzperf. there are dozen of GTP running in the 11 and 10.

some of you honestly don't know anything, 97 gtp's can do 0-60 somewhere around 6.6s, 03 mustang gt with an automatic tranny can do it in about 6.3s, and about 5.9s for the manual, but by the time the automatic version reaches the quarter mile, it's slower or the same as the stock gtp. these are the official recorded specs by proffesional drivers. i don't get why people are so shocked that mustang gt's can lose to a gtp.

Yeah ok, a gtp started on fire down the street from my house and did 3 mil. worth of damage this week! my friend that i work w/ has a 00 gtp i have a 01 gt with exaust and intake and auto and i EAT HIM Also i have a gtech my 0-60 best 5.14 Gtp tranny can not handle 1 horse more than 240 w/out blowing up and my buddy has spent $8000 on repairs in the last year! my gt has 135,000 miles 98,000 by me and HAS NEVER BROKE! GO TAKE YOUR JUNK TO THE JUNKYARD!!!!!!!!

I love my 00GTP .....but Im a lover of any fast car. Ive driven my uncle 02 Stang GT, and though it did have power, its dont have that kick that the S/C has in my GTP
