  • which vintage moderns are those?

  • @AounHamidMusic just the vintage modern 2466 heads.

  • if u tell me the name of the song at the end i will sub to ur channel

  • @DFMerlino It's Just Sixteen by Velvet Revolver off their Libertad album. No need to sub to my channel.

  • guys whats the background song?

  • questions:

Do heads have an output? or does the sound purely come from cabinets?

when you buy an afd100, do you only get the head or do they give you a cabinet also?

  • @TOM71292 if you di the head it will probably sound like shit, so you need a cab. :), and no, if you buy a head it wont come with cabinet.

  • this video is nice but it's old if you want to see his current setup check out this gibson site... pretty recent...--->

    gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/Slash-Tone-Secrets-810/

  • What is the brand name of the thin straps slash uses

  • @thejoshcarden i wanna say the company is called red monkey..... they're awfully expensive like $200-+ for a strap...fyi

  • @thejoshcarden I found the same straps for ten bucks with free shipping on ebay there's "lm" and "Levys"

  • I was going to complain that they didn't go through all his guitars but then I realized that it would of been... "and here is a les paul, and here is a les paul, and here is a les paul..." hahaha

  • jesus!.... the music in the background!

  • But I want to see the rig not your faces...!

  • Anyone else confused with that wireless thing?

  • USE NORMAL COLORS!!! WE AREN'T HERE TO SEE SPECIAL EFFECTS WE ARE HERE TO SEE GUITARS!!!

  • @MyD212 thank you gibson does such beauiful guitars i want to see them! also show all the guitars i dont care if it takes 3 parts im interested

  • @MyD212 If you're a real guitarist you're more concerned with the specs than the pretty colors.

  • @DukeStarbuckle yeah, i didn't notice until they started complaining

  • why cant you guys use normal colors?

  • shame adam day isnt slash tech anymore

  • wow I forgot how it sounds.....my silver 87 2555

when I blew a tube in mine, I simply put it back in the shipping box, mine came direct from Marshall Amplification plc Denbigh Road, Bletchley, Milton Keynes UK., it's still 1988 fresh, I need to find a GOOD tech to re-tube & bias it ...Adam????

  • wow I forgot how it sounds.....

  • He uses Ernie Ball Strings, 11 - 46... Slash uses these string because he break stings easily, like me...

  • I had to stop watching this after about 2 minutes.. the lipsmacking is really REALLY irritating.

  • isn't Adam also Neal Schon's tech?

  • @MichaelD8393 Adam isn't slash's tech anymore.

  • @HarryAndAGuitar oh really? i never knew that til now.

  • I hate this color they put on the lenses or something like that

  • whats the song in the background?

  • 6:03 - Adam thinking "Can I get back to work now?"

  • 4:04 What is the ''100W driver'' that Adam Day said? is it the Talk Box..the amp head or the amp cabinet? i want to get one but i'm worried about blowing my amp or not being able to use it..

  • @slashthebestone ,,,, the speaker in the talk box is the driver they are referring to.. its not a speaker per se its a driver from a high frequency horn that is channelled through the tube and resonates in your mouth which the mic then sends that resonated sound to a amp to be amplified... the jubilee is 100 watt and the heil used to be 50 watt driver so it was too much , now as Adam mentioned they are 100 watt drivers so sit well with the amp.

  • @brickford27 Thanks A LOT man! really! so i can buy this Dunlop Heil Talk Box..i just need to have an amp head and 2 amp cabinets..one for the Talk Box and the other for the rest of my other pedals..right? will this work with my Marshall MG 30 and my Peavey 15 Watt?

  • @slashthebestone its a funny sort of set up to use a real heil talk box and its not a cheap effect to have as it requires more than just the talk box itself , if i remember correctly it plugs between your amp and speaker cab and when you step on it it cuts the speaker cab off. Resonation is sent through the tube which will resonate in your mouth but you must be standing in front of the mic as its the mics job to amplified the resonated sounds , so really you need a seperate rig (continued>>>)

  • (continued) So really you need a seperate rig which constist of a mic stand and a good mic and a amplifier for just the mic which is where the effect will come from.

you may find that this is a lot of work to find you may not even like the effect so if you have a Peavey 15 watt set it ultra clean as possible and put a mic in to the input. put the heil box between your MG head and cab

start slow and low volume and just experiment , if you find you like the heil box then you upgrade your gear

  • @brickford27 Man thanks A LOT again! do you have a Talk Box? But how can i put the Talk Box between my MG 30 and the cab? my MG 30 is a solid state amp combo! its not a tube head you know? so the Talk Box won't work right? It needs an amp head..an amp cabinet and a mic with an amp for it, right?

  • @slashthebestone I had a heil talk box about seven years ago and it was a old school one too , i found whilst the effect was good it was an effect that could be over used and also its a skill to play one in its own right, trying to make the sweep sounds by altering the tube end whilst in your mouth and using your mouth to get different resonate or muted-ish sound is no easy trick. Need alot of mouth wash to keep tube end clean etc

  • @slashthebestone i didnt think you had the combo , thought you might of had the head , its not going to work with the combo version and it doesnt matter if its solid state or valves, the talk box will work with both. Yeah the basic set up you describe is the basic rig needed to effectively use a talk box. Amp head >talk box>cab & mic > clean amp

  • @brickford27 NOW i get it man! thanks! now i know i can't buy one hahaha at least not for now =) wow! old school stuff are the best! yea..i never used one..but i can imagine its not going to be easy! But it does sound awasome and it can be used to a lot things..not only leads..you can do a cool rhythm part with the Talk Box too =) cheers mate!

  • @slashthebestone .. i am not sure what is ment by "other for the rest of my other pedals" you should be able to run your "in front of amp pedals such as distortion/ tube screamers or compressors etc thru your MG and other modulated pedals like choruses flangers thru the amps effect loop if it has one? the heil talk box will go between the amp speaker out to cab.

  • i know, thats what i said, the 59 replica by derrig.........its kinda funny if you think about, gibson is copying a copy of a Gibson....lol....

  • I wish he would stop smacking his lips!!!

  • Am I the only one who says "pih-EH-so" not "PIE-zo"???

Also, I will sheepishly admit, I have NO idea how a talkbox works:/

  • @yobhsiFehT that makes two of us hahahahaha

  • @yobhsiFehT i say pih-eh-so pie-zo sound dumb

  • this presenter is a bit up himself

  • I want Slash gear...SWEET!!

  • 1:40 That Double neck is killer, I've seen Steve Vai use those too.

  • Adam loved that dude didn't he? Great stuff.

  • Slash rocks

  • whats the name of the song in the beginning?

  • velvet revolver for a brother

  • i wish that dud would stop smacking his lips, it s creapin me out

  • would a Gibson Custom Goldtop Historic 1957 Les Paul be good for his sound?

  • Yes. He tried one wiht EMGs and said they created a tone that was too dominating.

  • @xsvmaster Can u give more info on this - why are EMG's shit for Slash tone?

  • @Alu122112211221

yeah, he playin one too i thought ?

  • He played a 1959 on the album, i just don't know if a 1957 can replicate his sound just as well.

  • @Alu122112211221 thats true but whats with the goldtop from the live gig in 1992 in tokyo ? someone told me it was a 54 Goldtop but i think its a 57 darkback ?

  • I dont know i've never seen slash with that guitar, i don't think i've seen him with those pick ups either. I don't know much about slash, but from his past and current guitars, i think a '57 dark back would suit him better.

  • @Alu122112211221 take a look at this ;)

    watch?v=X9Ab6TRRpkQ

mybe you know what that type of guitar it is :)

  • My guess would be a '57 dark back, i don't know for sure tho. Btw, do you know what amp could get his sound on that video you sent me?

  • cant be a 54, unless modded, the 54 comes with p-90 single coils.

  • @GibsonLesPaul1319 yeah i know.

someone on a musicforum told me that, because i ask what goldtop modell slash uses on this live gig and he told me that this goldtop is a 54er les paul goldtop with humbuckers (the openings were frased or something)

  • on appetite? he played a 59 replica by derrig thats whats gibson is bringing out on the 16th

  • @GibsonLesPaul1319 this new signature guitar ?

  • @Aoloso The new signature gibson is based on a gibson 59 handmade by chris derrig. The original was a handmade imitation gibson.

It is being released by slash at NAMM on jan 16th as well as new seymour pups and a new amp.

  • @GibsonLesPaul1319 hell yeah ^^

but "fuck" i brought a new amp 1 month ago :D ah there will be 2 models of the guitar released right ? one epiphone and one gibson i thought am i right ?

  • @Aoloso I have no idea. I am just going based on what Slash twittered.

For the last two sig guitars however, the tobacco sunburst and the goldtop, they were epiphone versions, but the sig of his 88 LP standard, there was no epiphone version.

  • @GibsonLesPaul1319 yeah thats true.

  • yes, it is

  • @GibsonLesPaul1319 It was a guitar made by Messer guitar company...read Slashs book, thats exactly what he said.

  • @GibsonLesPaul1319 it wasnt even a gibson, it was a copy. THats what pissed me off when Gibson built the appitite signature. Its basically a trans amber les paul with seymour duncan pickups. Slap a 10k price tag on it and call it a slash signature. PFFT.

  • how do slash switches from clean to drtty?

  • He has an A/B/Y switch that Adam Day operates behind the scenes, along with all of Slash's other pedals, except for the expression-based pedals like his wah and talkbox.

  • @GuitarManMilaneus Can u explain more on this please -

    1. what is an A/B/Y switch?

    2. what does it mean that the tech is controlling the pedals?

    3. is this normal for pro players?

    Thanks.

  • @DocBrewster An A/B/Y is a pedal that switches the output of the guitar, so that he can use more than one different head during a song. Regarding his pedals, apart from the wah and talkbox, the tech turns them on and off and adjusts settings when needed backstage. This is a fairly standard practice for professional guitarists.

  • @GuitarManMilaneus so is it fair to say its easier to be a pro player than an amateur cos the guitar tech does everything except play the guitar?

  • @DocBrewster It depends on which way you look at it, haha. Often the professionals don't have to worry about pedals, so their performance might benefit from that.

  • @GuitarManMilaneus Maybe its like motorsport (which i understand a lot better) - in that you could say Formula 1 is easier than Formula 4 cos the cars are better (analogous to better guitars with perfect action and pickups and better amp tone etc) and the drivers dont even have to change gears anymore like they used to in their formative days in F4(analogous to guitarists having pedals controlled by a tech guy)- but on the other hand- the F1 drivers are those who could do all that in F4 anyway!

  • In other words - sure in some ways it becomes easier as they become pro - but its the guys who were the best amateurs anyway - so its really just taking over the "housekeeping chores" to free them up to do what they do best.

Having said that - in both fields its kind of more satisfying to see the best of the best doing it all themselves.

  • @DocBrewster Exactly, man. I couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Comment removed

  • @GuitarManMilaneus thanks man - glad my analogy wasnt too convoluted :)

  • @PaTtAmS His tech does that for him backstage

  • i thought it was pee-ets-o

  • What type and gague of strings does slash use :S?

  • he uses Ernie Ball 2242 Power Slinky RPS 11 Electric Guitar Strings

  • but i've heard that on his les pauls he uses ernie ball slinky r.p.s 11-48 gauge.

  • its true those r the exact strings he uses

  • @chubz110 he uses a hybrid complects- 0,11 to 0,46

  • @littlewing62 yea he uses both. the 11-48 slinky and the R.P.S 11-48 Slinky

  • @littlewing62

this is true! I have strung them myself. ;)

  • @crossmyass how do they feel? how's his action set up?

  • @littlewing62

they feel great! I prefer heavy bottoms though...

the les paul he had with him was the single best playing, lowest action one I have ever played that's for sure! it was not a "slash" model though, just a 10 top cherry sunburst standard.

  • @crossmyass oh wow that must have been a real treat to play.. i've never seen him with that one tho, mabe its on his personal collection knowing that he has tons of pauls..

  • @littlewing62 Yes, onf AFD he was still using 10's

  • @littlewing62 Think he said 11-46 in an interview i saw

  • @littlewing62 I am sure he uses a custom gauge 11-46

  • @littlewing62 no,he uses ernie ball custom gauge 11-46.

  • @littlewing62 he uses custom gauge of 11-46

  • is adam day still his tech? cos i seen a video with adam doing someone elses guitar rig

  • yea me too, but i think he is both because remeber now slash is in the studio on his solo album so i guess adam has more time...

  • yeah, cant wait to hear the new album, it was neil schon that i seen adam with, thats what made me think

  • what video was that? Thank you

  • type in neil schons rig on you tube and i think there is a vid of him and adam on it no dissrispect to slash fans cos i like slash's music

  • he also is a tech for doug aldrich, i guess. everyone says he is a good one.

  • nope.. sorry but Adam wasn't Doug tech.. McBob used to be Doug's tech on the latest tour and Whitesnake were supporters for Judas Priest

  • Adam Day is "the" tech lol, he techs for many people including slash, he kind of switches back and forth. When one will be in the studio, he will be out on tour with another performer. I went to a journey show during the summer, (Adam is Neal Schon's tech) and i got to meet him after the show, he is awesome

  • ahh right, was a bit worried than, thanks for the info

  • CUSTOM CUSTOM CUSTOM!

  • Did/Does Slash use a noise gate? Just wondering in case anyone knew. THANKS!!!

  • yes of course... look in his rack :)

  • witch one?

  • Is that used in the Studio too? I didn't think pro guitarists use noise gates in studio and live.

  • contact me if you want... or go on Slash's forum where I posted his old and recent rig... there's a beautiful Marshall italian forum where I posted everything from Slash to Zakk Wylde. Cheers guys :)

  • he doesnt use the USA slash signature? the black and yellow one?

and the slash prototype aint for sale right?

  • of course not, he wouldnt sel his own guitar.!!

  • It's the prototype for the signature, and of course he isn't gonna sell his guitar. The finish isn't black and yellow either, there genius, it's tobacco burst, which is brown and "yellow" if that's what you'd call it.

  • Hey not long ago they had a slash prototype on ebay not long ago...

  • if u want a classic example of the 800 tone he got, listen to the guitar solo on the song You Could Be Mine

  • So, on UYI 1 and 2, he used a JCM 800. He has a real good tone. he only used a 800, right? On AFD, did he also use a JCM 800? I heard it was a 1959T but a JCM 800 also. I heard he used a JCM 800 on every album. I think he had a better tone in GN'R than in VR. What do you think is a better tone: AFD OR UYI? I kinda like UYI more, but I love AFD.

  • They both had awesome tones, its the music in AFD that makes the tone more raw (the 1959T is why), Paradise City the last rhythm section after the drum break is sick

  • AFD period: BC Rich guitars, Jackson guitars, Gibson Flying V, Firebird copy, Chris Derrig 1959 copy, Max Baranet 1959 copy + Marshall Plexi 1959T modded by Tim Caswell and an old Marshall 4x12 with G12H30 (now Duff's property of it and still using with Loaded)

UYI period: various guitars + hotrodded Marshall JCM800 modded by Frank Levi with 6550 + 2 Marshall 4x12 cabs loaded with greenbacks and an attenuator (see on Hey Stoopid video)

  • GN'R Lies period: BC Rich guitars (Mockingbird, Walrocks etc.), Jackson guitars (soloist, one of them is black & white), Gibson Les Paul for rhythm parts (Steve Hunter of Alice Cooper was original owner) but had lots, lots, lots of problems with tunning.. + a rental Marshall JMP stock and various BOSS and MXR pedals

Spghetti Incident period: lots of guitars like Gibson vintage and replicas, Fender, Zemaitis etc + Marshall JC800 and same stuff used for UYI + Jubillee heads for clean parts.

  • I read that the only mod that Slash did to the JCM 800 was put in 6550 tubes. I'm 99% sure he didn't hot rod it. If you have a page that says he did, that would help a lot. THANK YOU! :D Also, I thought Jubilees were used after GNR?

  • wow u lot are like fuckin babys! who cares what tubes he uses! he has fat sound and thts that u could put him through an orange amp hed sound the same! same with any amp and any tubes

  • In the past, the amps "Used to be screaming" but during the recording of the Use Your Illusion albums, Slash switched to an old JCM 800 with 65/50 output tubes and set the preamp on 2, the master output on 8, and linked this to a Marshall 100-watt cab. The result was essentially all output distortion and output gain. This was a different sound that what was normally associated with the guitarist and subsequently, the Slash model was added during the Snakepit era.(adam day interview read!!!!)

  • In the GnR days adam would change the channels for him so slash was free to run around , the only pedal he would have on the stage was a wah in them days.

  • I'm not sure if Adam covered this in the interview and if I missed it, but does anyone know how Slash changes from clean to distortion mid-song live? In older performances, it almost looks like he either uses the toggle on the guitar, a switch in behind the back of the guitar or Adam phyiscally changes it backstage. Anyone know for sure?

  • he uses his ground control pro to switch.

  • For the 'dirty' sound does he use all of those heads at the same time? (same for the 'clean' heads?)

  • UYI albums were actually with a jubilee for leads, and jcm 800 for rhythm.

  • Dude honestly shut the fuck up!

He didn't use the Jubilee for Use Your Illusions. Post your source or shut up. He never used the Jubilee/Slash sig till "You Got No Right" on VR's debut album Contraband.

  • He used the Jubilees for his live sound since 1988 and only in the studio from 2003-present with Velvet Revolver.

Every Slash record features a JCM 800 blended with another amp, except on USe Your Illusions which featured ONLY a JCM 800 soley!. "Source.... Adam Day Himself!".

  • Well, arent you a little prick. Must be a little bipolar dickhead, arent ya? All that over a response of what amp slash used LOL. get a life, loser.

  • Pugachev you are the dumbest piece of shit ever.

He only used the Jubilee Live during his Guns N Roses years and anyone who says different doesn't know a damn thing.

Listen to Use Your Illusions thats all JCM 800 breaking into output.

I'll believe Adam Day the guy who set Slash's sound up before some stupid cock suckin' prick named Pugachev on the internet anyday.

  • Comment removed

  • I dare anyone to do a google search for Information DIRECT from Adam Day or Mike Clink that says Slash used a Jubilee on the Use Your Illusion Albums.

You WONT FIND IT. Read Slash's book he talks about the amps he used all though the Appetite Years are fuzzy for him the UYI years up he knows exactly what he used., also this information is backed by his Guitar tech Adam Day.

If you believe anyone other than Adam Day then you can fuck off you ignorant bastard Pugachev.

  • are the dunlop rack wah's wireless?

  • THEY aren't but he probably has them hooked up to a wireless.

  • Great Video. Thanks

  • The sound on "Don't Damn Me" is what started my quest for Distortion in my playing. I was suprised that it was as simple as a 2203 head jcm 800 and a single 4x12 cab.

  • since the distortion is coming from the output tubes rather than the preamp tubes, would EL34's still get a good UYI even though slash used 6550's?

  • i have EL34's in my 2203x, i've never tried the 6550s so i can't really tell you. What i can tell you is that you absolutely CAN get any good GNR Slash tone with an 800, it just takes some EQ tweaking (it will never sound exactly the same but it gets very similar). The Slash signature amp is a modified Silver Jube, which is a modified JCM800.

  • Flipsy87, other than using 4 EL-34's and 3 12 AX7 Pre Amp tubes the Jubilee and JCM 800 have nothing in common. With that Logic a DSL-100 is close too eh? NOPE!

Besides were you pretty much deaf when Adam said himself that the Jubilee wasn't a moddified 800? lol

  • lol the Slash JCM is a SILVER JUBILEE if you buy a slash sig amp or a jubilee its the SAME thing not a TINY difference.

  • lol the Slash JCM is a SILVER JUBILEE if you buy a slash sig amp or a jubilee its the SAME thing not a TINY difference.

  • wtf where the fuck did yyou see slash using 6550 power tubes..."?"? he ALWAYS used El34s

  • I'm not sure, but i think he used 6550s his whole career until they made the JCM Slash, which featured EL34s. I can guarantee he used a JCM 800 with 6550 output tubes when making UYI. Other than using EL34s, nowadays he also uses KT66s in the new Vintage Modern (as you can see in this video)

  • yeah look the cmnt i left under ttok it of adam day interview for Use your Illusion it was A JCM 800 with 65/50 output tubes. He would set master volume at 8 and pre-amp at 2 it gave a different sound than pre-amp 8 and master 2

  • No, thats not correct. Slash uses 6550 tubes on a modded JCM 800 he uses on all his rythm work, this is the same amp he used from UYI to the present. Trust me, Im an expert on this subject.

  • Wait. So On UYI albums, he used JCM 800? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

  • no. correct me if i'm wrong but he used a silver jubilee.

  • I've heard Day say on many occasions that it was a JCM 800. I know on every album Slash used a JCM 800, including AFD. It wasn't the main amp, but it was used.

  • I wouldn't be surprised about the 800, but I know when he went on tour he had some Jubes.

  • He recorded with the 800 but he toured with the Jub.

  • he didnt use the jube at all for AFD and the tour because is wasnt available at the time, he instead used a modded amp that he had hired from a company and claimed it was stolen so he could use it (his roadie fucked up and it was eventually returned) George Lynch also used this amp and had some his own amps modified....THIS MOD IS STILL AVAILABLE TODAY FROM THE SAME PERSON WHO DID IT FOR S.I.R

  • Some ppl say he used the JUB for UYI, not AFD. I heard the JCM 800 was on UYI 1/2 and jub was for live shows.

  • nah he didnt use the jub on any recordings, UYI was almost completely an 800

  • Maybe I worded wrong. I'm sorry. I heard an 800 was used for recording and the jub for live shows. I think so, but not 100 percent sure.

  • ur right

  • Dispite Popular belief the Use Your Illusion Amp was not modded, just a plain old JCM 800 with screaming volume.

  • thanks! i knew he used the MV control rather than the Preamp control to get his gain, but how did you find out about the EQ and other stuff?

Also, would an attenuator help get the output distortion from UYI, or would it lose too much tone at reasonable volumes volumes?

  • I got the tone settings from an Adam Day Interview that was on "belowempty. com" the previously official fan page of Velvet Revolver. Adam comments how slash uses more pre amp nowdays to get his gain and that in the UYI era he used to turn his amps up to 8 on the volume and the settings I mentioned :)

  • absolutely NO, attenuators fuck with your amp's tone, it's only use is to keep your amp at room level without getting that grainy low output tone you find in these high output amps.

  • Dude, you are totally wrong, the jcm 800 is modded, it was called the SIR stock 34 and it was modded by the famous Frank Levi. Not to be confused with the SIR stock 36 and 39 amps which where modded plexis. Trust me, I know Frank Levi, I know most of the guys that have worked on Slash's gear. Its because of people like you that continue to spread misinformation; that the internet has become unreliable for accurate information.

  • Wow am I wrong Slashsound? where did you get your incorrect information from?

Adam Day says himself that it is a Stock JCM 800 with 6550 output tubes. So I am putting stock in Adam Day the guy who set the rig up in the studio over YOU, who has information totally taken out of thin air.
