  • When I first saw Paris, Texas I was amazed by the performance of Harry Dean Stanton as Travis. And also by the haunting guitar playing of Ry Cooder. My favorite movie and my absolute favorite piece of music played brilliantly by you. This is the piece I will have played at my funeral.

  • What a superb rendition of a superb song , well done

  • @cybythesea Hi, thanks for your comment :) The tuning is DADF#AD

  • NICE work

  • This is the track that got me into playing slide. A genius of minamalism. You have a great feel for slide, count me amongst your new subscribers.

  • that was fantastic! I'm trying to learn some cooder style stuff at the moment and was just wondering you don't seem to mute/damp very much? or at least not that I can spot how do you do it?

  • @MRSOUL Hi, thanks for your comments. I don't damp the string behind the slide as I use the blues technique which rarely damp the strings. Jacques

  • it's so good

  • great composition, wonderfully played....

  • This is the best cover of this song on youtube.

  • Mesmerizing, chilling! I saw the movie so many years ago in an old movie theater in my town. The sounds still resonate in my memory. Love the performance. Jaques is the new guitar hero!

  • c'est vraiment super sympa!!!!!!! merci . (rudy.berneau@live.fr)

  • Hi Jacques, How do you amplify your resonator without losing the sound quality? Is there a pickup or a microphone that works well? I have a pick up on mine, but I lose a lot of the raspy quality of the cone. I appreciate the help. Thanks.

  • @EngineeringSafety Hi, I use a Fishman dobro Pickup and I run it into a Fishman Aura pedal that's the setup I used on that recording. All the best Jacques

  • Vraiment vibrant ... Lancinante musique que vous maitrisez et interpretez à la perfection ; Touchée en plein spleen !

  • Excellent!!!!!!

  • Great performance!!!

    Jacques

  • Fabulous version of a fabulously moving deep song. First time a YouTube video has prompted me to comment. I am a fan! Your web site is great and thanks for sharing your music and tabs.

  • @MrGuyPhil

This brings back the forgotten art of intonation to the fore. Bravo Mr. Stotzem!

  • This is not Ry Cooder !, somebody tries to make me a fool...

  • impressive

  • So good !!! I am going to learn this one watching your video.

Thanks . You are truly gifted.

  • Jacques, regarding "simplethunder"'s comment? Pay no attention. You nailed it, mate. Perfect. I can't stop listening to your version. How can I get a copy?Best regards, John.

  • @janekliner I can send you the tab but I need your email address. All the best Jacques

  • DESERT MUSIC

  • @CyTheP Tuning is DADF#AD

  • Very good version!! As good as the original. Excellent sound!!

  • from witch bottle is your bottleneck ? :)))

  • Amazing, hyponotic. I became a fan of you. GF

  • muy bueno !! ;)

  • Amazing job man, but may I whine about one thing? I'm not sure if it's possible, but you should try to get your tone a little bit softer, if you know what I mean!

  • iedere keer weer de kriebels... wat een megagoed nummer is dit.

    En absoluut pefect gespeeld!

    Bravo Mr Stotzem!

Gives me chills, this song, every time.

    And played pefectly!

  • Absolutely mindblowing performance!

  • what type of guitar is that? Blues Guitar?

  • @SportingUltras My guitar is a Dobro

  • @JStotzem ty very much

  • @SportingUltras - The style of playing is called 'slide guitar blues' or 'bottleneck blues'. Its a Dobro resonator guitar, but now I see your question is already answered below, haha! I'l post anyway just incase 'a little' extra info helps.

  • thank you l'ami!

  • Like great Hendrix songs, bring tears to my soul.Utterly fantastic.

  • Like a great Hendrix song bring tears to my soul.

  • Makes me cry ;')

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Just curious about one thing though, what are you wearing on your right hand fingers??

  • @nomaniac I wear fingerpicks on Thumb, Index and middle finger (Plastic fingerpicks)

  • American music. The best.

  • @miamad LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Let me chime in in the choir: absolutely marvelous! And that tone is really impressive, clear and clean with a perfect vibrato. Cheers to you, sir!.

  • Tout simplement magnifique !!!!!

    §;-)

  • Quasiment meilleur que l'original !!!... Merci !

  • a truly great performance

  • I gotta get a slider!

  • Wow, this dobro and slide thing is really inspiring... Flawless playing my man!

  • As soon as I heard you start I knew this was going to be good. Quite drifted off into my own little world....You've obviously been playing for a long time mate. Very well done. Them thar resonators dont take too kindly to being played badly, pick up every scratch and sharp/flat notes etc. 10/10.

  • Thank you, for this very nice playing. I learn playing the open tunings right now after playing guitar for 20 years. You helped me a lot to get the right feeling for this.

  • Is amazing! That's a spider right? Are you recording through the pickup on top of your strings? Please explain that device and how you made such a lovely recording. Thank!

  • @medamation Hi, thanks for your comment and it's a spider in my dobro. A fishman Dobro pickup under the spider and I run the signal into a Fishman Aura pedal.

there is no mic, just the line out of the guitar, great to record outside !

    Jacques

  • Your slide technique is excellent but the tone you are acheiving

  • Which tunning is this sir?

  • @caralhosvosfodam Hi, the tuning is DADF#AD

  • Lovely!

  • Pure Magic and the guitar is a visual work of art too!

  • GREAT!!!!

  • I may only wish that I would play as good as you!

  • Awesome. A lot of skill and a whole lot of feeling. I've bookmarked this so I can hear it again. Very moving.

    Kurt

    Wich guitar do you play?

    it is with an ampli?

    lovely play.

    Thanks from Spain.

  • @karlitos1000

Thanks for your comments ! I play a dobro guitar, this is not an amp, the middle piece is a resonator.

    All the best,

    Jacques

  • Breathtakingly BEAUTYFUL !!!

    LIKE VERY MUCH ;-)))

    Kurt

  • Epic WIN! Thub m up!

  • You do a stunning version of this... one of my fave soundtracks from one of my fave films... I'm sending you an email for the tabs if thats ok...

    Thanks.

  • Jacques. I had to listen to this about half a dozen times. I could'nt believe how well you played this! Fantastic.

  • He plays in staggered or crooked time which is a folk-blues trademark. No missing pause there.

  • Amazing. If i give you my email can i also have the tab of this? I cant die happy if i never play this song as well as you are, and unfortunately im not good enough to play by ear yet.

  • @squeebor Hi, yes if you send me your email address, I will forward you the tab

    All the best,

    jacques

  • @JStotzem Excellent, thanks a million! Might take me a while to be able to play it this well but a man can dream.

  • @librathene twat.

  • you play a great slide. lovely resonator by the way :)

  • great job man!

  • in the main theme you miss a pause of half a second, still great playing! great movie by the way.

  • @WizardofFuzz ...o not half a second,jesus noo,u wanker,take a swandive into a woodchipper you tit..

  • Excellent rendition

  • great !

  • The soundtrack for this movie really sparked my interest in work involving slide guitar, and you do a great rendition of it. Do you have any suggestions for more music that sounds like this? I don't really know what the genre is called, so it's a little tough for me to find like-sounding music.

  • @ndschroede23 The style is based on the blues, so I suggest you to listen to Blind Willie Johnson, to a piece called dark was the night or other pieces of Blind Willie Johnson.

  • pawel_1974@interia pl

  • just brilliant.... tab please..

  • email please !

  • Perfection!

  • Simply brilliant.

  • sweeeeeet,

  • BRÜTAL

  • what a musician

  • Jacques!! Absolutely masterful job. A favorite movie with Cooder's soulful wailing on acoustic slide steel guitar. Merci!!

  • i love this song :. (

  • hi man...

    this is a fucknhells....

    perfect performance....

    tanks for sharing

  • Bravo encore.

Jacques

  • makes me want to cry. love it. this and steamboat gwine round da bend by john fahey (no caps sorry - got my guitar in my left hand).

  • Breathtaking. One of my favourite movies and themes, long time ago, you made it come alive again. Excellent work and a big thanks.

  • nice playing mate, if I can say just say one thing about your excellent playing is! that it is just that little bit rushed in comparison to the original but! that just maybe how you felt the day you recorded it, top job though and a great track played well.

  • Man, this is fantastic....!! Just fantastic... Best regards from Zagreb, Croatia...

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks, I play it in DADF#AD

    Jacques

  • That was really good although the website text kind of spoils it. Somewhere I've got an earlier Ry Cooder album which has a track on it (Dark End Of The Street rings a bell) which sounds very similsr to the Paris Texas theme.

  • @buskerbuoy Think you mean dark was the night cold was the ground, a great track by blind willie johnson, very similar to this.

  • what a pleasure!!!! Thats blues man !!

    Anytime you like ........congratulations!!
