This cartoon is old anough and based on old impressions of italian cinema, such like Cinema Paradiso, Noti de Caberia, la Strada and others. Nobody was going ofend italians, on contrary, we (in USSR) where charmed by nature italian soul.

Ehi, aren't Italians supposed to have a lot of self humour... I'm Italian and I find this video very funny! I pity my poor compatriots who get so easily offended. Looks like the sense of ridicolous is lost for the average Italian (as is for the prime minister, which is not quite average...) :)

this is absolutely real. this is how the power has always exerted its control over italy. power intended as possessiveness and dominance through corruption. this is a kind of lifestyle between both politics and common people. But of course there's another part of Italians which is the opposite, which is deliciuos and lovable, which is ashamed by the firsts, which when it looks at a real gem like this dies laughing. i love this cartoon! i'm italian and i died laughing :)

mario e lucia sono chiaramente copiati da marcello mastroianni e sofia loren in "ieri, oggi e domani" di vittorio de sica (oscar 1965); il regista ha usato l'episodio dove i personaggi somigliano di più agli stereotipi stranieri sull'italia, ma gamburg (come de sica) sa che sta giocando, e che è tutto uno scherzo, anche se con un fondo di verità (come tanta commedia all'italana degli anni '60)
