  • Great video, I'm new to zbrush but this is very helpful.

  • @joesparto81 : you're welcome:)

  • lets talk about glitching :D ... BTW nice little tutor U have

  • @Michal4601 thanks man!

  • Hi, thank you very much for this tutorial! I have a question though, is it possible to apply this noise only to a polygroup instead of the entire chosen subtool?

  • @JohanLithvall : Sorry for the late reply Johan! Yes, it's very easy to apply the noise to only a polygroup: mask all areas that you don't want the noise applied to (you can easily select polygroups by Sift+Ctrl clicking on them -with the Select Rect brush- and then using Ctrl+ drag to mask them - > let me know if this worked for ya :)

  • @EtcherTube It worked perfectly fine, thank you very much for this great piece of advice & the rest of your tutorials :) I managed to create a suit using your technique, so many thanks for that! Pic can be found on pixologic on facebook, it's the orc I have as youtube-pic he he

  • hi, it was great video! can zbrush 3 do something like this?

  • @daloart : thanx, glad the vid was helpful. This is a new feature in Z4, so you won't be able to use Z3 -> if you're a registered user you can update to Z4R2 for free!

  • @EtcherTube wow, thanks for the reply and the info :)

  • Thank you very much for taking the time to post this. I just happen to be working on an illustration featuring a whimsical little knight. I've done everything, clean UV's, nice perfect alpha, but the alpha appears applied at a slight angle. Also, while looking nice in preview, once applied to the mesh the pattern seems to lose a lot of resolution, even at level 7 or 8. After some hours, I'm stumped.

  • hmmm thanks for the fast reply etchertube, i think i know what you mean, im sure i did the uvs before adding the noise, i will try again...could you post the link to your beta thread it would be great help. I cant find your post on zbrush central.

  • @SuperMontana2008 : Youtube does not allow the posting of links in replies -> go to my website (see link in Profile box) and you can go to my betathread from there, you'll also find links to my other tutorials :) hth

  • when i move my UVs like your doing the noise is all distorted, any ideas why?

  • @SuperMontana2008 : keep these steps in mind: you HAVE to adjust the UV's BEFORE applying the noise. You HAVE to "work on clone" in UVMaster and then Copy&Paste the UV's to the original tool. I supplied a written and illustrated step by step in my beta thread on ZBrush Central. Let me know if this helps :)

  • Where did you get the tileable alpha texture?

  • @greatveemonGFX : check out my Betathread at ZBrush Central, you'l find a complete walkthrough on how to create the tileable alpha

  • Why did you make your UVs all square-ish in the beginning? Was that necessary?

  • @sheebshag : I did that to have a controlled continuity of the tileable from one UV island to the other.

  • Very nice! dig the dark music and the fleshiness of the material you used

  • @jerickman : thanks so much -> I know it's "only" a demo, but I wanted to bring in the mood of the Beast's world, the material is the standard White Cavity MatCap with Wax activated (100%)

  • @EtcherTube Yup. Just the other day I got my update email. The wax option was one of the first I discovered.

  • Thank you for the video! I'm waiting for my copy and this is tiding my over. I can see I will be using this all the time. What happens if you use 3d + masking? Do you think you could get similar results?

  • @mastershokhan : thanks for watching & you're welcome :) . I'm not sure I follow you on the 3d/masking question but I tried different ways to get finer textures on sculpts and this is by far the best.
