  • prolecontrol. What's meth?

  • These folks are Middle class compared to us Darlington serfs....theyre from the boro, the second worst place in the world to live, after DAAARRRRLLLO,DAAAARRRLLLO!! up the Quakers!! (the WORST football team in the universe)

Right,i'm off to buy some meth to get to sleep with CHOW.

  • If you lose job you have to live Like £50 -£7 a day more and more poverty from 1 april stop tax gredit work

  • that's funny. uk has its own definition of "poverty" what a shame

  • plus...i wouldnt call that poverty when your child has a slide and a trampoline.

back in the early 90's when i was a child we had to use the coal fire to heat and grill food because we didnt have enough electric in the meter. i had to wear my brothers old clothes and

have butter sandwiches for school dinner., haha thats poverty!

  • Spoke to single mum recently, she gets ESA, DLA, child allowance, child tax credits total £980 every 4 weeks, free rent, council tax, dental, prescriptions, school lunch. Poverty dream on!

  • If they are so poor why do they have 4 children?

  • £886.38 a month in tax credits including child allowance for 3 kids, rent, council tax, dental, prescriptions, free school lunches to name but a few on top of this, then add mums & dads state handouts, there's no poverty in this UK home!

  • I've just been on child tax credit & allowance calculator & you will get £886.38 in state handouts for 3 kids, rent, council tax, school lunches, prescriptions, dental & on top of that lot mum & dads state handouts. There's no child poverty in this home! Do the maths!

  • Poverty? Looks like a Nice, clean safe neighborhood to me

  • I don't think any kids in the UK live in poverty, you can get £206.45 in child tax credits a week if you have 4 children & still have an income from work of just under £16000 & then £60.50 a week in child allowance which in turn would give a weekly household income of about £500, that's not poverty!

  • @09SRILANKA

what if the family had 9 children, before the father died and the mum couldnt find work.

  • Changes from 1 April 2011

From 1 April 2011 the rates for Local Housing Allowance will be reduced across the country:

    Weekly excess

The maximum £15 weekly excess that some customers can get will be removed.

    Limits on payments

A limit will be introduced so that Local Housing Allowance does not exceed:

£250 a week for a one bedroom property (including shared accommodation)

£290 a week for a two bedroom property

£340 a week for a three bedroom property

£400 a week for a four bedroom property

  • There is grinding poverty in the capitalistic economies. In Norway and Switzerland, the situation is almost as critical as in the UK.

  • There is much poverty in the U. K., even more than in Norway.

  • Trampoline, expensive Disney toy, tatoos, nice home, abundance of toys come on guys youre hardly living in poverty. Ive asked before & ill ask again how much in total do you get from the state including rent, council tax, school lunches/trips,dental prescriptions, sickness/incapacity, child tax credits/benefit, and remember for all of this you do not have to work for even 1 minute! Answer the question.

  • some of u r just hartless!

  • I am sad for your loss nobody should be on the planet for such a short time.

To be fair though in regards to poverty I think its a bit of an insult to people in 3rd world countries to say this is poverty. They've got a garden and a trampoline, don't work and don't have to beg. u wanna see how kids live in India!

  • We are told from an early age work hard and you will be rewarded... i know for a fact this isn't the case... the working man doesn't stand a chance... the government and big business decide what they think you should be entitled.. people have no incentive cause they are hammered everytime they try

  • Not been funny, two members of my family are bipolar manic depressives, one has been sectioned many times yet THEY BOTH WORK!!

  • Thats not poverty

  • why is it that poor people seem to keep having kids. is contraception really expensive in the UK? my husband and i live in NZ, both work full time and have our own home. we have no kids - mainly because we don't want any, but even if we did, we'd probably only have one, because that's all we could afford! we don't want to be relying on government handouts, like these people do. we have the same problem here with women having more kids while on the benefit. i just don't get it.

  • @pipsqueakNZ its called lack of inteligence, its the class system, make no mistake the disparities in wealth between the rich & poor in the uk are reaching levels not seen since victorian times, thats why the country is littered with low lives and robbing scum but at the same time a minimum wage job is a pathetic joke & a waste of time, its too expensive to live in this country & unless your getting a big wage you can only afford to live where people piss in the street & bully your kids.

  • Would still like to know your average disposable income guys per week, I'm guessing you dare not say because of the public response/ outrage!

  • Still havnt answered my question on their weekly income/ handouts yet, must be still working it out. LOL, idea ask social they will give you a calculator.

  • poverty?, these people have no idea what real povert is

  • im poorer than them, but i don't consider myself poor, this family is just feeling sorry for themselves, their government will never let them starve or go without medical treatment, they will also get to go to college, they are just living without luxury.

i have seen people living in boxes, and under bridges, not all of them are crack addicts or alcoholics, most are just very poor, and i live in a first world country.

if you were poor in a capitalist country, you wouldn't own a house.

  • There is nothing worse than a poor but adequate wage. Poverty in the UK? Thank Blair and his banker buddies!

However, our own contribution to our own circumstances must also be taken into account - this is more difficult to acknowledge.

  • Donna looks well-fed.

  • Oxfam and you tube are not letting us criticise them here by using the"you tube not available at this time" pop up. Any one else get this response?

  • @TheGuguking Your comment is posted here. Dumbass!

  • Neither of them are employed? Have one of them work and one look after the children, like most families.

  • People think you are talking rubish if you say this country will become third world but i think over population will do just that, housing will be one of the biggest shortages within the next 15 years when all the immigrant children start to leave home, anyone who thinks we can simply build homes to meet demand is living in a fantasy, then there is the demand on food and energy from a growing population all this pushing up cost and inflation causing more poverty, who is to blame ?????

  • @MrBorderghost

re patrinisation is the real normal sojution

  • Work & your kids will think this is what they should do as they grow up. Rely on welfare, free housing, state handouts, prescriptions, dental, school lunches, sick money etc your kids will to. Smoke da weed, drink ale, chat shit, no routine etc and your kids will think this is the norm.

  • @09SRILANKA well do work I agree.absolutly. but one of them should be there for the children

  • Hey you guys what's your total income from the state a week in £ you have not earned, come on don't be shy, dare you to tell us.

  • I've noticed a very clear pattern in my family & friends etc... Parents who have a work ethic create this work ethic in their kids. I have cousins, friends & people I know whose parents have not & will not work & sure enough their kids are the same. The working parents have working kids. It's as clear as can be.

  • Lazy, uneducated, non-intellectual, playing the victims, these are some of the views i have come heard expressed over the years of people in these situations. but the fact i, if you can compare there situation with real poverty, you would find that its more to do with the system providing way too much in terms of benefits. they have no drive or incentive to work or provide any better than they already receive.... its a shame that our social system has produced this type of people.

  • Social learning theory, get off the sofa and lead by example both of you if you want the kids to do the best.

  • Poverty? Seriously? They had shoes right? they had a roof over their heads right? They seem to have been fed right? Their children go to school for free right? Am I imagining these things...

  • they look richer than my family, and i wouldnt be considered in poverty in america....

what we consider poverty in america is people living in boxes or shanty towns, a lot of them veterans from the vietnam war, sick and starving, no access to healthcare. and thats nothing compared to poverty in africa.

  • Benefits benefits so easy to get in England ,have another baby then you get more money right? I dont feel sorry for these people

  • Theres relative poverty in the west and absolute poverty in se asia/africa etc. But having said that the system is still screwed and its the kids who suffer the most.

  • Poverty in the UK is a problem, but I find it hard to have sympathy for people like this who create an unsustainable amount of children. Birth control is free in this country, people, if you really wanted to be an electrician or mechanic then you should've learnt to use a condom and gone and got a city & guilds.

  • Just because it isn't third world poverty does not mean these people don't deserve help. I didn't think that would need saying but here I am saying it.

  • Who Pays Income Taxes and how much? Tax Year 2008 Percentiles Ranked per the IRS The Top 1% Pay 38.02of all taxes The Top 5% Pay 58.72% The Top 10% pay 69.94% The top 25% Pay 86.34% of all taxes The top 50% pay 97.30 of all taxes!!!!!! The Bottom 50% pay only 3% of all taxes is this fair? no NO NO NO NO!!!!!!
  • @dentgregg ~ Sorry but those figures are quite obviously false.

  • One word WORK!!!

  • There definitely seems to be an increase in women who suffer from depression & let the guy be the main carer. In my friend's case, she has worked out a life of 'security' on the sick, while her poor long suffering husband does everything. I had a partner who liked me to be too psychologically dependent on him. I took control, put a stop to it, work, pay my mortgage & look am the sole carer of my family. There are two ways of doing things. I prefer my way, although I do not resent my friend.

  • she doesnt look hungrey to me

  • This is not poverty. This may be low income...but poverty? I highly doubt that. I'll show you real poverty in industrialized countries.

  • I am 14 and would LOVE to help out at a homeless shelter, could anyone plz tell me whee to even begin to ask??? it would mean a lot thanksx :)

  • This family will have just as much disposable income as many working families & in many cases much more, difference is they do nothing for theirs apart from sit around playing the "we're in poverty" card. A load of bull.

  • @09SRILANKA Poverty is endemic in Britain today and you are right, many working people do indeed live in poverty. Our taxation is the highest in Europe and it is only debt which has kept many famiies inside the breadline.

We have a growing public deficit, because for 30 years Governments have hopelessly neglected the private sector and worse are continuing to do so.

As a result, our whole country is both povertised worse, bankrupt! and huh! politicians are far too incompitent to fix this!

  • When this New World Order comes into effect very soon, how will this family cope then? Be prepared! Arm yourself! Protect your children!

  • I'm sorry but if you live in an industrialized western country that has social security and healthcare and you are still complaining about being poor, you need to turn on the news and get a grip and stop whining. I'm not saying the wealth in the West is equally distributed because some people earn just too damn much, but don't act as if you need to search for food or walk 10 kilometers to find water in a country that has social services, health care and all sorts of aid-programs.

  • @SSTTEEAALLTTHH Who Pays Income Taxes and how much? • How are you guys going to manage when your handouts are capped at £26000 a year?

  • Poverty, I don't think so. Every bill, their home and handouts galore. Get a grip!

  • Spoiled, may I add.

  • Mislabeled. This is not poverty. They have a nice house and toys for kids, are you kidding me. Sorry, but trying to live in a nice house and dream of nice vacations and parties is not people in poverty.

  • @MrJdele Poverty is relevent to the country you are born into, a nice home or even toys does not mean that these people are not in poverty. Indeed it could be said because of the debt, that Britain as a whole is seriously povertised.

In fact if debt were taken into the equation as part of the definition of "poverty" we are worse off than many third world countries.

Finally as regards "Nice houses" or vacations, how many of us can truly afford this without debt?..

    Think about it!

  • They are suffering from poverty at all-low income yes.I have seen much worse conditions. They are all wearing decent clothes, not the trendious but at lesast they have something on.I read a story once in a mag where a girl had to save up buy clothes from primark. Her dad died and her mum is disabled. As a result her mum had to rely on disability benefits and child benefit, her flat didn't have a door-just a strip of cardboard and she lived on baked beans everynight.

    to be cont

  • Wow poverty in the UK is not bad at all compared to the US!

  • @Angelhaven95 Well, there are homeless people and imigrants living in worse conditions in UK too of course, this is just about British poor

  • @Angelhaven95 Hmm I would not count on that, as I said, poverty is relative. If you consider that the UK has almost one of the highest rate of debt in Europe you would realise that its wealth is purely fabrication, I guess the same could be said of the US also.

It is the old argument over distribution of wealth where it is not those who work long hours who reap the most reward, but those of the city where greed is clearly the governing factor, if in doubt, ask any farmer!

  • carer..... get a job, its more important

  • They do not seem impoverished to me. The kids look very healthy.

  • is this poverty????? I don't think so...just a low income...your house is better than so many people and at least you can think about going to the store!!! Thank God for what you've got...

  • John and donna perhaps you could tell us what your handouts amount to a week. Bet I get no reply, there would be an outcry, don't forget anything include sick£, rent, council tax, prescriptions, dental, scool lunch/trips, tax credits, income support, child allowance, care money and anything else I havnt remembered. Thanks.

  • Check yourstory08's channel to see how real poverty looks like.

  • At least they did not have to spend time at the Newham Hotel on Romford Road, London. At least they do not have to deal with dodgy estate agents or shitty private land lords. I did and it was not fun.

  • Poverty my bum perhaps you guys could share with the British tax payer what your grand total amounts to a week, dont forget school lunches, dental, rent, child allowance, council tax, sickness/carers £, income support the list is endless. Perhaps i could have a bit of support with my income!

  • Goodness me poverty my bum, sickness money, rent paid, council tax, teeth, prescriptions, school lunch & the list goes on etc. Many of us have kids and have to fit in a job around them and juggle bills etc aswell. Bet your state handouts better my income by far. I doubt you would be able to afford to work, you would have to give the tattoos a miss and the piercings etc......Dont plead poverty guys for every pound you get you get it for free.

  • 'Your friend who is a nurse' probably should have used what everyone else describes as poverty and seen it as less the 60% of the median income, not some arbitrary measure.

  • Yes, we have it easier here than a lot of people, but that doesn't mean that we don't struggle every now and then or face problems. We shouldn't compare how hard our lives are, we should just acknowledge that everyone faces difficulties.

  • they're lived in a big house

    good environment,good view

come to HK and see what is the poor

  • Poverty is lack of dignity, being put onto the scrapheap. It is more socially acceptable to be greedy than to be poor. If you are poor, you will be badly thought of, and distrusted. You may be full of virtue, y, but if you are poor you will be looked upon as a potential thief.Your children will be marked with the word POVERTY and never be allowed to rise, unless they are prepared to sell their souls, because we have lost our moral compass in this country and only class wealth as a merit.

  • @realzoomy poverty is not being able to provide your self with necessties, it has nothing to do with dignity. food, water, clothing and shelter. everything you need to live.

I agree about the stigma aspect, it can be self fulfilling and snowball

  • Okay low income yes poverty no.

  • Tgere not suffering from poverty, they have a roof over their heads and the condition which their house is in is better than what i have seen.

Also, haven't they heard of contraception. Why on earth would you want to raise a child in poverty.

  • This is not poverty. I once saw a video from India which showed entire families living in abandoned industrial tubes, no bathroom, no kitchen, no water, absolutely nothing.

  • yeah but still cant turn a blind eye just cause there better off than alot of third world countrys.

  • my god....they think they have it bad...live in africa for a month...then they will know just how well off they are!

  • but they have a roof over their heads

  • A problem created by Labour and Tories.

  • Let John go to work - the kids can be in school or nursery and Donna needs to get some more help so she doesn't spend the next 50 years depressed.

  • i come from Mexico this video just seems bizarre to me.

i wish i lived in a house like that in Mexico...

  • This famiy will have more income than some working families with 4 children.

( contraception springs to mind )

  • Whilst this is touching-I have 2 argue with that fact that 1/5 living in the uk are living in poverty?I really don't think so.I've spent summers working in Africa -i know what poverty is.if you have a home, not deprived of food, have some money(if not a lot)for food & clothes-if your children are in education, & you have a couple sets of clothes you arnt living in poverty- I know NOONE in the Uk living in poverty or even close to it!!Unlike the third world im sure 1 of these pair could get a job!

  • Good point! I come from a third world country where people have no house to live,no food to eat. British haven't even smelt poverty. They should be taught more about the rest of the world to appreciate what they've got.

  • there are people in the uk living in poverty , i know someone who had to declear bankcrupcy lost his house and everything his partner left him taking the kids and had to live in his car doing cash in hand jobs he didnt see his kids for 4 years it caused him mental health problems but he made a come back and now runs his own company with electric motors or something but your right its diffrent to africa where opportunities dont exist to have a wash not alone work

  • my entire area is considered an economically poor area...

there are several renevation programs currently running, funded by the EU

This is to the extent were we are officially poorer than countries like Romania

    *hides*

i'd just love to hurt who-ever thought "The Skills Xchange" was a good name for a college :S

(it's also shaped like an imperialo star-destroyer... across the road from the brand-new ASDA :D )

    failure at its best

  • but yeah i doubt its 1 in 5 more like 1 in 30 at least i think this guy really needs to toughen up and go get certified as a electrician and get a job or go self employed and show his kids how its done while he has the opportunity

  • Generally speaking it's relative poverty not absolute poverty. And I think you missed the point somewhat - the wife has depression and can't work, and isn't capable of looking after 4 children by herself during the day at the moment. The husband wants to work but has to look after the children. It's easy for you to sit up on your high horse and say "Oh you're not in poverty, stop sponging and get a job." but its really not as easy as that now is it.
