I have no idea to what mistake you are referring. Neither of my kids were ever molested, so I had no need to call the police. But I have read of and spoken to several people who were df'd for going to the police. There have been several examples of such on many different news programs for the past eight years. Recordings of the programs are at silentlambsdotorg.
