No, this episode didn't air on September 11, 2001. That was the date when the show producers originally called me to be on the show for the Travel Trivia segment. While I was on hold watching the television with the first tower burning, they tried to start the show and when the second tower got hit the producer came on the line and said, "We're under some kind of attack right now and will have to call you back." They returned to the air two weeks later and this was their first show back again.
Jimmy, you were fortunate to have won a TRIP. I, too, got a call, though in the early 90s with Regis and Kathie Lee. I won a pair o'pants and shirt. I was too fat to fit it their largest size, and had to pass it on to someone else. Another fat story :(). But fun/ny. This was an interesting side note into your life - thanks for sharing.
Golly---with the prize so close to home---could they have given you another? I know the answer is no but golly---I think a change in venue would have been nice. Tropical maybe!!! I am glad you won though. I hope you had rest and relaxation!!!!
LOL! What made it so funny is the prize was just a few hours away and we'd actually never been to Myrtle Beach. In fact, we've only been the one time when I won this on Regis. It's a story I'll never forget the rest of my life. :)
i looked up regis/911 because it was this show that I was watching when news of the plane crash first switched over. I haven't won anything in my life, so it's interesting to see a youtube's 1st hand account of winning a TV show trip, especially under these abnormal circumstances. Congrats on your win and I hope your trip was a blast (golf is the last interesting sport on my list)
Jontiac have you ever found the clip of Regis on 9/11... during the anniversary of 9/11 I always look for it since I was doing the same thing (watching Regis and Kelly)... Congrats on your trip! It is neat to see it from this side of things
THANKS, Jodi! Regis and Kelly certainly got a big kick out of it. "You could call home, wouldn't cost you anything." Yeah, yeah, yeah...hardy har har. :D
It was an experience I'll NEVER forget though. ;)
Congrats, Jimmy. I was the Dec. 11, 2001 winner and won a trip to Almond Beach Resorts (all inclusive) in Barbados. FANTASTIC! My husband and I raised a toast to Regis, Kelly and Gelman at every meal.
Ironically, I broke my wrist a month before the trip, so I didn't get to take those golf lessons. They gave us an extra day in the hotel in exchange for the no golf.
It's a great place to visit...when all the tourists go away! :D We had an AWESOME trip and even sent pictures to Regis. He never showed them on the air, but it was a trip I'll NEVER forget. My favorite part of the video--"Two what?" when Gelman said Far & Wide is a tour operator. I joke with Christine about it often.
Jimmy, what a way to remember that time period, at least it was something lighthearted. I can't believe your prize was for a trip so close to home!! Hilarious!! Just have to ask, how did you choose the number 129 for the audience prize winner?
THANKS! It was such a neat moment in my life that I have always wanted to share this on YouTube. I'm glad it's here now. :D
As for the number, my age at the time was 29 and I just added a "1" at the front of the number. When I saw that little girl get so excited that her mommy had won, I was so glad I chose that number.
Wasn't it funny how Regis & Kelly kept playfully jabbing me? My wife said she never remembered them spending that much time with a contestant before.
Maybe it was because it was the first show they did after 9/11 and they were TRYING to move on. Regardless, I'll NEVER forget it for the rest of my life.
this really aired on 9/11? i thought regis and kelly showed footage until news interrupted and took over for the rest of the week?
