  • very good very good amazing i would like to buy a roland sh201, so i would like to know some about this amazing synthesizer, i like jean michel jarre and im looking for new sounds like this, can you tell me some features or your expierence with this synthesizer, and recommend me to buy it?

  • You've pretty much got the rest of the lick at your finger tips....

Jean Michels music sounds pretty complex, but once you learn it, it's pretty easy... you have the nine notes, it's just running them in reverse for the rest of the lick, ending in the C.....so from the second three, run then in reverse, then a note below the last of the set, and so on, til you hit the last three, then it's G,F,C... Enjoy... I am !! :)

  • OKE.. nice sound :) Nice Solina btw.

  • hey man thanks!

  • Merci pour cette démo, j'ai suivi vos différents réglages et y suis parvenu aussi. Mis en mémoire sur mon SH maintenant ;) Merci encore pour ce tutoriel

  • a digital synth pretending to be analog. nothing wrong with that. but with the sh-201, you get what you pay for. and again, nothing wrong with that. i like this synth very much.

  • Question: Kay, that was amazing first of all, secondly,

how did you store that sick violin patch?

    Editor software?

    or off Roland's website?

  • @TheSynthNation

    Tnx!

You can select the upper or lower key to create a sound. See the manual for instructions since the lack of characters I can write here. The sounds are stored together just using the synth stand alone.

  • Great version of a classic synth sound!

  • Someone got really close to this using the DCAM Cypher.

  • Ok...I got the Synth1, what's the best way to achieve that laser harp sound, like default patch, settings?

  • @alphazoom

Just start with a default patch and use the instructions in this tutorial. The basics are the same.

    Good luck!

  • Just Google and download it. Vst is a standard, so it's compatible!

  • What would the best softsynth be to try this? If you know off hand?

  • @alphazoom

I tried it on the free vst, I guess it is called Synth1. It looks like the Nord Lead and is fantastic!

  • @reijnoud Is Synth1 one of the standard Cubase5 vst sounds or do you have to download it?

  • Of Course! To get Chorus on the 201 you simply turn up the FX to MAx, & the Time to 0. And then move it a Fraction for a slight delay! Genius!

What does "Holding" the AMP button do, opposed to simply pushing it to the ON mode & THEN moving the Knob?

Also, I can't seem to find any Tutorials of the SH201 Software/USB Modelling. Why is that? Is it just Crap or sumit?!!

  • @therealKINDLE

Do you have a manual? Your questions are answered right there. You can download it from Roland.

The software is really great and works as a VST with the SH-201 as a soundsource. You can access more parameters. I was really stunned by the amount of parameters you can edit!

  • Thanks! is really a great sound

  • Nice attempt :) You don't need to use a Supersaw oscillator, though. 2 simple Saw oscillators sync'd and ring-modulated do the job (the original Synthex patch is made like that).

  • @Decimator7

I used the supersaw to have a fatter sound. I also have a version with only 2 sawtooth waveforms.

To bad the SH-201 can't do both ringmod and sync...

  • @reijnoud : of course :) the original patch also used chorus to make it fatter. SH-201 can do that ;-)

  • @Decimator7

The sh-201 chorus is not alike the Synthex...

  • @reijnoud :

None is nowadays, since 3-band chorus units are not used anymore. But a hint of chorus or fast flanger can add some meat ;)

  • @reijnoud There is no chorus efx on the SH-201 only Amp overdrive ,Reverb & Delay !!

  • woooah dude thats amazing =]] thanxs :D but is there anyway u can teach us how to do tha last part like the lasers and the strings... i never understoode how to mix two different sounds on this keyboard :c srry for being a noobish lol

  • @elcacahuate95

Easy: create the laserharp sound on the lower part (press the Lower button) and the strings on the upper part. Then you can play both sounds with the keyboard split (also a button somewhere).

    And also RTFM ;-)

  • gotta love the 201

  • Thanks for the toturial.

  • man thanx dude!! for the tutorial i was planning on trading this thang on craigslist until i heard you play...Fierce (myspace/mercenariesprod.)

  • Yuo can allways trade this thing, but I think it has a lot of potential in it. The software editor is excellent zo you can do even more with the D-beam and effects :-)

    Greetz!

  • This is a piece from Jean Michell Jarre

  • You sound like Captain Obvious!

  • I did not mean anything wrong, I thought I sent you a compliment, PEACE.

  • I didn't take it wrong, I actually liked it.

Just tried to be funny ;-)

    Tnx!

  • Right on, my friend. Greetings from Seattle/

  • Very nice tutorial, very nice sound.

Although i cant help thinking that a little work on the LFOs could add that little extra something.

But please dont take this as criticism, i think it's nice and simple to the point without unnecessary complications.

  • Tnx for the advice!

I also have a sound more like the harp on Rendez-Vous 3 which uses no distorion. Since I hooked up the synth to the computer I played with the elaborate effects settings to create a better sound.

With editing this sound I discovered that the range of the osc envelope is to narrow...

  • i think someone should make a book on how to make certain sounds...I LOVE this sound!! wellll donee

  • Or a Wiki!

It sounds nice on this Roland, but I whished I had an Elka Synthex... ;-)

  • Dude.. You're a deamon on this thing!

  • wreed! ga je nog meer filmpjes online zetten?

  • @GamerX7800X

    Tnx!

Vast wel een keer, maar voorlopig nog even niet...

  • Verry nice!
