If you "google" the man "George Schowerer", there are a few links in the results leading to interesting info about Ellie, the background singers, Bob Crewe and the NY recording scene. I'm a big fan of the 1960's girl-group songs. Just discovered THIS song and now my obsession is killing me ! Did Penny Pingleton get her hair-do from Ellie ?
Just a great track from two great talents, the late, great Ellie Greenwich, and the magical production techniques and sound of Bob Crewe. This really has such a nice feel to it and definitely had the makings of a smash hit record in 1967. Surprising it didn't receive any chart action. Thanks for the post.
Such a great song and nicely put together. Thanks for the post. As you co-wrote the song why wasn't your name added to the credit? Seems wrong somehow.
I don't know how you got the idea that I co-wrote this song. Bob Crewe wrote the song with Ellie. I simply celebrated their work as Ellie had asked me to do. Chameleon
@MowestChameleon Hi. I read the statement in your write up above. But I miss read it as I though you were saying it rather than Ellie. Sorry about that. Even so I can only read Bob Crew's credit on the label. So there is something missing. Just observing. Cheers
I know "Don't Ever Leave Me" in versions done by Connie Francis and Ellie's own group the Raindrops. Both are great. It is my all-time 2nd favorite Connie Francis song after "Everybody's Somebody's Fool".
Someone I know had acquired this single a couple of years after it had been released, brought it over to my house, put it on my stereo, and asked me if I could guess who was singing it. I guessed Dusty Springfield. I had heard of Ellie Greenwich and had even heard "I Want You To Be My Baby" on the radio a few times, but I wasn't that familiar with her to know that she was singing this.
You too? I knew it was Ellie, but Dusty Springfield was the first person I thought of when I heard this song. It sounds to me like something she would have recorded.
FYI, that was Mirasound Studios, not United Artists Studios.

I was very sad to hear about her death! A wonderful voice and an excellent songwriter! This should have been a top 10 hit at least!

This tune has a real magic to it.
It just keeps getting better each time I hear it.

She passed away much too young. I hope they do a Leader of the Pack revival. It's a great show and started the "juke box" ,musical fad.
