In the first Sonic game the emeralds were 6.

The creators of AoStH were trying to be a it more imaginative, so they redesigned the emeralds and removed some fo them just for the show.

AND, the way Sonic and Tails were on the beach, was just like in the Movie, with Tails even holding a board and Sonic was sitting on that beach chair!
