  • A very expressive slow movement that's more appreciated on multiple hearing.

  • Hai Thorongil ...

    All hail the mighty Thorongil..

Aw you are probably right...although proselytisation

    was not my intent .

I was just drunk...doesn' t mean I did not mean what was said .

  • @scitsalcoryp Oh please. Proselytize elsewhere.

  • Oops!

This is the Berlin Philharmonic, not the Bavarian orchestra. From 1965. I have the cd.

    Sorry.

  • Yes, Mathi80, this is quite a lovely slow movement by Bruckner. However, I believe his 3rd and 7th symphonies have more beautiful adagios.

This recording is by Eugen Jochum from the middle 1960`s with the Bavarian National Orchestra. The label is Deutsche Grammophon.

12clar3412clar34 has also downloaded Jochum`s fine Bruckner Symphony No. 3 on Youtube from 1967. It is even better than this second symphony!

Thank you, 12clar341, for your generosity and wondrous selections!!

  • Great recording! This is one of my favourite Bruckner movements altogether, despite many musicians saying that Bruckner found his "real" style only from 3rd symphony onwards - what a hooey! Who's playing & conducting please?

  • @Mathi80 I agree - this movement is terrific, and so is the slow movement of No. 2. Bruckner simply is the greatest writer of Adagios.

  • This is great music. Strong as Bach, but more sombre (as i feel it. But of course thats personal.)

  • No-one beats Bruckner. Not a note wasted.
