I am going to do a series soon on Scientology. My folks are/were (past away in to 80's) heavily into Scie'gy.
Hubbard was diagnosed as Bi Polar and after repeated refusal to undertake therapy, was banned from psychiatric clinics.
He also studied phychology. The reason Scie'gy is so hard to counter, is that the foundation is factually based in psychology but riddled with sci-fi undertones.
Please be very careful, what you reject and what you accept as you may reject a cognitive fact!
Keep up the good work - you are picking an ambitious topic. As I said, please be careful - eg the word definition principle is actually factual - if you come accross a word you do not understand - the mind will hault at that word and the rest of the data will be not recognised cognitively but the key to the brainwashing is that most systems he adopted was fact but used in such a way that was pointing to HIS means.
I hardly think anyone over the age of 12 would need the word "acute" or "exist" defined for them, but ok.
I do reject this "the Secret" esque idea of "if you want something hard enough it will happen to you" or "If you don't want something it will happen to you". It's unsubstantial. Otherwise, most of this stuff is psych101. He has a tendency to oversimplify things and attribute them in ways that don't make sense (like taking survival of the fittest and applying it to society). Thanks. :)
Sweet - as long as you are aware - that is cool. I care for the victims of sci'gy. Mt father, even after all the shit he went through, still claims scientology is accurate. He is in his 70's and is stead fast on it.
As far as your other comment - you are spot on. It is cool that you can distinguish that.
Oh yeah. Dammit. I forgot to mention something about chapter 3, thanks for reminding me. Hubbard basically explains the process of brainwashing and controlling groups of people. I had a good chuckle about that. Have you read this book?
It's scary man. We have scientologists around here who leave fliers everywhere. I've struggled with the idea of taking them and throwing them out, because I know about the victims. I don't, but I wish someone would.
The very 1st level of indocrination of brainwashing they did to me - was nearly 18 hours of 'auditing' answering 2 Q's while hooked up to an E-meter (bio rhythmic lie dectector/brain wave analysis).
The Q's had to be answered in the affirmative until the right condition was being diplayed for an 'open' mind - called a floating E-Meter needle.
Q's were
Do fish fly
Do birds swim
18 hrs - I think Scie'gy is THE most dangerous thing we have in the religious sector.
I am transgender. It was the 1st memory I had in life, my association with mum as being what I felt I represented at age 3.
By the time I was 9, I was heading in the right direction to stand up for myself. My father, who was homophobic, thought I was going down a homosexual path (I am, if you consider I like chicks and am M>F) and beat me.
At 10 he took me there to 'cure' me of homosexuality (in the 70's). I was never convinced from the start
I worked out the E-Meter and what they wanted to see.
(a floating needle as opposed to a jagged responding needle - I could hear the 'taps' of the needle when it hit the 'stopper' that prevents a VU meter needle from winding like the hands on a clock)
I then figured out @10 yrs of age, that lightly appying pressure to the cans (just like coke cans) in my hands could give them the 'impression' of a 'floating needle'.
my rejection @10 of all religions, led me on a path of self correction, even of my transgenderness.
I am now 40 and JUST started transitioning to female. This would have been prevented as I displayed, and was caught, at school with female clothes on.
This prompted the school to ring my parents - they rang scientology - scie'gy then threatened the schools psychologist and that was the end of that.
Wow. Yeah, I see a lot of that. They target the rich a lot and bleed them dry. You should make a video about your story, it really is amazing that you were able to see through all that. Have you heard of AngieAntitheist? Apparently she was indoctrinated into a cult as well and got out. I read her story on her blog. It makes me really thankful that my mother was only a liberal christian.
It is going to be series of vid's. I will disclose the whole story but the script, so far, is about 4 vids long and I really dont know how interesting just 1 story is, in comparrison to the magnitude of suffering that others have gone through.
I almost feel as if it is attention seeking to do so.
I also protest in my own special way, not just threads on the internet - trust me on that ;)
I definitely think it's an interesting story. People can often identify better with victims if they hear a testimony and I think that's important. If you present it in such a manner that is to educate people on the ways scientology indoctrinates people, and make it clear that you're not trying to gain sympathy (you don't really need sympathy, anyway, you were smart enough to see through it) I don't think anyone would accuse you of being an attention seeker.
I have no issue with the psychologically based studies, there were very few in the book save for the Hubbard Chart and processing. I reject the claims that thinking about questions can make you go mad.
Most of what I read that was actually psychologically based was pretty simplistic. Like the part about "knowing yourself" yeah, that's fine but there's nothing really new about it, you'll find that in any self-help book.
OK

When I told my father that I was transitioning to female, 3 years ago - guess what he said?
He wished he had enough money to send me in for auditing!
The irony is, it was Scientology that made our family bankrupt!

ps
My father was a multi millionaire but spent every cent on getting my mother cured of cancer as they said they could.
She got to NED for OT's level 5 (max 8)
The story has just begun and this thread is not a platform, I feel, for this to go further.
I hope you get the picture from that!

Thanks. I uploaded part 2 and it got rejected to length even though it was only 10:43 seconds. I'll have to re-record and upload it later tonight.
