I got one few months ago black/red the bike is very smooth quick acceleration . i leave it on first gear and 7 gear and it is quick i do not need to switch to second gear if i do i leave it on the fourth . the bike is very attractive to the eye and performance is amazing i go on long bike routes its half concrete and half dirt it changes to where i go and it is excellent on both ends i could not be happier . i have my old mountain bike witch i still love but this bad boy is just beyond great
@NinjaKid56810 Have you ran into ANY problems with your Crosstrail yet?? I just got one as an early xmas gift but its too cold to ride long distances for the next 4 months (I live in Iowa)... I agree that it is heavy for a hybrid and I dont like how the cables run under the down tube so Im gonna look for a good fender to block the water and dirt from ruining the cables.
i have a crosstrail comp on lay away plan right now and when i picked it up I would say it weighed no more than 10 pounds. Just a guess but it was suprisingly light for a metal framed bike. I fully intend on buying a dedicated trail bike (Stumpjumper FSR) and a dedicated road bike (Secteur). But I figured getting a solid commuter and excersize bike first was a wise thing to do.
i just got a Crosstrail (Sport Disc) over the weekend and i LOVE it.
i havent ridden a bike in over 6 years, but i got the hang of it in about 10 minutes. later that night, i invited a few friends to go biking (for those who have bikes), and 12 miles later..... wow, ive been missing out.
@kingoliver101 get a road bike if you ride on the road, and a mountain bike if you want to ride trails. this is something that attempts to do 2 things, but does neither exceptionally well
@SuperFunder So what if I'm riding down the road with my road bike to get some milk and I want to cut across a dirt path? Using your philosophy I should go back to the house and get my mountain bike. But then I would be riding on a road with a mountain bike. What to do? Oh, I got it! Go ahead and get a crosstrail for commuting because thats what is was perfectly designed for and totally ignore people like you. Noone buys a crosstrail for dedicated competition riding LOL.
I've road various mountain bikes and various road bikes for years, and still ride a mountain bike today, but having tried a friend's hybrid, my next bike will definitely be a hybrid. They're just comfier than dropped bars, but the thinner wheels and tyres (a opposed to MTB) give less resistance. You can literally go from road to trail comfortably, and herein lies the beauty of them. Yes, perhaps strict roadies and strict MTB'ers need not apply, but as for the rest of us...hybrids!
@strzebowiska I just got mine a few days ago as an early xmas gift BUT I live in Iowa and its gonna be too cold out to go my regular 30-40 miles rides... IT IS HEAVY for a hybrid but thats not always a bad thing because its great for momentum and with the 700c tires it makes for a good combination for riding on flat paved surfaces at a decent pace ! Im not quite mid-age (Im 32) but Im very athletic... Either way this seems like a very great AND underrated hybrid bike! Let me know if u agree !
It's got naff all to do with age, and everything to do with what type of biking you want to do. If you're a strict MTB head, sure, buy a MTB... and if you're a strict roadie, by a road bike... but if you want to do light-medium trails, commute and just about anything else, you just can't touch the modern hybrids. Apart from a cyclocross bike, I can't think of anything more fit for purpose. You have quite a narrow minded opinion there, I have to say.
This bike is closer to a shitty mountain bike than it is a hybrid road bike. But given the price point, it's a pretty solid value.

@SuperFunder, guess what? There are middle aged people out there, believe it or not.
Anyone, what's the weight of this piece? Specialized keeps it secret for some reason.

@DrVegasIII - I had plans to buy and slim down the Crosstrail
to less than 12 kg but finally there were no bikes in my size around.
So i went for a Spec Rockhopper 29er and upgraded it to a full
Shimano XT drivetrain (you can see it in my avatar).
It's a decent bike but I still regret I couldn't get the Crosstrail.
