  • this instrument is Called SARANGI

  • @01234567junejogreat

    Dear its called Ravanhatta.

The ravahatta is a two-string stick fiddle from Northwest India used by religious singers called bhopa to accompany the epic tales of Pabuji, a fourteenth century hero. It is has a wooden body and a small coconut resonator covered in skin. There is one melody string made from horsehair, a single metal drone string and a number of sympathetic strings. The bow has a number of small bells attached to provide rhythmic accompaniment.

  • what is the name of that instrument? such a beautiful tone!

  • @SonofHelge - It's Ravan Hattha...

  • sooo beautiful.. i cant wait to go to india.. i will never want to miss this opportunity. but i guess if ones lucky to meet them on the streets.

  • sound is so clear, its like recorded in a studio!

  • very owsum

  • Ravan Hattho sounds so much like Sarangi- it has been decades since I heard it being played and that too on a roadside of a small township in Saurashtra (Gujarat now) and in Chittor Rajasthan!

THANK YOU! Genuine art form strives to live off stage! Wonderful!

  • in the land of camels and desert .. now you get to hear nagging three wheelers honking !!! god save our country..

thanks for the great upload .... hate to see the state of musicians in our country.

  • @muzicphiles Brilliantly stupid comment. Of course, if there is a road nearby, then cars WUD be there and NOT camels. In america, people without a vehicle are considered below the poverty line, you want the same, eh?

  • @Parishrut2 . The instrument belongs to the desert . The artist have to come down to cities to earn , if they could be protected by the govt. they wouldn't need to come down to roadsides to perform .And your cars are no good in the desert..Don't politicize this post ..please talk music if you wan't.

  • Awesome! Wish there was no background noise.

  • Its Awesome....

  • Wonderful. I am proud to be an India, a rajasthani and a rajput. This song is "kersaria Balam", which means the loved one who is as precious as saffron. He is being welcomed to the country or "Des" which is Rajasthan. And the song goes on to praise the guest and the land. Its enchanting and only in Rajasthan can you find such love and music.

  • just toooooo goood... this is like bringing me back to my roots....

  • It's "RAVANHATTHA"

  • what is the instrument called????

  • Oh thanks a bunch for this video. It brought tears to my eyes... what a lovely music

  • if u go villages in india and pakistan u will find lot of ar rehman and shankar.. what i feel

  • I had seen one similar guy playing Ravan Hattha in Mandore Garden Jodhpur in 1991.His strumming on the strings produced such an enchanting tune that I was totally amazed.I have not seen any such folk artist in Kota and to me it seems that this instrument is assembled by these artists themselves. I have not seen this instrument selling in a musical shop.

  • In Jodhpur, I bought one from a 'mangtya', in 1978.

Use to play some oldies and they sound fabulous.

Any how will have to go to Jodhpur to search for that.

It is not in the shop usually.

    RR

  • Wonderful amazing, this is the folk Instrument of RAJASTHAN, Thanks for upload.

  • First off thanks for posting this song :)

Secondly, make sure Youtube never takes this down!

  • The song is "Padhaaro mhaare des" meaning "Welcome to my country". This shows the real welcoming spirit of Rajasthan and Indian culture. We consider our guests as Gods (atithi devo bhava). And this is best seen in this video. The man is poor, and owns nothing but an instrument...still the first thing he says is, "baitho", means, "Please sit". Where else would you find such humility, such welcoming attitude unstoppable by poverty. India rocks!

  • I have tears in my eyes. What else can I say!

  • To,Amorphous67
