Our brain automatically adjusts for perceived distance.

So unless we have a point of reference (wall along the road, guardrail) that has a constant height, we can't spot the difference.

These are too far for our brain.

I mean we can only spot the "fake" if a guardrail is right next to the cars.

As for the grass and sidewalk they actually add to the illusion.

@greeenpro2009 True, but as far as I can tell, they aren't parallel. In fact, most if not all of the straight lines seem to bend towards the farthest car, creating the illusion. If I cover the whole picture except for the cars themselves, the illusion fails.
