This actually was one of the first commercials. Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, and Kung Fu were released before Super Mario Bros. This was the 'deluxe' NES set that was released before the stand alone Mario Bros. combo. I was a bit young, so didn't get an NES until the Mario Bros/Duck Hunt combo was popular.

I feel sorry for young people. This shit was amazing when it was new. You don't understand the type of hype, considering there was no internet everyone was crazy about the NES.

@dsmspyder I remember exactly what you are talking about. I never had an NES as a child but always went over to a friends house to play Excite Bike and Ice Climber. I would get pissed when I would be playing a game and my friend would fuck with the horizontal and vertical control to make me lose. When he finally got SMB, I seriously thought no game could compete.

@aniskalove After the crash of 1983, american retailers wouldn't dedicate shelf space to video games. Nintendo included the ROB robot and zapper with the system to sell it as a toy rather then an electronic, once they proved it would sell in the market and it was a success, they axed ROB to bring down the price.

1986. I was in heaven with the very same NES setup in this commercial. The robot was cool for a while, but just became a paperweight cause only Gyromite and Stack Up were games for it. Cheating by using the 2nd controller to control the Gyromite gates became the usual as well as pointing the gun directly against the tv screen for shooting games

The Zapper is simply a light sensor. when you pull the trigger, you will always see a flash. but if you freeze frame it, You can see a little white square. The wii remote uses infrared technology to know exactly where the remote is pointing.

light guns cant work for flat screens and the screen would always have to flash when you shoot so youd be blind playing wii for too long. the light gun system and wii system is kinda the same but put light on the top of the tv so it would work with flatscreens
