As long as you give the bird time when you get home, you should be ok..... more time, better pet!! Also, make sure he has plenty of "bird toys" to occupy his attention while you're gone! If you ignore him, he'll tell you all about it! LOL!

Your sun conure is more red than mine, and my conure is nearing two but he has green spots on his wings that a lot of other sun conures I see don't have. Some are very yellow and he doesn't have quite so much., (you can see vids of him on youtube channel if you want.)

Sun Conures are awesome.They are,in my opinion, the gentlest parrot to have.I have a Sun (Kiwi) and his buddy (Peanut,a peach front conure) sitting on my shoulder watching Utube videos with me.They are so smart,but I have to say the Suns make the most annoying sounds.Repetitive sqaucks,it drives me nuts !

Actually a great video - But did you know it takes Sun Conures 3 years before they have their "adult" colors? My baby Shilo went through quite a transformation from 2 - 3 as well! Enjoy your baby, I adore Suns!

BTW, Jupiter became even more pretty on his 2nd year. After the first year I thought Conures couldn't get more pretty but they do. Wish Youtube would let me edit this video with a 2 year shot, lol. oh well.

His wings are clipped now. Jupiter gets rather bossy when he can fly, so we needed to clip soon after this video was made.

I adopted my conure at 5 years old from a woman who couldn't give it enough attention (She had a special needs child) And even though I didn't have him from being a baby, he is so faithful and loving to me! And protective. :p

yozo2424, they should learn how to fly themselves. It should come naturally.

I have 2 baby suns just 5-6 weeks old. And the older one can fly at very short distances already.

1 year and not flying at all is a worry. Are its wings clipped?

No, there is nothing wrong with your Sun. This video follows my Conure's transformation, but generally speaking a Sun Conure plumage can develop faster or slower depending on various factors. I usually get emails from Sun Conure parents wondering when their green plumage will come out and if they can make it happen faster (or if there is something wrong with slow plumage bloom), which isn't a problem for your baby. Congrats!

Sun conures are not easy to care for & i advise you to consider it carefully. They require lots of attention and get VERY LOUD if they dont think they are getting it. The best thing to feed is a ballanced pelleted formulae.Its important to give fresh fruit and veg. DO NOT GIVE LETTCUE. Theres lots of info on the internet, but i recomend talking to a breeder. When purchasing your bird make sure s/he has been weened onto a pelleted formulae and was hand raised.Seeds do not provide enough nutrients

Yes, I completely agree. A Sun Conure is a wonderful pet if you can provide the attention they desire (which is considerable). Jupiter is very loud when we are not in sight, so this is not a parrot for apartment living. Being the most educated you can be about this species will help create a loving enviornment with little surprises regarding Conure behavior.

I wouldn't worry, Sun Conures have a 3 year old mentality and energy, they are very curious, and can grow to like new things in time. I would offer veggies anyhow, even if he/she won't consider them now. Allow your bird to watch you eat them, Jupiter is a big sucker for that. If I'm eating it, he wants it too! Continue to have gentle patience with your bird and know that they change like us and with gentle persistance, may come around to love the veggies you lovingly provide. Good luck to you.
