I like how they've done the haka. It's nice. However, it would be much better if they did their own haka from their own country, not use Kapa-o-Pango. As flattering as it is, I think alot of people would prefer it if it was an original, not one used from another country.
Haka is any polynesian challange dance and this one is called Ka mate it is particular to the tribe Ngati Toa and is used by the All Blacks with permission. Any Polynesian country can use a Haka but should create or use one distinct to their own culture and people. This is kappa o pango haka. It's a relatively new haka - only a couple of years old so it actually belongs only to New Zealanders and it really has little to do with "common ancestors".

However, the main point is that the haka used in this clip is Maori, not Hawaiian. The Uni of Hawaii needs to preserve Hawaiian culture, not use the culture of another country.

Haka is any polynesian challange dance and this one is called Ka mate it is particular to the tribe Ngati Toa and is used by the All Blacks with permission. Any Polynesian country can use a Haka but should create or use one distinct to their own culture and people. It saddens me to see our Polynesian older brothers having to talk in a different language about things that means nothing to them. This is kappa o pango haka. It's a relatively new haka - only a couple of years old so it actually belongs only to New Zealanders and it really has little to do with "common ancestors".
BTW, I always hated people copying other people. Haka is something original and personal for Maori people and it has a special meaning for them AND THEM ALONE. I mean, just look at the words of the original haka! They're ridiculous unless you know their background.

They've had plenty of time creating their own culture, language and identity.
If you believe the professors, they say all Polynesians came from Taiwan.
I recently watched a documentary about the natives of Taiwan, a young Maori man went over there and found similarities in the language, especially in numbers. These native Taiwanese folks live in the mountains and funnily enough, look like Polynesians... Who knows!

Actually Kapa o Pango is a combination of a number of haka - as admitted by the composer. He took different parts of already established haka to create a new one for the All Blacks. However, the main point is that the haka used in this clip is Maori, not Hawaiian. The Uni of Hawaii needs to preserve Hawaiian culture, not use the culture of another country.
