Dude i started as a sorter 2 months ago and i love it. Some times i unload and i love that shit too.UPS is the best company to work for if you like being hands on with your work
Are you still @ UPS??? I am a loader, and I would like to say, it is probably as hard as unloading. We move slower, but we also have a mental aspect.... :( Good luck bud!
@thugworlduniversal no they dont drug test. they dont drug test at my hub so i am assuming UPS dosnt do it anywhere else. you can be the biggest stoner and work for them. dont ever come to work with red eyes and smelling like weed. you can get fired for shit like that. they will drug test you if they think you are high on something. some lady at my hub was falsely accused of being stoned. her test came back clean. she sued the company and got like $200,000. good for her.
actually it's easy if you go slower. i unload 1800 pieces an hour.... the salt lake hub got props for their guys doing like 350 an hour or something (I'm out of Nampa, ID right by the Boise hub)... so it's actually very very very hard work if you're busting your ass.
so if you planing on working at ups .. prepare yourself lift some weight, do some push ups and do a little cardio because you will get tired fast is you are not use to it....
Also i hear that unload is the easiest part, sorter is kinda easy too, but loading is were you dont want to be, people says is to fucking hard and complicated. On the other hand the benifits are great, the payment is alright, and is one of the jobs that you can work and at the same time have a life, what i mean is that you dont have to work saturdays, sundays and holidays, like most of other jobs..
im a unloader at ups, the jobs is easy , but sometimes the packages are pretty heavy... before starting to work at ups i was doing a lot of weight training for a year, i guess that help a lot..
I have loaded the trailor and unloaded them. They are both hard. Physically harder is DEFINITLEY unloading but more bullsh!t you have to worry about is loading. Unloading you set the pace and loading you take what comes at you. UPS sucks! I hope i get out of this company evenutally lol
Never become a part time supervisor. it is the worst. i wish i would have never left the union. i can't go back now though. NEVER BECOME A PART TIME SUP IF YOU DON"T PLAN ON BEING A FULL TIME SUP
yeah i wish i would have read this years ago. i've been a pt sup there for five years now and want to kill myself. we're having a hub assessment here next week and i think i'm going to lose my mind. im about to quit and go work at burger king.
He's right. I've been loading for a year and a half and its fucking hard, especially in the heavy areas. It is better than going to the gym. You get in great fucking shape and the benefits package rocks.
Loading SUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKSSSS!! ive only been doing it for 7 months and i get pissed and cuss all the time at work. its not a job for the faint of heart but you will get used to it i guess. i hope to be a part time supervisor sometime in the future
@Redsox250 I disagree.. Loading is great. It depends.. I am very fast- I can do 900-1,000 ,but it usually slows down so I end up doing 700-800 an hour total. They don't have me on rollers though.. I loathe ROLLERS :) Also, I love the new scanners! You no longer have to read the packages at all.
Ive been a loader for about 1 year and 6 months....I load on the most heaviest belt...im talking volume heavy...one of our pick off's are moving, so hes leaving, and im getting promoted to pick off...dollar raise, and more fun position...just got home 30 minutes ago from the warehouse...i was picking off today..i fucking love it..unloading is easy yes, but its a pain, u have to bend lower and more times than u would if ur loading...when ur loading u only have to bend over a little to the rollers
one more comment on the vid - small package sorter is where you want to be..this is actually the easiest 'physical' job at ups unless you move up into management..and its usually where all the cute girls (the smaller more petite ones' start at and stay working at unless they move on to management.
uhh unloader is the easiest physical job at UPS you can get..BELIEVE ME a loader is about 50 times harder..unloading you can go at your own pace...lifting some 30-40 pound weights in your free time will help you plenty enough and make this job super easy. the first month on the job is the worst..after that its cake
and yea its a better workout than the gym..ive lost nearly 80 pounds since 2007
unloading is EASY PEASY dont worry it gets easier and there are WAY harder jobs i been there for 3 years and after a while they let you do easier jobs and let the new fish do the hard work lol. keep ya head up lol
working unloader in UPS isn't that bad, i have been working with UPS for 3 yrs plus and i started as part-timer data entry for 3 months then they promoted me to sorter side for about 6months, after that they push me as unloader for around 1 yr plus and then offer me great paid as a driver, nothing to shy of about ur job dude and now im applyin for working UPS other country and hope i get it
I've been a loader for almost 4 years. It's been hell. I've had back problems, shoulder problems, I smashed my thumb once, the nail turned black and fell off. One of my belt supervisors threw a package and hit me in the head. I got a concussion and my glasses got bent up. The summers are so hot and the winters are freezing cold. It's a very tough job, but you can take advantage of the benefits and the earn and learn program. Hopefully, I can quit working there in a year.
i loaded for only a year, i was on the brink of quitting/walking out every day that year because we dealt with so much bullshit (ppl calling in sick but never getting fired since they were with the union) do all you can do to get a different position..loading sucks hardcore
Somebody said that working at UPS is like being paid to workout. That's exactly how I feel. Also, they quickly promote guys from the belt...IF you're good at your job, that is.
I work at UPS as a loader. I typically load Ohio and Florida trailers in the twilight shift for 3-4 hours a night. I lost nearly 30 pounds since I started working there. Good job for benefits as opposed to pay.
My favorite position is pick off, just know the sort for the belt know what to dead chute and ur good to go. No hasstles about getting misloads and all that crap. Only downfall is not being included in the monthy prizes for top scans and fewest misloads, but idc. Ive only unloaded a couples times because im too good to continue doing that, its the easiest position in the building. Keep ur head up UPS isnt that bad.
Sorry guys but i been working at UPS for about almost a year now in south florida. I was hired as a loader, and I have done everything from loading, wall sweep. Yes unloading is easier then loading but i wouldnt say loading is hard. If you know your sort and you taught your self to load at a brisk pace and you can build nice walls. Its very easy. If you work at UPS and your a loader, trust me just keep at it and ull get really good. Im the best loader on my belt.
your right unload is pretty brain less work but it is dangerious. loading package cars totally sucks ass. i did it for over 6 yrs and i so got tired of it after awhile.
good money you say? You're such a joker :p Been there for over 4 years and only make 12.87 as a loader. Definitely going to school now to get my ass out of that hell hole.
When I started I was the same, first full truck almost destroyed my back. Then they put me on bags then onto preloading. Suddenly I went back to unloading, and it was a piece of cake now that I had more strength, etc. Lol and I have the body of 15 yr old, but I'm really over 20 =d
I applied for a job as driver and got it, but i came as a driver from dhl, think you have to 2 years minimum before you can come from the sort shift to driving though
Loaders just wait for packages to come down the slides and play Tetris all day. You don't have to worry about finishing a number of trucks by the end of the day.
I think Sorting is the easiest from what I've heard. They have heaters for winter and fans for summer. Worth the dollar raise. Saves your back too
LOading has alot of stress cuz you have to load the pkgs as fast as they come down. I agreed with you that at times you have to wait but then the shit starts coming and you have Sups yelling to speed it up so the belt doesnt jam. I know how to lift packages and I've never used my back. Most ppl don't know what they're doing. I was in Sorting for a couple wks and it can be the easiest position but in the beginning it is kinda tough cuz you're constantly moving.
actually bagging is the easiest position cause its light packages your holding so to me the hardest positions is unloading and sorting.....i kno cause i did both
i have had the worst experience EVER with UPS... i HATE them... first of all they were supposed to deliver something to me, a week ago. and today i finally thought they were going to bring it to me when i received an e-mail stating that they delivered it somewhere else in a freakin different city!! wtf? im soo pissed...
