i really wish all railroads would run their whole operations loading spotting groundman raising hitches inspecting cars working on trailers or chassis ill probably die working on the railroad but willl never get railroad pay or benefits

When Northern Natural was building a coal slurry pipeline to compete with the coal hauling railroads, UP and other conspired to impede their efforts. NNG sued and won a large settlement. The BN made a hostile takeover bid for the holding company that owned NNG and later was known as ENRON. Irwin Jacobs of Minneapolis, Irv the Liquidator, was their agent.

I worked on a project in 1985 for the BN and Northern Natural Gas to test converting and running locomotives on natural gas. It was wildly successful. More efficient, cleaner and less maintenance. The NNG pipeline ran parallel to the BN right of way. Warren Buffett bought NNG away from ENRON when ENRON collapsed. NNG was the ONLY part of ENRON that ever really made money. With Buffett now owning BOTH companies this may give him a significant competitive advantage over RR's like the UP.
