  • heavyweight boxing at its purest

  • Nice

  • Smoking Bert still fights. I have the same coach as Bert.

  • Both men lost 50IQ points in the 1st round

  • bert tried to pull a mike tyson at 3:09

  • As amazing his offense Cooper had, his defense was just as bad.

  • actually, Moorer is from Monessen, near Pittsburgh....

  • great upload!!! never saw this battle. what a first round!!!! my knees started buckling! :)

  • I could take these guys.

  • @JohnQRandom lol

  • that is a fat referee.

  • funny now the heavyweights dont fight like this ... now we have the klitschko's who ..JAB, JAB, JAB, HOLD AND SCARED TO PULL THE TRIGGER... i say this michael moorer from 1992 could KO wladimir klitschko..

  • Has there ever been a kronk fighter that didnt have power!

  • boring fight !! ruiz - values was much better !

  • @quadcatfly

    Hahahahaha ! Good one !

  • what a fucking 1st rd..

  • I remember when Bert Cooper boxed for Lenny Shaw in Patterson NJ and liked to watch Soap Operas

  • This was an awesome fight,,, I remember watching it live

  • What a fight

  • Did you guys hear that cow mooing at the being or am I fuckin' crazy?

Let me guess, I'm fuckin' crazy.

    LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLet's get ready to rumble!!!!!

  • Did you guys hear that cow mooing at the being or am I fuckin' crazy?

Let me guess, I'm fuckin' crazy.

  • Bert Cooper is a great fighter, and had great potential but drug addiction ruined him.

  • Mills Lane saved Evander's ass against Smokin' Bert...

  • @arkansoul

Based on what? Holyfield was dropped and in trouble and rallied. How was he 'saved'? He had to fight back

  • @cbaldwinjr Based on Mills Lane jumping in and giving Evander a standing 8 count before he was actually down. Holyfield did fight back and did land the most uppercuts I've EVER seen in a fight, but I just think that if Cooper could've floored him, he wouldn't have been able to recover.

  • @arkansoul

You do realize that's why its called a STANDING 8 count right? You don't have to go down for it to be enforced. Holyfield was on his way down anyway...Cooper got his knockdown but Holyfield recovered. To say Mills Lane saved him is way off base.

  • @cbaldwinjr I felt that since it was a title fight, let the chips fall. I still say Cooper was gonna have that boy if Mills Lane hadn't stepped in. I have to watch it again so I can "know" what I saw.

  • I like the fact that both of these guys were KO'd by a 40 year old man

  • @muclesmarinara Bert didn't answer the bell with Foreman. He didn't really come to fight there.

  • @capablemachine That's his problem. That is fucking embarrasing too. Before the fight,Cooper was saying "George is too slow." Very funny. Then after two rounds with an old man...he quit. Foreman was so amazing.

  • @muclesmarinara lol yeah

  • Always like a good slugfest. Moorer had a lot of entertaining fights in his prime.

  • Whats with the pro moorer ref? in round one he appears to break the fighters BEFORE Moorer goes down almost like he was stepping in to stop the fight, then moorer goes down and the ref decides to give him a count...... looked dodgy to me. Then when Cooper goes down he ref wouldn't even let Cooper have a couple of seconds to put his gum sheild in.......it stinks.

  • The Smoke is no Joke!

  • I love Bert Cooper. He didn't have the best defense or ability to take a beating for long but he sure never ducked a fight and he was never afraid of anyone. Too bad we don't have exciting heavyweight eliminator fights like these anymore :(

  • What a crowd pleaser:)

  • Bert Cooper is one of the most underrated fighters ever

  • wow, Cooper is a guarantee for action, that s for sure!

  • What a first round!!! What a fight....I forgot how good this fight was. This was true heavyweight action!!

  • moorers old school educated defense keeping him in this fight. keeping calm under onslaught, not wasting energy. quality...awesome battle. of the very best

  • This was a GREAT heavyweight fight! I remember watching it live! So friggin action packed!!!

  • Bert was a very good cruiserweight but only good against heavies about his size. The taller his opponents were, the worse he was.

  • wow cant believe i haven't heard of this fight

has to be one of the most exciting heavyweight fights ive seen

  • "Bert Cooper is the only fighter out there who can come off of a Loss and say he's had a Career rejuvination."

  • they came to watch you fight, not me refereeing, hehehehe...best pep talk...

  • sorry it was title but in this time WBO wasnt one of the big belt

  • one of the best not title fight what i ever seen

  • Is it just me or did Moorer look a little...tubby? His torso is not as well toned as it was against Holyfield and later fights. Perhaps thats why Cooper was able to get to him as much.

  • @Jorsalfar Holyfield he was 214 so maybe he just lost definition.

  • @Jorsalfar Well Moorer was never the most muscular or cut looking fighter..he always had a soft look about his body

  • @tom11zz884 not guna argue that one hah... but so did big george foreman in the 90's... but then again big george was in his 40's ha

  • thanks for uploading this fight..awesome!

  • i personally think the 70s are the best but the 90s are real tough for sure damn

  • Shame no-one talks about Cooper so much anymore; he got in there and mixed it up with the best of the day, except for the rapist of course.

  • ike ibeabuchi was'nt around in Coopers day!

  • Bowe, Holyfield, Lewis, Tyson, Moorer, Foreman. This was a good era. Pinklon, Bonecrusher, Tubbs and Berbick were jokes!! Would have been trashed by either of the fighters I mentioned above them. Thats why Tyson was a success because he only had those ones to contend with.

  • oh ,i forgot to mention razor ruddock and tubbs, witherspoon and trevor berbick.. the golden era i`m sure..

  • this was the true era.. moorer, pinklon thomas, bonecrusher smith, mitch blood, tyson, spinks, holmes (although past his best i think he could beat any of the donkeys today). these days we got east european plodders.. my god, take me back in time..gimme a time machine..who agrees?? who disagrees,go fuck yourselves,i`m right!!

  • My Gosh, they were unanswered punches when Moorer went down..the fight should have been stopped. It should have never even went to the second round. Moorer slumped to the canvas with unwanswered punches. Poor Bert Cooper. Always within a few inches from success.

  • I can't believe they want moorer to fight kimbo hahaha. Moorer would smash him inside of a minute!!!

  • This was a good fight.

  • Krunk fighters fight very similar

  • 2 of my most exciting heavyweights of that era. The heavyweight division was amazing back then. Really miss the days of these guys and Razor Ruddock. Come on Bert put some fire back into the division!!!

  • bert cooper returns in afew months after 7 years off

  • One of the better heavyweight fights you'll see

  • I'd call that an understatement! This is one of the most exciting heavyweight fights of all-time...its notoriety suffers due to the fact that neither Cooper nor Moorer were big names, but if you put that aside and judge the fight on its own merits, this is a classic from start to finish.

If anyone doubts that, just compare the first round of this fight to Round 1 of Hagler-Hearns (regularly called the best first round of all-time)...Moorer-Cooper more than holds its own!

  • bert cooper was a hell of a fighter so was tony tucker but they never get credit tony tucker being the one who should have gotten alot more than people gave him

  • You can blame Cooper for that. He had bad training habits, abusing drugs, and a bit yellow at times. He quite against Reggie Gross early in his career cause Gross fought back.. But when focused Cooper put on excellent performances.. Tilman at Cruiser, Moorer at heavy. Cooper would have been Cruiser champ after Holyfield moved to heavy. If he stayed focus and trained properly.

  • Good and interesting fight, toe to toe!

  • Moorer should have been TKO'd at the first knock down.

  • obviously not since he wasnt out on his feet and continue , what are you on about.

  • you're correct, dude...poor Cooper never could catch a break.

Those were unanswered punched, Moorer slumped to the canvas like there was no life in him. This fight should've been waived off right there. Cooper got screwed out of a well deserved victory.

  • Yes. The ref stepped in right before Moorer fell. But the ref felt the ropes kept more up, which is considered a knockdown, so the ref started to count. Never liked that rule.. More of a what if scenero.. Samething with Bert and Holyfield.

  • @biggerflexible no he shouldnt becose he got up and continued fighting and won, there is no reason to stop the fight if the fighter still has a shot of winning a fight, if referees would allways stop the fight like you sed then there would be no great fights or comebacks and there would be allways a lot of conterversial bullshit. like when mike tyson knocked down buster douglas´, I think douglas didnt get up soon enough, but referee gave him a change and he knocked the shit out of tyson

  • bert cooper had a iron chin

  • This was Cooper at his best.

  • that referee is an idiot...

  • you missed the word 'obese' out

  • Comment removed

  • is moorer a natural southpaw?

i think the punches coming from his right hand are way more powerful than those coming from the left...

  • well spotted. he was indeed switched around by an early trainer !!

  • has to be one of the most brutal rds I've ever seen,HELLACIOUS!

  • Bert Cooper was such a entertaining fighter and in my opinion one of the best "left hooks" in the fight game. It is such a shame that he was very lazy about his conditioning and his training. He could've been one of the heavyweights.

  • Got more money and perks as a Tyson sparring partner.

  • Respect to both fighters, but especially to Bert Cooper, what a heart he has!

  • lol at saying this fight should have been stopped. moorer completely had his legs under him and wasnt really hurt at all. if it was stopped it would of been a very bad call. as u ca seee moorer came back and koed bert in the same round and won the fight. glad ur not a ref jrxexreigns. u do know people can take knees dont u?

  • That is your opinion...you can't prove anything. Hey tough guy...those were unanswered punches, and the poor bastard nearly fell outta the ring. The fight should've been stopped right there and then. That's just my opinion. Yours is a little sadist...wouldn't ya think? He did anythingbut "take a knee", dude, c'mon. Glad you're not a referee. Thanks for the post though. Peace.

  • i dont have to prove anything. michael moorer did it himself.

  • Dude, I forgot about my comment ....amonth ago, but guess what? You didn't! Maybe you should take up Yoga, and calm down. I just asserted my opinion...peace

  • Cooper had monster offense but really poor defense. It got him into fights and out of fights. Exciting fighter.

  • can someone find the Cooper Dewitt fight and post it??? It was great..... I've never seen a fight er get the sh%t kicked out of him as bad as Dewitt did that night!

-THX if you can find it.

  • Wow do I remember this fight, we were laughing, neither guy can miss!!!

  • when ur mouth piece is out u cnt fight ur bst coz ur scare of ur teeth gettin knocked out...da ref shuld had jus put it bck in straight away

  • Wow this ref was piss poor, i hope he didnt officiate too many big fights. He seems like a soccer ref..

  • Cooper was robbed, fight should've been waived off with that knockdown of Moorer. Bad officiating by this referee. Those were UNANSWERED punches, and Moorer nearly fell out of the ring. Poor Cooper, never could catch a break. Fight should've been stopped right there and then.

  • You nailed it...Cooper was pummeling the hell out of him then the long count Cooper was a great slugger and he was always underrated. He was exciting as hell to watch.

  • wow moorer's first knockdown on cooper, moorer ABSOLUTELY leveled cooper. great fight.

  • This was one of Moorer's finest performances. Despite the two knockdowns. Hey, its Bert Cooper we are talking about! The first man who knocked down Holyfield.

  • Cooper looked funny each time he went down, like a sack or a big can, lol.

  • Cheers ptldjk, At least they "boxed" properly then eh?! heavyweights now just plod! =(

  • so very truth:( It's amazing how badly this division declined

  • Cooper was a powerful Mutha, no doubt

  • He also had a big reach for his height.

  • Lot of people having a go at moorer here & i understand that as his performances were patchy BUT give the bloke a break! THIS was one of the BEST fights EVER!!!! both guys went down, went toe to toe & gave everything! I, personally, couldnt call eith a "bum" & you people slating should enjoy 1 of the best fights around!

  • Great comment!!!!

  • Cooper was always dangerous with his power who ever he faced...

  • Smoke'in Bert Cooper was an exciting fighter who upset many upcoming fighters. Opponents could never take him lightly since all it took was one punch from him to get them in trouble like Moorer found out. I met Bert Cooper at an exhibition tournament in my hometown. Really nice guy!

  • watchin dis makes me wanna cry. wer the fuck are heavyweights like that nowadays. no listons foremans marcianos tysons or evan dudes like tua. that school is closed down all we got is robots like shitsko

  • Thanks for sharing Sarge. Bert's problem was he's always been an under achiever... hardly ever put the effort in the gym before a fight. Oh well.

  • Cooper had pretty good offense, but shit defense.

  • @KTF0:

That's what I always thought. If Cooper could protect his head the way that Dwight Qawi did, then he'd have won somebody's title.

  • both are great boxers but were defeted by old foreman!

  • Great boxers ??? LOL that 2 guys are bums!!! Cooper was exciting and suprising with his power and had very bad boxing skills as for Moorer we know him already very well... His 1 of the worst champs of 90s!!! I still cant imagine how Moorer win over Holyfield??? May Holyfield was that day new back from sickness!!!

  • moorer was sparring partner of tyson and was able in training several time knock off tyson!so after tyson went to prison he was number 1! after he lose to foreman he was never able to find such a form in what he was while training with tyson.

  • To traing with Tyson means notting... McCall trained with Tyson too but his just a avarage boxer like Moorer!!! Lewis KO Tyson too in training in 1984!!!

  • bambataa u don't know yur history lewis ko tyson in training back in 84 dats bull its the other way round tyson knocked lewis out of the ring and lewis wanted no part of him even after that. They met in 2002 lewis sed tyson in his prime was unstoppable and he should know

  • True but Lewis was that time still a 19 years old,190 pounds teenager and was still a amateur boxer as Tyson was getting prepared to step pro boxing! There is a huge different!!! Lewis always wanted fight Tyson in middle of 90s but Tyson never accepted!!! Cause middle of 90s was Lewis prime. Tyson wait to pass Lewis prime so may he could land a lucky punch like Rahman did.

  • Michael Moorer was FAR from a bum. His only downfall was the worst flaw in boxing, CHIN. If he had had a chin, there is no telling how far he(Moorer) couldve gone in the sport

  • I mean Moorer was a bum against the top guys in 90s!!! He was very far away been a 1.class boxer either. In my option his noting more then a 2.class boxer just like Botha,Grant or Morrison!!!

  • both are great boxers but were defeted by old foreman!

  • The first round is awesome! One of the best in heavyweight division.

Up to this fight Micheal was very competetive but he never became the same confident boxer after the fight in my opinion. He lost in confidence.

  • nahhh it was after the Alex Stewart fight..he got dropped but came back to Ko Stewart he began to fight a lil more cautiously however when he fought Cooper they brought out the best in each other..with MM taking the win by KO..but yeah this was a exciting fight start to finish

  • Moorer and confidence: remember Moorer started off at Light Heavy, and was a KO artist. Went through guys like they were nothing. When he moved up to Heavy though, things started getting harder and guys started hurting him back much more. I think that shook him because all at once his ring style and general attitude totally changed.

Something changed in him after he started having those hard fights.

  • His confidence changed because he started to lose all of his money, and he wouldn't ever listen to anybody. He was always great and he beat people like crazy up until David Tau. After George he really only fought for the money, and he never got in shape thats why he lodt to David Tau in 30 sec.

  • Moorer was honestly 1 of the worst champions from 90s!!! Who have a diffcult time VS a 3.class boxer like Axel Schultz as his a bum man!!!

  • Yeah, Sports Guy brought me here too. I tell ya, he's the best sports columnist EVER. He got me hooked to The Wire too. Kudos to Bill Simmons.

  • thanks for posting, sarge!

  • Sports Guy brought me here. Kellerman was right. This is a GREAT hidden gem of a fight.

  • Yes, you heard it too! Kellerman is right!

  • you both kiss killerman ass.... its not hidden!!

  • god this was a great fight this is why THEY NEED A HVYWGHT AND THEN A SUPERHVYWHT DIDVISION IN PRO BOXING LLIKE IN THE OLYMPICS!!!bert cooper shudda been a world champ but had to fight guys bigger and taller n so on

  • You're wrong mayanda. Tyson retired with 22 first round kos while Tua has only accumulated 16.

  • who the fuck was that ref?

  • no kidding... that guy could be responsible for terrible medical repercussions.

  • i hope that fat cunt of a ref was fired after this fight!! why did he leave it so long to put his piece back in?

  • I loved Moorer as a fighter but his chin was suspect to say the least.

  • He was knocked down by huge knockout fighters. I would call his chin normal... People consider him weak because of David Tua knocking him out in the first round but uhm... Tua has more first round knockouts than even Mike Tyson.

  • bert cooper was my favorite fighter because he was like a heel in pro wrestling when he start getting his ass kick he would quit lol.

  • holy shit what a fight!

  • 'hes out' haha
