Hockey is one of the most intense and physical sport existing, and is played by real men, so it happen sometimes that adrenaline is just too high and there's this guy who just stirs you up, then bang you need to correct him ! 99% of the fighters in the nhl are candian all the best fighters are candian so im proud to say i am one and its used as a momentum boost or there pissed at each other and they obviously said stuuf to eachother before it broke out they dont just break out and start fighting

im from london and i never watched Ice Hockey, but i dont understand why the Ref didnt stop the fight when it 1st started? can someone explain? lol dont get me wrong, i love to fight and to watch fights but this is jus confusing.

The refs are taught to stand back and let the fight play out. This is for their own saftey. Fighting has been in hockey as long as the game existed and there are unwritten rules that play out, such as once you hit the ice the fight is over. The only instance when the officials would step in on a fight is if there was an all out bench clearing brawl... those are fun.

referees are trained not to break up fights until one man is in a weaker position a la boxing. If a referee went in to stop the fight he might cause himself or the fighter he stopped to be injured. It's really very simple

Dude you know a good amount of fights in the NHL are planned right? Many players in the NHL are familiar with eachother or befriend in some way. Still fun to watch though. They plan to drop the gloves.. and then they like to make a match. Of course some fights are like out of pure hatred.

What do you mean planned? The don't sit down before the NHL year starts and draft out who is fighting who. It is all about momentum and using fighting as a tool. If your team is down and the other team is carrying the momentum, you send out your tough players to fight to try and win back some momentum... thats as planned as they get.
