OSS! iMucho Respecto! Estoy estudiando Kanku Dai, y megusta mucho la Kata. Su video tiene mucho que quiero conocer. Yo pienso que no tienin el Bunkai origional pero yo creo que ustedes tiened el espiroto.
This was a very refreshing approach to this kata's bunkai and I like it. Some of what is shown seems useful, while others may not be workable. Regardless, those demonstrating are very fit and athletic guys with a lot of energy.
As for the guy who keeps knocking Japanese Karate, quit watching these videos or you will have an ulcer!
felicitaciones eso es lo que busque en mi ciudad natal en gimnacios de shotokan y nadie lo impartio se olvidan de los origenes del karate que esto que miramos es parte fundamental de el y no solo competencias de puntos
@ShowYourWorking 46 years of studying what karate was to the Okinawans. In depth knowledge regarding why kata were developed. A dislike for those that call a kicking and punching sport karate when it clearly was and is a martial art of a unique island people. Isn't it a shame that the "keeper of karate's highest tradition" doesn't even practice karate? I am amazed at the number of self deluded people I see on YouTube and in the west in general.

This boxing technique is very incredibles. But that's a very small boxing ring with the blue carpets. It would be better if next time you used a bigger rings for your olympic trainings.
How does this guy keep students? He has no control. He keeps hitting them and shows very little control or technique. No hips doing the kata never mind the Bunkai.
Hi skater15153, i am barnstormer247. I want you to watch scorch13xx so funny. Hope you dont train like that. Best thing is the girl in jeans has no idea she is on you tube. She is know going to mark the other one.... But she is in a queue. Most of us insrtuctors are out to get her. PLEASE POST COMMENT ON CheekyMale08. This will be most greatfuly recieved.
ma gustao mucho el bunkai pq la mayoria d bunkais q veo, no tienen, a mi parecer, nada en comun con la defensa en el mundo real, pero el tuyo esta muy bien.
very good bunkai, but the first technic in the kata is to fast,(watch to the sun)to short or must spend more time for the technic. bunkai is top!. thx
wow...those bunkai looked almost nothing like the actual kata. Please explain when in kanku-dai do you end up in a rolling position on the floor, since nearly every one of your explanations involved this.
I think that this kind of training must be do by all students, thats the reason because karate is not atractive as other martial arts. I think karate is one of the best self defense martial arts... but only if bunkai is trained like is done in kempo for example.
it is excellent. there are three or so other videos by different instructors of bunkai for this kata, and all show different applications. that is what is so great about shotokan , because you can interpret the kata in many ways. i would like to train with this caliber of people.
Good oyo on Kanku Dai. I agree that many Shotokan clubs do not teach applications at this level. I was not taught any of these even through to Black belt. It was after that I learned to analyse kata and understand possible applications. Since setting up our own group in 2002 we have made sure that right from 10kyu we teach the principles and applications for each karate technique and kata set. We use common acts of violence as the starting point for bunkai and oyo. Good video I enjoyed it.
You're right. Excuse me my misunderstanding of your words. Such techniques are only for advanced students, but have to be learned to get the full experience of Karate.
Shotokan? No, you won't see it much unless they have studied the above mentioned Ma and applied it to their kata. The same can be said for a lot of modern karate, regardless of their kata style.
I know that Shotokan does this stuff. That's what I've been saying. It's just not as common in the lower levels, just like in any style. As I said, my brother did this stuff in Shotokan as an advanced student. My style is made up of Shotokan, Shito-Ryu, and Goju-Ryu. We do some this stuff, too, but it is usually the more advanced students. That's what I'm saying, not that Shotokan doesn't do it.
This man has definitively studied, Jujutsu, Judo or Aikido. Yug gichi gai, kata guruma, ude garame, ashi morte nage...how frequently do we see the average Shotokan karateka executing these techniques.
In Shotokan, not too frequently, but in Goju Ryu you'll see this more. People like Sensei Chinen and Sensei McCarthy do a lot of this kind of stuff (joint locks, throws, takedowns, ect). A lot of throwing, joint locking, pressure points, techniques are found in traditional karate. They had to be, since they were often fighting the Japanese Samuris who did jiu jitsu.
Not true with your statement about Shotokan. We do such kind of things on Shotokan trainings very often with the advanced students. It is kata application, it helps to understand what kata mean - kata is like a poem, you can't just learn it, you have to understand and show your interpretation. There is no kata without interpretation. And it is Shotokan dude at this movie.
Oh, I know Shotokan does it. I guess I didn't say it the right way. What I meant was that the average student doesn't do it. It's mostly, like you said, the advanced students. My brother trained in Shotokan, so I know that he did some of this stuff as an advanced student.
good work, but it's is so fast to see and understanding the moviments
