I thought Hurt Locker was a great movie. While the Oscars were going on, I was cheering for Up because I hadn't seen Hurt Locker yet, and I think it would be great to have a children's movie win Best Picture one of these days. I saw Hurt Locker literally the day after the Oscars and I think it deserves its Oscar Win hands down. But then again, I was just happy that Avatar did NOT win. I agree that it was a brilliant movie visually, but story wise... I've seen it too many times before.
Nine should've won, but since it wasn't nominated (after the Blind Side & District 9 WTF?), Up in the Air should win. Basterds, Avatar, Up, & A Serious Man are my second set of choices.

First of all, if you havent seen all of these movies then you have NO room to say which one is the best. I have seen all of them and I believe that Avatar is a classic that will go down in history with movies like Titanic. I have seen it 14 times, 10 in IMAX :)

In my opinion the Oscar for the best picture should be given to the best international picture and not to the most popular Hollywood picture to please the mindless masses. i personally loved precious far more than any of the other movies this year. where avatar and district 9 were amazing and also new favorites of mine, the plots were very predictable. precious tells a fresh new story triumph and overcoming obstacles... my vote would be for precious.

@jason12794 Actually I enjoyed Avatar quite much. Is it predictable? Yes. But in a good way. I feel that the movie was more of a reminder of how the Native Americans suffered as their land was striped from them all for the purpose of a raw material of great monetary value. Plot line is important but you have to look at the underline theme of the movie as well, otherwise you are ignoring a vital aspect of the film and seem kind of ignorant.

I watched Avatar for the first time yesterday, and have to say enjoyed it over the Hurt-locker. However, I have to admit that hurt locker is the more important work. Avatar is the worst movie nominated. The horrible acting, terrible writing (unobtanium speaks for itself), and recycled plot are too bad for the special effects to outweigh it. I didn't even care about the main character by the end, I just wanted them to skip to the fighting and end so that I could go home. Avatar better win. After coming out of the theater speechless, I came to the conclusion that it was undoubtedley the best movie I have ever seen. I just don't see how the movie that made the most money EVER, not just this year, could lose. As for all the people that say Avatar isn't worthy because of it's "lack of acting," know this, an amazing movie isn't only about the quality of the actors performance. @envyofuall: i get what you mean by the plot is that. but it should not be the best movie of the year, and not even close to the best movie of the era that someone wrote. the plot is just like pocahontas, good movie-yes, oscar worthy for best picture-no, that goes to the hurt locker or inglourios basterds. those storylines are SO MUCH more compelling than avatar

mmhmm its hard to decide, while avatar was highly succeful i enjoyed district 9 more and its has a much better storyline, but then again sci-fci usually doesnt win, up in the air was good as was precious , education was, meh okay i guess , a good movie but not really oscar material i would say and ing. basterds while lots of fun i wouldnt give it the gold, "Up" wasnt that good for a pixar movie,

i personally loved precious far more than any of the other movies this year. where avatar and district 9 were amazing and also new favorites of mine, the plots were very predictable. precious tells a fresh new story triumph and overcoming obstacles... my vote would be for precious.

@jason12794 Actually I enjoyed Avatar quite much. Is it predictable? Yes. But in a good way. I feel that the movie was more of a reminder of how the Native Americans suffered as their land was striped from them all for the purpose of a raw material of great monetary value. Plot line is important but you have to look at the underline theme of the movie as well, otherwise you are ignoring a vital aspect of the film and seem kind of ignorant.

I hope hurt locker wins. Avatard sucked in every aspect other than innovative 3D. I could tell precisely who is going to kill who, who dies at the end and who wins after 5 minutes of watching. Horrible and dull story line, seriously when i was in 3rd grade i enjoyed Pocahontas waaay more.

I watched Avatar for the first time yesterday, and have to say enjoyed it over the Hurt-locker. However, I have to admit that hurt locker is the more important work. Avatar could have been envisioned by 10, 15,20 and of course 21st century man. It is the tale of man's destruction. It could have been produced at any time in history if the technology was available. Hurt locker is the document of this decades bloddiest war; only we could make it;

no they dont have that category, but the acting was really really good, its all based on performance, but i think that the people that james cameron chose were carefully sorted, in saying that im just basing it on the perfomance of the actors, and i am really banking on either District9 or Avatar to win, because the performances were really good.

Yes they do, it's called Best Visual Effects. And the cast of avatar was decent, but the poorest performance had to be Sam Worthingtons which considering he's the main role, is pretty sad. Avatar was good, but had it's flaws. Other Nominees had less. And What's this about District 9???, sure it was good but it doesn't have a chance in hell.

@snorreproductions I never said Avatar was the least bit original; In fact, it's probably the least original film I've ever seen. And believe me, I would take District 9 over that. Okay, I guess it was a little original when you compare it to Avatar, but in terms of both message and story, they both ripped of a lot of movies. But if I really had to vote, I would stick with District 9. Either that or Basterds. Both movies decided to at least put story above special effects.

Avatar is the worst movie nominated. The horrible acting, terrible writing (unobtanium speaks for itself), and recycled plot are too bad for the special effects to outweigh it. I didn't even care about the main character by the end, I just wanted them to skip to the fighting and end so that I could go home. The reason why it made so much money is because people like special effects (Transformers 2 made a lot but it was shit). If you thought that Avatar was the best movie ever, you are stupid.

All these movies were good i thought! except the blind side I didnt see that one. I think Avatar deserves the gold to b honest though. Sum pple say that the story isnt that great but it was more about the look & feel of the movie. & quite frankly i thought the story was decent. The real reason the film deserves it is bcause James Cameron has been working on this film for 14 yrs! It was supposed to be realesed after titanic in 1999. Has anyone ever imagined how hard a film this was 2 direct?

Avatar better win. After coming out of the theater speechless, I came to the conclusion that it was undoubtedley the best movie I have ever seen. I just don't see how the movie that made the most money EVER, not just this year, could lose. As for all the people that say Avatar isn't worthy because of it's "lack of acting," know this, an amazing movie isn't only about the quality of the actors performance. Name one other thing as awe-inspiring as Pandora and its inhabitants.

honestly i wouldn't like avatar to win the best picture, because if avatar won that, it gives me to understand that people are looking for the same violence, the same fights of all times we can watch in TV or other movies. But i like very much Precious, Up in the air, or UP (my favorite, with precious) to win the best picture. It means that people are looking for some changes in nowadays society, personal overcoming, etc. I know some of you don't agree with me, but it's my opinion.
