The controls are so choppy, the sound of Mario walking is herendous and you die if you touch some of the gurters. Mario also jumps like he has bricks in his pockets.
Did you know that Mario is actually the villain in this game? It says in the manual that D.K. was actually Mario's pet, who was mistreated. And also, in Donkey Kong Junior, you get a slight cameo of D.K. in a cage, and Mario beside it, holding a whip.
Found my dad's NES in the garage. We played this, he went first. I think he went 6 or 7 levels before he died. I was like cool it must be easy. I got killed by the second barrel. I never made it past level one but my dad, who hadn't even seen the game in over 20 years made it through 11 levels! I feel ashamed.
@Banaerz Not sure maybe game b is harder but if you play on game A and get to stage 4 it gets intense just like the arcade. Can't imagine the later levels being any harder.
@SONIC2620081981 Don't know about that. Nintendo was sued for the Kong character being too similar to king kong but lost because they didn't have the rights to King Kong. They had to win a case where they proved that King Kong was public domain to make the 70's movie. With the winnings nintendo was able to release the famicom (japanese nes) a year later in july of 1983.
glad I ain't wearing marios shoes, it would do my head in if everytime I stepped it made a stupid bloody noise. You could never sneak up on anyone either haha
Old school games had Soul, but these new games are without Soul. Today in gaming industry everything is about money and not about good and quality games...

i heard it wasn't called nor jumpman neither mario or mario bros. and also i dont remember his name but is a name about like a constructor man that's why he can also use a hammer like bonus or like the blue circle in pacman
but not jumpman or mario
the name mario comes from the name of the guy who rent the work building where shigeru and his workers where working
its sad that nintendo ported donkey kong poorly to the console market, the arcade version have more levels and is a lot harder, where the nes version is pretty easy
The GB version has less floors in the first level, the NES/Arcade version has 6, the GB version only has 4. The spring level has more platforms in the NES version. I could never beat the first level in the Arcade version, but with the added tricks, the GB version of it is a piece of cake. Backflip, backflip, backflip, done. Most of those moves reappeared in Mario 64.
I wonder why this version didn't have all four levels. This was clearly the best as far as imitating the arcade. The NES could've handled it (from looking at longer games) as opposed to imitating the Colecovision/Atari versions of having three due to memory limitations.
Great game but ugh, I hated the fact that there were only 3 short and relatively easy levels to this..
I marked out like a bitch when I saw that this was playable on Donkey Kong 64 off the arcade game in the factory room though, brought back alotta memories.
yeah, only three, but that's still good for a console version considering that Atari Coleco and Mattel had only two. the Graphics amd sound are the best for the console ports as well.
@vanellawii That's because they're pure. They use what were superb graphics at the time to give you massive amounts of gameplay. That's also the novelty of being an arcade game. Once you mastered it you could play for hours and hours and hours.

The NES version doesn't seem to have the level to level transition of DK carrying Pauline up the ladder.
Supercharge87 4 months ago
What they should do is Donkey Kong the movie.
Samuel L. Jackson as Jumpman
Nicholas Cage as Mario
Cher as Pauline
Chuck Norris as Donkey Kong
and Hank Azaria as the Hammer.
I hope some movie studio sees this comment and says: "This movie will be GOLD!"
