@curseoftheArkhamdmon Lol you really think Im an emo/scene kid? Honestly there are few groups of people who annoy me more. Calm the fuck down, it was a fucking joke. I'm fully aware of how influential this movie is, I think it's a great film. You're the one who's freaking out of some youtube comment and writing out lengthy insults to a stranger on the internet you know nothing about. I'd say you're the one who needs to grow up.
My German teacher showed us this movie today. Its pretty cool...yet for some people kinda confusing. I understand it somewhat. Anyways...thanks for uploading this. Its really neat. :)
I love the openeing credits to this English version, they look so original and 1930's like (even though the film was made in 1919/1920) Thanks for putting this up!
That Cesare guy reminds me of Edward Scissorhands! XD Also I love how everthing in the movie looks so distorted, it reminds me of a Tim Burton movie. :D Did he get his ideas from this movie?
I just re- watched this classic silent with the haunting soundtrack by In the Nursery last saturday @ Portobello film fest. It was awesome! checke their stuff here on youtube.
We have a movies and meaning class at my school and they showed this movie to us. Very creepy. Especially when you just forget about the movies you've seen today and put yourself in the time when this movie first came out. It's brilliant.
@kannibaleaushass haha true Not a straight line in that movie..I can prove it though! Look at 29.04 and there he is Ready for action SO maybe the artists of this movie actually could predict the future...oooo
the version i watched had a lot creepier and more horror like msuci in the background that made it legitimately creepy, why is this version different?
@Qweeftastic Well, being a silent movie, you can add just about any type of music you want to it. I saw Nosferatu once with rock music for background music once in the back and again with classical sounding 'creepy' music. I have to admit, the rock sounding one was te best. Just depends who gets it and rereleases it I guess. I'd like to see the one you saw!
i have always found this score to be so campy and detracting from the emotion of the film. i've heard others which were more fitting, but i made my own accompanying soundtrack/playlist using various trip-hop and instrumental tracks which oddly (and wonderfully) syncs up VERY well with the action. message me if interested in it!
@MackerelCat here's an article i wrote about it a few years ago. some of the songs are difficult to find, but if you manage to find them all, put them in this order on a playlist with anywhere from a 1-2 second crossfade between. coincidentally, i'm also working on a metropolis playlist!
@jack00008 I agree, For me the best score for Caligari is the one you can find on the 2002 Kino Video DVD with a violin score similar to Bernard Herriman's score for Psycho in the shower scene in that it's unnerving and it really ratches up the intensity level far more than this score does.
@MackerelCat well, it's not letting me post the link, so just do a search for, "synchronicity myth or marvel" and it should be the first article that pops up from examiner.com.
When I was 24 I thought this movie was kind of boring. I saw it much later and it had a much more profound and chilling effect. So I would suggest if you are very young and didn't care for it, wait and see about 20 years so that you have some depth to your life that lets you appreciate this.

It's hard to be interesting when you don't have the patience. If you do however it can be a beautiful, moving piece, provoking much more emotion then films with sound dialogue.
