It was 800 ft at the top of the zoom, but only 650 ft by the time that a safe flying speed had been regained, which shows that you shouldn't make a too hasty a decision. We were launching on one of Lasham's shorter runways, but we could still just about have landed ahead, as the student suggested. However I wanted to get the glider back to the launch point so that he could fly it solo. We had plenty enough height to be able to do this safely. I explained this to him in the debrief..
