With regards to Officer Poopy pants' logic about the sign: a free citizen can absolutely hold up a sign saying the speed limit should be 30mph. The officer may not have needed to write the ticket but we were not there for the whole video and certain parts have been removed possible to turn the video against the officer. Advertisements are allowed on the side of the road, therefore any free speech issues are as well. Even if you disagree with advertisements (billboards) on the side of the road, the cop here was still out of jurisdiction because currently, the ads *are* allowed.
In addition, no cop ever has jurisdiction without a civilian complaint that can state what the alleged injury was (this definition of "injury" includes property damage/theft), and that it was not an accident.

The cops point was that the other signs either paid for the space to put their signs up on PRIVATE or PUBLIC property of the other signs were state property and put up on state property. The person posting the banner has NO RIGHT to actually POST a sign on ANY property with out the owners consent. The owner in this case being the state. Its all pretty simple. I drove this same street many times a day for a long time. The signs on this street are very weird in that at one point in the street there were two different speed limits. At one point in the road, depending on which way you were driving, the speed limit was either 30mph or 35 mph. If this is your best video showing how nebulous road rules can be, you will have to do better than that.

I don't really know the laws in the US (I'm Canadian) but I don't really see where the officers were coming from. They just kept saying "you don't have the right to do that here". Also, they said it was "disorderly conduct". I'm not sure what was disorderly about it... but I guess we didn't see the whole story. Still, boils my blood a bit!

See theres a difference between a billboard/road sign and a sign thats being held up by a person against a chain link fence. The roadsigns are more visible and people don't honk at them. Plu s I dont know what city you live in but the fire department does drive around waiting for calls where I live and if the police werent out driving around you would have alot more crime. All the guy is trying to do keep you safe. If you dont like that go to Mexico where the cops dont drive around and careless.

Let me get this right are you saying you don't want the government to do its job of keeping you safe or "governing" the country. The officer may not have needed to write the ticket but we were not there for the whole video and certain parts have been removed possible to turn the video against the officer. But the bottom line is he did issue a ticket and maybe his interpretation of the law was wrong but thats why you have a court date and there are well educated judges who decide these things.

You're wrong, because the sign is no different then any other sign. The cop is attacking the person based on the fact that he is a private human being. Advertisements are allowed on the side of the road, therefore any free speech issues are as well. Even if you disagree with advertisements (billboards) on the side of the road, the cop here was still out of jurisdiction because currently, the ads *are* allowed.

The cops point was that the other signs either paid for the space to put their signs up on PRIVATE or PUBLIC property of the other signs were state property and put up on state property. The person posting the banner has NO RIGHT to actually POST a sign on ANY property with out the owners consent. The owner in this case being the state. Its all pretty simple. His job is to enforce the laws of the state of Wisconsin. I admire what you are trying to do, but you cant make this cop out to be a nazi.

WHY should the officer be "reported"? From what you show in the video, he was VERY professional. He was courteous. He even took the time to explain thngs to you in a very simple patient manner. He also explained to you that you are free to take your case in front of a judge versus paying the ticket and let the judge decide. Cops are NOT the judge. Cops simply are the ones that ENFORCE the laws and the judge makes a ruling on any conviction.

I drove this same street many times a day for a long time. The signs on this street are very weird in that at one point in the street there were two different speed limits. At one point in the road, depending on which way you were driving, the speed limit was either 30mph or 35 mph. If this is your best video showing how nebulous road rules can be, you will have to do better than that.

I was actually buying the police officer's explanation of public safety, if not the swaggering attitude. Then he went to the 2nd amendment analogy and immediately pushed me in the other direction. Wisconsin has surprisingly unenlightened laws on the 2nd amendment. If a police officer in my state asked if I was carrying a gun I'd tell him I was, as is my right. "I hope you don't. If I see you with a gun, I'm gonna arrest you."

If argument against these police continued or they refused to leave, I bet it would result in at least a taser encounter. Then they'd be hauled off to jail for "resisting arrest". AGREED!!! I am scrounging up what money I have to be prepared... to buy supplies and must-have survival items, such as canned food, etc. Our paper dollar will be totally worthless as is becoming increasingly apparent. Our dollar is falling like a rock. Other countries are abandoning our dollar.

But back to the sign issue--it is NOT okay nor is it safe to distract cars traveling at a high rate of speed on the interstate. The officer was right when he said free speech means they are free to talk about it. That doesn't give anyone the right to cause an accident on the highway, however. This should be simple enough to understand.

Actually the officer did cite a relevant law and said that it was Disorderly Conduct. Hey, I'm a HUGE Ron Paul supporter. I voted for him in 1988 after he spoke at my college, but the fact is that this guy holding up a sign could be distracting to the cars traveling on the interstate below. Those cars are not going 35 MPH like the street he was standing on but instead are traveling at a high rate of speed. This just makes Ron Paul supporters look bad.

this officer was doing his job. i would imagine this call was generated by a citizen complaint.the officer was respectful and informed a dumbass of what the law is. laws were put in place so anarchy could be staved off. i do not believe that ron paul is going to do away with all laws when he gets in the oval office. this kind of dumbass behavior is what can change voters minds to the negative about a candidate that has the potential to do great things. i support ron paul. I don't really know the laws in the US (I'm Canadian) but I don't really see where the officers were coming from. They just kept saying "you don't have the right to do that here". Also, they said it was "disorderly conduct". I'm not sure what was disorderly about it... but I guess we didn't see the whole story. Still, boils my blood a bit!

Thank you to the officers for letting the camera roll. They were patient and respectful. Citizens should not be allowed to place stuff on overpasses. Citizens should be able to bear arms (which would mean carrying it with you).

This just shows you we are living in a police state. If you feel an officer is violating your rights, find their address and take them to court personally. They are responsible for their actions and they cannot hide under any badge. They should pay if they're going to harass the public.
