I got my ears pierced at Icing by Claires and I remember them taking out new stuff from new packages and sanitizing everything in front of me, but I do agree with you.
But I've seen the piercers at Claries clean the gun and plus every earing is in it's own little container before they load it into the gun. I've had four piercings (two on each ear) done at Claries and each time the gun has been cleaned and I've seen them "load" the gun with an earing that's in a sealed box. Everything seemed safe and sanitary.
I got my ears pierced at Claire's when I was 10 and thankfully everything went ok, but I got my second ear piercings done at another jewellery shop (similar to Claire's) and the got so super infected it was awful, and I've got a bunch of yucky scar tissue at the back of the piercings. Next time I'm definately going to a proper piercing place.
ok um ive gotten piercings at clairs before and they do piercing great and just fine, ive never gotten infected and not EVERYONE that works there isnt licensed they just arent required to be.
At Claire's they make you sign a waiver stating that they did in fact use proper sterilization through out your piercing experience. Every Claire's employee that does piercings must be licensed and must go through proper training to pierce ears. They also must complete a number of hours of shadowing experienced piercers before they can even touch a Claire's customer.
My parents are very... judgmental. They don't like people who look different (which sucks for them because next year on my 18th birthday I'm getting my lip pierced, and I'm starting to gauge now XD), so instead of taking me to someone who knows what they're doing, they took me to a place that has "decent" looking people with a piercing gun.
I work at Claire's, everything is safe and sanitized.I am licensed and properly trained. The only thing that touches anyone's ear is the earring, NOT the gun. I also watched your video on why you don't like piercing guns, the gun actually does not put the back on too close (at least at Claire's) because there is a lock on the back that keeps it from going to close the ear to prevent embedding. I'm not here to be a bitch but I don't think you should talk about what we do if you haven't done it.
@powers21: And the fact that you're using "Most people I know pierce themselves anyway..." as a justification is just plain stupid to say, especially for a parent.
@powers21: The people at Claire's are not professionals, PERIOD. There's no way to properly sterilize ANY of their equipment. Laughable health standards. And so what, you got your tongue done by one person that way licensed and it was crooked, so all licensed professionals suck? No. And by the way, it's impossible to get tongue piercings absolutely perfect. Just look under your tongue. In fact, most piercers make a note to place tongue piercing slightly off on the bottom to avoid the frenulum.
That's bullshit. My daughter wanted to get her ears pierced at Claire's and they had to do her ears one-at-a-time, because only one of the girls that worked there was certified. Four years later when my other daughter got hers done, they were all certified. I went to a licensed person to get my tongue pierced, and she made my shit completely crooked. No complaints with the Claire's piercings AT ALL. Most people I know pierce themselves anyway...
Even if someone were to get hurt, nothing will be done. That is a way to make money and whenever money is involved people usually wont care what what the ending result is...
I got my ears pierced there a few years ago when I was a kid. It was suggested to me by my mom. I guess she didn't know the risks. I don't wear earrings at all any more because the piercer at Claire's messed up. My pierce-holes are totally uneven and I got a wicked bad infection when they were pierced. And I'm also petrified of getting anything pierced now because I was 10 when they mutilated my earlobes and it kinda traumatized me :(
I got my ears pierced like a year ago... I was aware of the risks but went to claires anyways just for the convenience and the only pierce shop I knew of couldn't take me that day. Luckily, everything went okay, but if I ever got any other piercings I would go elsewhere.
I had my ears pierced at Claire's, my ears have rejected it... All SIX holes..

Something needs to be done about that loophole. Sadly, I don't think anything will be until someone gets hurt and is willing to sue.
