thats why gove lockers brake lol dumb ass iv replaced many because people maily young boys like doing one wheel burnouts what happens is the post that supports the gove lock loking pawl snaps sending the lock pawl into the spiders
that sucks. i broke mine. the stud snapped in half.. i made it home too! sounded like crap and felt like a grenade was going off every time i took a corner... no fun
@sornbergerfarms Correction dumbass, Ive owned 500 cars and trucks and worked on thousands, so your 3 in the hand dont mean shit to me. Ill take a busted ass end Chevy over a running shit ass Ford ANYday, and that's said after 25 years experience. STFU, you can't win with me. If you want proof, try and say something someone with an IQ over 6 would say.
Yep. Trying to romp over a trench with 200lbs+ on top of the bed and probably factory shocks will do that. If you take care of a GM truck it will take care of you. It's just nonsense to beat it up like that. For everyone saying "p.o.s. GM", go try that in any other vehicle not intended for recreational use.
@FrankaDith g80s arent garbage. its not the gravel that broke it, it was when the tires went from the gravel to the dirt and hitting that ditch like that. with the sudden friction and wheel speed it is almost like revving ur car in N and dropping it in D. the transmission takes that beating too. i broke my auto locking rear end too but it was out of a 97 z71 sierra so i dont know if it was a g80. mine locked but wouldnt unlock so i had to drive it on the road and 1 sharp turn too many and POP!
@FrankaDith ya but i abused it worse than this guy and never maintained it. found all kinds of rebuilt ones for $2,000. i was going to rebuild mine but the spider gears were $1,100 by themselves.what happened was i broke gear teeth in the assembly and one day, one got picked up in the oil and thats what destroyed the rest. until that it worked but it would "sing"at highway speeds and i ignored it. now i have a standard open dif. way more safe and reliable but its a 4x4 so it dosent matter much
@GMCman82 Ya man i get you ,it hard to keep anything working on a 4x some work on the brake system now and i think its a better deal the computer brakes the wheel thats spinning ,at least with the Chevy Z71 you get a locker already in so ill give you that ,the G80 is ok if you work it the way its supposed to !
@FrankaDith my envoy has a g80. it dosent lock when the traction control is on but it does when its turned off in case the traction control dosent cut it. my truck had the old style even my mechanic said they are junk. they dont use that style any more and after i got my 1 wheel wonder installed, someone else came in with a truck identical to mine that had the same thing happen.
@FrankaDith after 97, thats all i know its when they added traction control. it took me a while to get one for my sierra because most of them had a 3.42 gear and mine is a 3.73 plus for whatever reason he said i couldnt use a silverado rear end. something about the style of it the bolt pattern or something with mounting brackets didnt quite match up. he had plenty silverado rear ends there, said "id use them if i could because this is a pain in the ass but it wont work with yours". cost me $800
@GMCman82 You could use the whole axle but doing that forces you to swap the front on as well since you need the same gears front and back ,i did miss match my ford diff from on with a different bolt pattern but it took me 6 hours of work to accomplish a one hour job ,but thats the only one he had and i had time on my hands but i dont recommend it . but lockers all do the job if you dont abuse them ,the G80 locker works with a centrifuge and cant be abused the way he did!

@FrankaDith you are 100%correct. And i admit when something is my fault. it was my first v8 and first vehicle with a locker in it not to mention my first vehicle that actually had any balls so naturally i drove it like i stole it, mashed the gas everywhere i went when i was offroad and tried to leave dual black marks and when i found out it would i layed a few but i did that for the first year off and on and treated it right after that but the damage had already been done. learned the hard way.
those G80s arent meant to be doing donuts in a feild they are meant for mature people who are in a bad spot and need a bit more traction not to play with!!! ours has never broken and probably never will
Yeah it was a good reason to upgrade to an ARB. We actually cleaned out all the broken spider gears and were able to drive it home, some how, in 2wd. Sounded like shit but it got us home lol!!!
looked like you were tryin to break it. lol

Are you kidding me? Lockers aren't made to be abused like that.
bikerman6577 6 months ago
That should not have broken. Eaton tests that stuff with much heavier loads on it than that. Must have been a poor install or a defect in materials.

That's just too much abuse for any locker and doing that shit is just plain retarted. Suprised nothing else broke on that garbage GM truck
4x4jeepmuddin 6 months ago
1:31 just an awful sound. Im guessing the reason it broke is becuse it was constantly locking and unlocking then just gave up.
