the parks are open now; the last time i went was in 2005, and i went to yala national park. we came really close to a bull elephant, but he was young and trumpeted but didnt charge. almost every other time we went to wasgamuwa or yala we got chased by elephants... it happens a lot :) the time we went in 2005 was right after the tsunami so most animals werent out
