I was deployed the Ulysses S. Grant back in the 70's it was a big sub in its day. I went on a tour of the Alaska with the Boy Scout troop my son is in, I walked up on the gangplank and was just blown away at the size. It had to be double the size of the Grant.
My Grandpa served on the USS Alaska cb1 during WW2, he passed away a year ago today.. anyway I was just looking for any footage of the Alaska during WW2 and came across this. cool vid
hell yea angels and dangles were crazy so was the emergency blow test while i was laying in the rack with my head pointed aft, lol at the guy still trying to clean the mess decks, i think i still have a few of those crank shirts, uss alaska qual board only way to earn your fish, cold ass salt water in the torpedo room bilge doin the bandit kit hell yea, wish my transfer would have went throught and i could have stayed with the crew instead of going back to the homo henry m jackson
Oh man, brings back the few good memories. I was on a plane with my girlfriend a week ago and we took a quick angle to get out of some turbulance and her soda started sliding down the tray. I grabbed it without hesitation or looking up from my magazine before it slid off, and she was like "how did you do that?" Caught more coffee cups during large angles that it's now second nature.
Angles and dangles!! Man,does that bring back some memories! LOL!! I rode the USS Simon Bolivar in the 80's. I remember sitting in the LOS chair with my feet on the IMP panel and watching the lockers pop open while doing them. All of the crap was sliding up and down the deck and I just watched it go by. Most of it ended up in LLMC when it fell down the fore and aft deck hatches.Made my ALOS clean it up after we were done. It gave him something to do besides sleep in the weapons office. LOL
