every time I hear this I start to sweat and get goosebumps.. I feel like I'm getting an adrenaline kick. This song is the essence of Rock, energy. The raw energy of this song, its is amazing. The insane drums, and the speed of this song, this insane tempo the band, orchestra and singer switch to, listen at 2:25. And that insane tempo going on repeat every time.. Amazing.
I will never forget what Priscilla said about this song. She witnessed that she was travelling by car with Elvis, and suddenly on the radio this recording of Suspicious Minds was played for the first time. For her and especially for Elvis was a totally unique feel. He loved slower songs, he loved melodies like Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain, In The Ghetto more than ordinary rock n roll songs!
That bass player was Jerry Scheff, who had just joined Elvis' TCB band the previous month (July, 1969). Needless to say, he was probably showing off a little to impress his new boss...and wow, he impressed this fan so much, that I am convinced this is the best bass work on any Elvis song, EVER!
There is a live video on YouTube of a very similar performance unless they've taken it down - Elvis clowns with one of the backup singers - very touching video. One thing I always liked about this song is that the drummer gets to play every lick he knows in the seemingly interminable fadeout! What joy!
Those drums, and that pumping bass that seems to function as the heartbeat.. the whole setting, just going over and over again. Its madness. And I love it. What a song. This, folks, is art.
The team of Burton, Wilkinson, Tutt, Scheff and Moberac at the time, were the driving force behind the music in 1969. This is a rare gem. Thanks to whomever uploaded this version. Was this taken from Live @ the International Hotel LP?
@scorpionsithlord Elvis always give the members of his band their own individual credit, he said they were the backbone to his whole thing and he was right! They were all very good! :)
OMG...and just to think...he was a twin-(blushin') So very hot! Thanks for sharing! Such a handsome man with a deep voice where you can feel the passion. Pic at 1:29.....thanks :)
Respond to this video...My #1 lALL TIME FAVORITE LIVE ELVIS SONG....(PERIOD)!!! The bass player and the drummer SERIOUSLY "get gone" at the end of this song, boy!!!!! A chill ran all the way down my back and straight thru my toes when I saw this....and that was just from reading the the video description!
@artfromtex If anyone out there can identify who is playing bass on this cut please post! Artfromtex is right, this is brilliant!
Also this is a good cut of Elvis doing one of his best late numbers. The greatness of this song is borne out by the innumerable covers it has generated, decade after decade, after the King laid it down for us.
Hard to tell which instrument is better... The bass, drums, guitar or keyboard. Perfect combination with voices, perfect song, perfect version. Elvis rocks!!!!
This song is definitely a true masterpiece and Elvis easily has the very best renditions of it. This song was rightfully a #1 smash hit for Elvis here in the USA. Elvis is totally irreplaceable and truly a one of a kind. Elvis will definitely always be #1 in music and entertainment. This entire video was absolutely phenomenal in every way, 10 Stars as always Annie.

Well you can blame Col.Parker for not hiring a professional camera crew filming this historic engagement .
