@str3123 actually ya...is this a live recording? I did hear a slip there. Regardless, I don't think anyone who isn't lying to themselves wouldn't say that Gould(regardless of ones opinion of his interpretation) had among the best techniques of any pianist in recorded history...and likely unrecorded as well. He was simply transcendent at the keyboard....personally I'd rather listen to someone like Alfred Cortot play Chopin...bc he gets Chopin, just like I'd rather hear Gould play Bach.
@hughaanderson Gould has a really special way to play, he changed completelly the vision of Bach. Also, Martha is the best pianist in the world, and she plays Bach very perfect and clear. For me she is the best. I think in Capriccio, Gould does the stacatto in some wierd parts, almost too much. Martha is the perfect one in those parts. I love her Capriccio... But, you know... Gould is Gould ;)
Ciertamente la musica espoliedrica y permite tantas sensibilidades como interpretes y oyentes.aqui,la belleza extrema se hace magica y ya no es una cuestion de sensibilidades.Simplemente es celestial.
@DasMusikalischeOpfer That is such an amazing section! I have always loved this piece, and also thought the sequence you mentioned was incredible...I think maybe bc , and forgive my use of words to describe such a thing, but it seems like the amazing theme that flows through the piece just sits in that high register and sings so beautifully...it really is an amazing thing to hear. It seems like Bach is in a way using Organ scoring almost, as if it is set in another register.
you know, there is this huge thing always going on about Gould, and to me it boils down to those who are comfortable with where pianism stands as an art and those who see it more as something that could transcend the academy etc. Gould used his instrument as very much more than a "Classical Piano"...to me he is the only person who gave Bach a real voice, because there is no attempt at false romanticizing, which tbh even period instrumentalists can't avoid.

@str3123 I don't hear an error, the key is a bit lean in tune, what exactly is the error you hear?

Unrecognizable in comparison to Argerich. Wow. Talk about the same piece being breathed in a completely different way.

@ConchinhaMetalica I agree about the staccato in Capriccio. It kind of ruins 7:44.

@DasMusikalischeOpfer It has quite a lot of character though, and the movement as a whole works well with it.

El piano-forte da más posibilidades interpretativas.Gould, posiblemente fue el mejor intérprete de Bach.Pero...¿Dónde colocamos a Gustav Leonhardt?.

Sensational, as always. I wonder if you've ever heard Harvey Keitel play Bach Toccata 914 in "Fingers" ?? Really good.....for an actor
