  • Did You Use Me ?

  • Heard this playing in the background watching Precious and had to find this, didn't take long, thanks so much for uploading! :)

  • Johnny, in addition to the new instrumental versions you're considering posting, it would be REALLY nice of you to include the ORIGINAL 1979 INSTRUMENTAL VERSION of Jean's P.I.R. 12 Inch Remix Version. Maybe add Jean's Instrumental take as a B-Side Track, should you decide to pressing some 12 Inch Singles on vinyl or on CD Single.

  • @FamousMikeyG Ron Hardy........Muzik Box..........Chi-Town.....'Nuff Said.

(She REALLY sounds like Phyllis Hyman..........hmm

  • Passion Left Behind

  • Been looking for this one for YEARS. Thank you Jean and Johnny and Dante63 - lost myself on the dance floor many nights to this. Smooth groove. Love it.

  • mmace63, Thanks - the new Instrumental tracks for "Was That All It Was" are done and will be released in February.

We're already getting airplay in the UK and on some U.S. stations.

Working on a computer can be quite effective but you need to have a lot of plugins, hardware etc., and the ear to make it sound live. Keep working at it - your love for music will take you right to where you need to be. Thanks again for you kind comments. Johnny Usry

  • @Stratavarious777 - Are you kidding??? The sounds and songs you had a hand in creating at PIR are legendary and are the blueprint for true soul music lovers. I only wish I had pursued this kind of artistic and creative dedication in my youth, instead of trying to rely on computerized tracks & arrangements to do my own songs, as I do now!!! Please, by ALL MEANS, release these instrumentals!! A fan for life... Mal Mace

  • I met this songbird in 2001 when she came to my hometown to do a small concert. What a voice and what a personality. She reminded me of Mary Wilson, being approachable and able to talk to you and make you feel she was excited to know you were a fan and one that loved what she was doing. This song is my all time favorite by her.

  • I just downloaded this mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • the memories of this song takes me back to key west 1977-78, at monster & delmonico's.

  • Sing MIss Carne.....its so true that the movie Precious brought it back...and its still serving it!!!

  • Dancefloor classic - people spin out to this tune big time!

  • I have this album on the top shelf of my son's closet. Now I have to get a needle for my record player. This album has stood the test of time. She's so talented. When I heard this song in Precious I fell in love with it again. I'm grateful for YouTube:) No needle required.

  • Just bad-ass track. You can tell a true singer - once the verses are over, the ad-lib start, which is what I like. Jean sang her ass off.

  • This song was a club staple at Club La Ray in Chicago, boy that place was wild. I love this tune and still play it when I mix old school hous parties.

  • Heartthrobber! I just downloaded this full album at DownloadMusic/./im Just remove the slashes!

  • This is so hot... I love her interpretation of a one-nite-stand... The movie "Precious" was so real and Mo'Nique deserved the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress... Her explaination of the abuse and neglect was so powerful...

  • I saw her -- Jean Carne -- at The (legendary) I-Beam Club in San Francisco on New Year's Eve 1980-81. The 11:PM to 2:AM line-up: Adaretha (also from the Norman Connors clan), Vickie Sue Robinson, and Jean Carne. She did this number (live-to-track as they all did) and kicked some serious rump! Listen... listen... listen to that... REAL hand claps. Not that electronic s#it they put out these days. And a 5-octave, wistle-register range... One of Pilly's true *natural reesources.*

  • The FULL dance version was re-released on Philadelphia International Records 12-Inch Singles [IMPORT] [LIMITED EDITION] a double cd of dance classics in 2006. Well worth looking for!!!

  • did anyone hear this on the movie Precious?

  • yes. Precious' mom was playing this when she was standing in front of the TV jamming and doing her hair. She was wearing that awesome white spandex floral jumpsuit.

  • I totally forget about this song until I heard again after all theses in the movie 'precious". What a great song !

  • Yes! Just great in that movie, and the way Moniq dances to it, its just fab. Such a sad movie, but in that moment somehow there is glimmer of hope. I love this song.

  • Great tune...can't stop listening 2 it!!!

  • You have to buy the whole "Precious" cd to get the song on itunes for 9.99. But if wait they will eventually offer it as a single for .99 cents.

  • I remember playing this on the radio in Texas when we were "REAL RADIO PERSONALITIES" and I rocked it in the Deep South

  • where can i get this song its not itunes help

  • Try Medium Rare Music in San Francisco; I tried to leave the URL, but it won't take. Google it. They have a kick-ass classic disco collection.

  • I'll Be glad to send you a copy-

Johnny Usry - Arr., Comp., Cond., Producer -

    "Was That All it Was"

  • can u please send me a copy? i love this song. reminds me of old new york although im not old enough to actually have been there.

  • I'm so pleased to hear this after so many years... I recall dancing to this after one of many breakups I'd experienced when I was a younger man. Frankie Knuckles would pay this from time to, but always on time.

  • Hey did anyone catch this on the movie "Precious"? I was surprised to hear it playing - lyrics were so appropriate for the story line. This is one of my favorites - a classy funky disco classic which did not get as much air play as it club play. I 'll never forget dancing to this one at Backstreet Atlanta - Jean was livingin Atlanta at the time so she was a special local entertainer. The drag queens really did a nice job on this one, too, with all all oohs and aahhs.

  • @BassikLife looks like Lee Daniels knows what's up ; )

  • This is the funkiest bassline ever, classic disco/R&B.

  • @hardearnedent WHAT YEAR WAS THIS OUT

  • 1979 was the original release, but it Sounds like a record from 74 0r 76.

  • Ultimate "One Night Stand" song.

  • classic diva

  • Thank you Precious for reviving this song!

  • one of the best female singers ever........

  • dance and romance...

    ahhhh and long version

    viva Jean

  • I read somewhere that one of the biggest problems for Jean Carne, was her fear of flying. By the time this song came out, she was already huge on the R&B Charts

  • @ DREAM23ful Where did you read that at?

  • This is the BEST disco song EVER!!! You had to be there at that time to really appreciate it and hear it at the clubs..... youtube doesn't do it justice, but man what a voice!!! love ya jean!!!

  • this is hooooooot! and long! YEEEEEEEZ!

  • this song is in a pivotal scene in the new film PRECIOUS where Mo'Nique is dancing around. It's on the soundtrack too. I believe it's the 8:00 version. Enjoy

  • you are right, shakin her fat a---, some movie too!

  • Oh how I remember WBLS... Working the stockroom of Ohrbachs (on 34th Street in Manhattan)... the station played continuously. Thank god this white boy got exposed to that great friggin' sound early on. 1976 transformed me. :>)

  • And BLS rotated Play That Funky Music, White Boy! I have it on tape, have to ION it up to YouTube, the old radio classic days!

  • Lol, jusrelax6... BLS back then, played ALL Classics, whatever amount of melanin the listener or artist's skin possessed. I dare say, I remember Sinatra making it into the rotation.
