  • Its Silat boys and girls. NOT Shotokan.

  • Whoever the dumbass is that said this isn't shotokan ur wrong. New age shotokan does flips and weapons. So don't be so quick to be a smart ass.

  • This is by far my favorite nunchuck video!

  • Great Dancer!!!!! but were are karate and kata???

  • its not shotokan. i learn shotokan and its definitely not shotokan

  • Not shotokan, not real nunchaku, no martial skill. It looks flashy but I seriously doubt he could hurt anyone with those lightweight speed chucks. If you took one hit to get within his distance he would be toast.

  • This is Karate style Rhythmic Gymnastics.

  • exelente tan pequeño con cinturion negro; sensei.

  • This has NOTHING to do with Shotokan!!! It's ashame somebody is fresh enough to use Shotokan to promote these wanna-be fighters!

  • Never saw Bruce Lee doing useless tricks like that kid over there.

  • Um, NOT Shotokan. Not even a little bit. Shotokan karate specializes in empty hand karate, and we focus on substance, not flash. This stuff is garbage, suitable for gymnasts but not real martial artists. The term "martial art" refers to an art of war- what about this is warlike or combative? The pretty twirls? The flips perhaps? Nonsense.

  • well

  • I would not want to go up against him in a fight............

  • @ZediStarcraft , me neither! I could die of laughing, looking at this "fighter"

  • Comment removed

  • i have to agree with the others. there is no focus of power. by the way jarheadx my instructor (john van weenan) was taught by kanazawa who was taught by funakoshi. thanks for that info..

  • This is dancing, not kata.

  • that was tight

  • Every gymnast is able to do the karate moves, but he/she is just missing the strength and the idea(reason) for the moves!!!

You can see - it is just rhythmic gimnastics, nothing more...

  • Gymnastics.

  • shotokan karate ?

with all my respect and humilty i think that the title is actually wrong

    oss

  • bullshit this is not shodokan this is extreme martial arts and NOT karate of any kind!

  • It's my understanding that Karate is empty hand. So therefore there is no such thing as Karate Nuchakus. It would be Kobudo.

  • @purplemutantas The word "kara" from karate means "empty" and te means hand but Funakoshi did not mean empty as in "you are not holding anything" he meant "form is emptiness, emptiness is form itself, the "kara" in karate-do means this"

  • @jarxheadx

you're only kinda right. Funakoshi was a poet. In this sense he used a double entendre to make a point. He meant both meanings, empty hand, and "void self". It is true that Funakoshi also used weapons, as there are pictures of him with sai and bo, however he made a distinction and called them "kobudo", not "karate".

  • Kata?

  • This is not a kata, this is not kobudo, this is not karate, this is a real shit!!

  • @gonxuelas Doing tricks like theses is really difficult. Presenting this type of form is really difficult. Somebody who work on theses tricks can kick hard. No problem with that. Like a break dancer have strenght. Don't denigrate things like that. That stupid.

  • @SetsunaJulien Yeah, strenght has nothing to do with hard kicks... Sure it helps, but it's no more than 20% at best if you have the proper technique. What this guy's doing and what the athletes do in rhytmic gimnastics with the balls and ribbons and all that is exactly the same. That is not MARTIAL arts. It sure looks great and I bet he had a LOT of training to nail that.

  • maybe freestyle karate but not shotokan...

but from all of the above this is awesome

  • That is XMA not Shotokan karate. Nice work with the double nunchaku never the less.

  • same here doesnt look like it at all but awesome vid

  • I am not at all sure this is Shotokan. It is very good though.

  • whats the music name?

  • Very nice...but not Shotokan.

  • the kid has control nd discipline...!

  • WTF this is NEVER Shotokan.

  • looks cool but definitely not karate

  • this kid is amasing:o

  • Umm..doesnt look like shotokan Karate..BUT IT WAS COOL!

  • thats not shotokan but that was COOL

  • XMA.

  • As a 43 yr student of Shotokan & Ryukyu Kobudo this is not Shotokan though Master Funakoshi did in fact teach waza of the Bo & Sai upon his arrival he eventually stopped teaching kobudo as the Japanese were not that interested and his seniors who organized the JKA certainly were not,(except for Kanazawa sensei) This youngman's kata is for "open competition" and a fine display for that forum but not traditional by any means.Classify this as "sport karate". This of course is my opinion.

  • And your opinion is absolutely correct. I wish more traditional people would speak out also. As I am 44 year traditional karate-ka, I will tell you catagorically that the JKA (founding organization od Shotokan) has not one single nunchaku kata. This is not traditional technique even though the kid is very well practiced.

  • theres no gino beats in shotokan

  • this is kung fu + capoeira ^^

but not is karate i think =x

  • No kung fu, no capoeira, no karate, just forms.

  • muy bien los chacos pero la tecnica deficiente

  • I didn't know that gymnasts wear black pajamas and dance around with weapons! Seriously... this is supposed to be martial arts? Since when do martial artists (especially Shotokan of all things!!) do front handsprings!!

  • impresive but uselsess. its all about knocking ur oppenent out or making them tap out.

  • Not shotokan but pretty kool none the less, and by the looks of it thats a kid doin those things and thats impressive

  • This is not Shotokan.

  • This is a show with acrobatics, not karate. The word karate refers to empty hand. Those kicks don't even exist in shotokan except for tobi mae geri which was poorly performed.

  • no its shotokan in TRADITIONAL shotokon they use b o sai kamma and nunchuku

  • this isnt shotokan karate.... first i do shotokan karate and the only weapon who is used (yes we use one) is the boo staff.

and i would say that this kind of kung fu seeing the tricks he does, i saw some of these moves in some kung du katas befor.

  • this isn't any type of karate.

Karate, translated from Japanese means 'open hand', describing that we have no weapons.

  • Haha, how ironic!

Being that dedicated to being tough, but choosing such gaaay music :)

  • meh.. i do karate and thats stil not shotokan.

was really good tho. but i saw that 12 seconds in he did a b-boy move. so its defently not shotokan

but what the hel im jealous lol

  • Matt Emig is amazing.

  • this is cool to the eyes but this is not Shotokan sorry!

  • Haha... that's not shotokan. He did some capoeira moves mixed with that nunchaku stuff and olympics!

    Impressive demonstration though!!!

  • EE-YAYYYYYURRRRRRRRRR!!!

  • bwahahahaa what a crap!

  • Nice

  • i dont think thats shotokan i do shotokan karate and im currently a 2nd degree purple belt and we dont do that so r u sure thts shotokan but that kkid is awsome

  • thats not shotokan plain and simple... shotokan meaning the teachings of funakoshi gichin

  • hey linoff i hope you know you just put down one of the greatest martial artist at the time right now. Matt is the best at nunchuks that i have seen, yo u show me a video of anyone better at the wepaon right now ro even at the time when he was younger an ill apologize.

  • i do shotokan and i've never seen this before.....probably because i'm a green belt and we aren't allowe start weapons for a while....but i dunno, are you sure this is shotokan????

  • Awesome!

  • ugh bleh, losers. It IS shotokan you dopes, all of that was derived from it and he just added in wat he learned on his own time. If you only copy movements, you are bound to die, but to create and go beyond is the key to success.

  • Very co-ordinated individual with impressive flashy moves. Nice dancing.

  • simply amazing

  • uh terrible sport karate thats not shotokan....

  • wow-ism

  • Karate was originally succeeded with weapons. But Shotokan was made by Funakoshi in Japan mainland. Funakoshi could not tell jujutsu and weapons and that's why there are no weapons in Shotokan now. Kumite was not also told exactly and that's why Nakayama made non-contact system. I watch many Shotokan Karate clips abroad, but almost all the clips look like fake. Shotokan in Japan practices Kata mainly and non-contact Kumite. So that is nonsense to talk about weapons or jujutsu. OK?

  • Shotokan is direct and mostly linear there are few aerial kicks.

  • i havent been introduced shotkan in depth, but i too agree, i only recognized a few basic postures and a few movements associated with shotokan.

  • I have to agree with Andyman. I practice Shotokan, and this is about as far from traditional Shotokan as you get. The man's fast and athletic for sure, but this is not a traditional style.

  • This is not the shotokan nunchaku kata. I know the real one. And, serious karate systems don't use two nunchakus. This is one of those systems where the only point of the katas is to look cool and show off. They throw in so many un-necessary moves that serve no purpose.

  • OMG, he's just playing around. No kime at all. That's definitely NOT shotokan karate

  • yea we all know its mislabeled but its still cool whatever u call it.

  • Not bad. But this isn't Shotokan Karate...It doesn't use weapons, I do it so I should know.

  • look that wasn't even karate, it was gymnastics.

  • many people think that karate is without weapons, but this is wrong. at the very beginning karate didnt even mean "empty hand" it meant martial art from china. today karate is often teached without weapons but 20 years ago it was a usual fact.

but that person in the movie is doing some acrobatic / karate mixed show stuff, this is not real shotokan.

  • this aint shotokan karate. they dont have moves like that, and they dont do weapons! this is XMA

  • are you sure dis is shotokan karate? i'm a green belt and we don't get 2 learn no weapons!well, im starting nunchaku in my other martial art, so im not that bothered! he has very nice synchronisation, i can only go for a while without dropping them or hittin myself in the balls!

  • Nice gymnastics display.

  • hey whats the song to this? anyone know?

  • This is extreme martial arts

  • kaarte means - empty hand! it is not a show shotokan karate is a life it is not anythind about weapons! the modern time ruins the karate

  • This is dance, not karate. Originally karate meant china hand rather than empty hand and there is a tradition of weapon use, there are weapon kata.

However, the point of kata is to record and teach self defence and fighting techniques... this guy (and a huge number of other karateka as well) seems to have missed that point... wildly.

  • Shotokan involves weapons as well. My dad did similar katas to that minus the acrobatics. He also used a bow, sais, commas, and nunchukun.

  • karate means EMPTY HAND, think about that

  • I bet he can't fight to save his life...

  • i agree with you....the butterfly sick he did in the end, it is very easy to defend against...just grab the legs and pull him down and thats it....this is not shotokan karate, shokotan karate is used for self defense, not for some show with nunchucks

  • Namtag lies.... this is not shotokan.

  • Well the its a hypocracy to practice karate with weapons. But I personally feel kobudo is a excellent art to practice in conjunction with karate (for better understanding of kata and kumite both with and against weapons) Still the video clip shown here seems to be neither. I've seen great katas in kobudo using nunchakus, but this person might as well have had ribbons attached to the end for more asthetic value.

  • i doubt highly tht this is karate. karate dont use nunchucks!!!

  • It saddens me that martial arts has become a spectacle, a form of entertainment, instead of a discipline and a code of honor. We are warriors, not showmen. This is not a sport, it is a way of life.

  • Though I understand what you mean, do come to realize that there is "arts" in martial arts for a reason. There is structure and style within every martial arts, and that's what makes them distinct. Don't forget about forms/kata's and what not. They are practised for a reason. Otherwise it'd just be a person randomly and wildly thrashing about. Aside from that...WTF!? Shotokan Karate with NUNCHUCKS!? Someone explain please! O_o

  • ANOTHER CHEER LEADER

  • That isn't shotokan, isn't karate, isn't kobudo...
