  • how many watts does it take

  • wow outstanding bike !!!

its really cheaper then gas !!!

no need to service this electric bike !!!

good work friend , post more video like this ...

  • i just love the sound of an electric motor. whats the range on that thing?

  • Comment removed

  • thank you very much, this is the real bike, environment friendly,i hope this kind of videos enhances electric vehicles in the world

  • I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali

  • @angel64879

thanks for the information, i've been looking for a bike like that and i like the fact

that there's a warranty on the batteries.

  • no warm up engine,no gas,no gasoline,no polution,no ekzos very good.

  • how come its so loud? i thought electric was meant to be almost silent...well this is good this gives hope that electric bikes in the future will still give that visceral feel u get from the revving of a normal bike.

  • Very cool... but be careful this is extremely dangerous. They can't hear you now!!!! That is a motorcyclists best defense... I'm worried for you.

  • там что тоже дороги плохие ?

  • Inspiring... great project! Greetings from South Africa

  • hehe, nice sound electro. whats the max speed?

  • This video makes me moist!

  • looks quick. a gpr-50 is one of those small scooters made to look like a racer? probably a good platform for EV. doesn't cost much. looks like a lot

  • with all the electronics available nowadays , he probably has an electronic immobilizer circuit installed in that bike, so when stolen it'll shut the electric motor off after 60 secs of run, with cops waiting for the thief with his Bike at the next corner.. hehehe ! PC

  • I always considered that using a chain transmission on an electric bike was mere stupidity. It's noisy and needs lot of service ! If you're using a small and conventional motor, you won't be able to place it on the wheel axis, but you could at least use a belt or a friction transmission system !!

  • Why if hes so proud of his bike, would he disconnect the speedo for this video. We know he isn't speeding anyway. I'm not one for mass speed on bikes myself, as my ancient honda 700 is enough.

  • @nbhoodrat Maybe he hasn't finished yet? I'd be proud of it. VERY.

  • @nbhoodrat I don't think that's the speedometer, but rather the rpm display that's disconected ?!

  • @nbhoodrat It's the rpm thingie.. The speedo is at right

  • He did not disconnect it for the video he has an all digital dash built into the cluster. He disconnected all of the original panel in the conversion.

  • @nbhoodrat The speedometer probably hooked up to the old motor's transmission and since it is gone, that's probably why the speedometer doesn't work.

  • @kah00na

What are you talking about? His speedometer works (look to the right).

His TACHOMETER doesn't. Which makes sense because you *probably* don't need it for an electric bike.

  • Let's get REAL people... do't you see that you can still collect electricity in MANY ways at home??? who cares about the electricity price??? get some solar panels and even eolic collectors....that's all

  • BAD key placement. What happens when you have to stop fast and slide forward?

  • key is just for the storage space obviously. Im sure he removes it when he rides the bike... lmao

  • great, so, how does he prevent others from starting it and stealing it?

  • youve made this by your own? so can you give me some advices? pls look at

    london-delhi1

  • Wow, I'm not a mechanic so I couldn't convert a motorcycly to electric but would shure like to have an electric bike like that.

  • That bike would make an excellent commuter bike.

  • It's called lane splitting, where he's at it's legal, and in Europe and Asia it happens all the time. Look up mordeth13 and you can see how crazy it gets in Thailand.

  • It's illegal over here too, but if you don't do it you'll get run over by some chimp behind you...

  • Seems cagers are the same everywhere.

  • lear to ride a bike and come back posting after !

  • top speed?

  • 1:10 : top speed 75mph.

  • This is a pretty neat bike, alittle sad that you made it out of a gpr 50 (I ride a drz400sm and a 1992 ninja 600r, but have an undying need for a gpr 50)

But im alittle ashamed by the fact that so many believe that electric vehicles are the way to go, yet hardly any consider battery disposal, or where the electricity is coming from.

(p.s. suprised you didnt keep the electric cord as short as possible, and take off the passenger footpegs, and etc. every ounce counts!)

  • and i just bought a petrol motorcycle, Doh!

  • whats your range on a full charge driving as demonstrated?

  • sweet!

  • Comment removed

  • YOU ARE BRAVE MAN

  • do you change gear? how fast does it go? i dont like the sound

  • shouldn't you get a smaller sprocket?..That would spool it up faster and give you bigger top end wouldnt it?

  • wow thats mint 10/10 mmmm i have a 250 motocross without an engine at the mo i might start fiddling

  • Do you get a lot of college educated chicks with that bike?

  • lol, no just the ones at 2:34 xD

  • hahaha...theyll understand one day. I like how people took my comment seriously and rated me down

  • Ill give you thums up :D

Some people just dont have any humour or cant understand different humor...

  • These might be a great reason for swapping out battries at a fueling station, it only take a few minutes to change them out and your back on your way. You would only get charged for the energy used to charge the battery, I want one now!

  • funny that you used a derbi moped, it looks better then most electric bikes

  • Mmmm, now how you say it? How many volts does your bike has instead of How big is your cubic cilinder's bike?

  • you probably want to know what the power output of the bike is: thats watts. At 75mph, thats going to be some outage! But what about range? Its a great concept though. great machine.

  • That is SOO cool... I would have bought it if you sold any ;)

  • Can someone please explain me what the amps are for and what they do?

  • amperes are the amount of electricity passed in a conductor for a certain period of time. expressed in "A" or 'mAh"(you can see that on batteries).

what he means by swapping amps for volts is changing the resistance to increase of decrease the RPM of the engine. as in i= v/r where i - intensity of the current expressed in Amperes; v - voltage; r - resistance.

  • Amps (A) and milliamp-hours (mAh) are two completely different units. Amperes is the measure of the amount of charge being transferred per second, so it's a rate, i.e. 1A = 1C/s, whereas milliamp-hours is the amount of charge which would flow in an hour if a current of 1mA were to be drawn, so 1mAh = 3.6C.

  • amperage is basically a measurement of electrical flow-rate. like the gallons per minute of the electric world. while voltage is the preassure(like PSI or kpa) the converter he uses increases the output voltage in order to increase the output amperage and vise-versa to adjust the power to the electric motor

  • how much?

  • omygod that thing is awsme

  • in latest news Prius totals an electric motorcycle, Prius driver says he never heard the damn thing going.

  • I like it

  • nice build. it's one of those normally weak motorcycles made out to look like a racer?

I guess that's a smart way to get the look for an electric :)

  • Why does the electric drive make so much noise?

Hybrid-electric cars seem very quiet. Shouldn't there be a way to make it nearly soundless?

  • I bet it could be a militarily useful vehicle if it was completely quiet

  • electric - NOISE?, motorcycle are at least 100x the noise so dont even complain about the noise honestly.

  • What you're most likely hearing is the chain noise. That's a lot of the racket you hear on standard moto's as well.

  • you need a speaker for engine sound :D

  • You should replace those heavy and dangerous lead acid batteries with Lithium Ions.

  • 9 seconds to 60 isnt THAT hot. Are you looking to increase power output at some point?

Lol at the completely redundant rev counter. You should swap it for a voltmeter or something to monitor power. Or battery status of something

  • Thanks everyone for the comments! I especially liked the one about "whinier than a 9-year-old jewish girl." Funny but true -- it does have a significant whine currently, although the camera seems to amplify it.

We'll see how the next bike comes out. We have moved to Bend, Oregon and are restarting development (initially at a low level).

  • this thing is fucking slow

  • great job mate :) this was uploaded in 2006, whats the latest with your electric bikes?

  • yep, I'd buy one

  • honestly this is insane...

big bravo for this wonderful job

hope you could commercialise them, cuz i want the same :d

  • Fantastic. I suggest adding a speaker and broom-broom sound effects, and that would be very marketable!

  • loll

  • Nice job, as a sugestion get rid of the Rev counter for an amp meter or volt meter give you some indication of the batter charge. save you running out of power and pushing the bike.

  • Thats not a rhetorical question. A rhetorical question is where the answers is in the quetion that was not, that was just a question. Example... Why would you want to eat chicken when it is sooooooo tasty? Answer within question.

  • Great work, its a very nice conversion. Its unfortunate, however, that your bike is whinier than a 9-year-old jewish girl.

  • Cool bike! Around about 2:00 when you were testriding I noticed that the Tachometer is not working. If you ca fix the Tach I'll consider buying one of your bikes... :)

    Great job! Keep it up.

  • since there is no transmission, why would you need a tach? The speedo is in direct relations to the motor speed right? So maybe you want 2 speedos?

  • why the hell would you want 2 speedos? to tell you how fast your going twice? lol. A tacho or rev gauge as we call them in england displays the engines cycles or 'revolutions' per minute (i.e how quick it is running/min) in other words how quick the motor is spining. I suppose it could be possible to have a rev guage for the cycle speed of the electric engine also. but i imagine its not very straight forward.

  • that was a rhetorical question.

  • Since there is no gear change for the electric motor-why would you need a rev gauge? It would be proportional to the speed. A rev gauge on an electric motor would be about as useful as a odometer on a piano.

  • just think how much more fun it would be to have a bike that was more quiet and less stinky

  • Think it is a great idea. The spirit of motorcycling is to be on two wheels, in amongst the world. A noisy engine isn't necessary for that.

  • nice 1 man

  • That is awesome, you are a king among men!

  • very nice job on the conversion.

  • Dude, you're tacho doesn't work :D

  • Electric bicycles/motorcycles aren't necessarily "slow". The more affordable ones, however, tend to be.

  • if i have an old bike, how much does it cost to convert it into an electric bike?

  • no more fuel, no more high prices, no more contamination, i dont care if electric vehicles are slow, they will save the atmosphere and my pocket

  • That's a good train of thought you have, the only problemis that it isn't marketable, if you try to make an electric vehicle that is affordable, super-fast, AND comfortable as well as good-looking; then electric vehicles could very well dominate the mainstream commuter lanes.

  • Check out the Enertia Electric Motercycle! It has a 45 mile range and top speed of ~50mph.

  • max speed? and price for conversion?

  • whats the legality of these?

i cant find much about the power limits and insurance and stuff.

  • I would recommend switching from a chain drive to a belt drive. The bike would be even quiet

  • Or driveshaft would be even better but I'm not sure how you could get that to work.

  • Driveshafts are heavier and make the rear suspension a bit more "tough". A belt drive is the key for a quieter bike

  • best electric conversion I've seen so far. good work!

  • That is so freakin awesome! VERY nice job.

    I want one! :P

  • ochh, i get furious listening to that sound, revs increasing, increasing and on. but no gear change.

    kinda cool though.

  • 9 seconds??? The EX250 does it in 5 or so. Aren't electrics supposed to have mountains of torque?

  • Even if all your electricity comes from coal an electric motor uses the same amount of energy 3+ times more efficiently which means that it is much more efficient than a gas powered bike, but many of the electric companies use some renewable energy sources. for instance 15% of my energy comes from wind farms which makes it even more efficient. Im not sure about bikes but the cost of an electric car in comparison to a gas car is that running an electric car is like paying 60 cents a gallon.

  • Range and how long to recharge and how much will the Electric bill go up to charge it? My bike does 70mph. I love the milage I get now. I know gas cost a lot but so does electricity.

  • awesome

  • From the website:

    Range: 35 to 100 miles

    (depending on driving conditions)

  • it's loud. I think I'd go with a belt drive.

  • scratch that, I'd like to build one with a wheel motor.

  • how many miles on a single charge

  • Were did you get the DC-DC converter? Sounds interesting to you it for power

  • excellent job! This is the future- and kudos to you for doing a conversion yourself- it seems to have good acceleration, too.

  • By having slower and heavier bikes. Seems backwards if you ask me.

  • Awesome!!

  • cooooooooooooooolllllllllllllll

  • What kind of range does it have? How many hours to recharge?

  • Yeah, please tell us about the range.

  • Where do you get the electricity to run this bike? I'm all for not using gas... the next step is to assure clean sources of electricity.

  • Do NOT sell out.

  • You are awesome! Can you convert my Tundra to run on nothing but electricity?!?!

    PLEASE! !

  • i want an electric bike, can you bring one over? pleaseeee.

  • how much did the gpr cost you? Is there a possibility of getting shocked when riding in the rain? What motor are you using? Where did you buy it and how much? How far can you go on one charge at a speed of 55 mph? I'm thinking of using A123 batteries but they're expensive and there is no info about how to charge them or a charger for them. Have any ideas? thanks

  • THAT is the future. i wish there were more poeple like you. its amazing what IS possible today.

    ...gasoline sucks.

  • this was a home built machine, i gess you all have seen the 7 second electric drag bike or no? respect electric

  • The oil companies well murder you! Honda,Suzuki ,Yamaha and Kawasaki well send Ninjas after you. The Harley people are just plain dumb and could never figure it out!.

  • How much would it cost to have you make one?

  • big oil must hate this clip

  • and thats why they paied GM $50billion in the 90's to crush all of their electric cars... even the ones that were already sold. oil companies make me puke!

  • HOTT DAME! It's a beast look but to be honost i would pay extra for gas to hear the beautiful sound it makes and go faster, althought his is an A+++ job.

  • It is exactly that mindset that is slowing the advancement of America. Let's see (or hear) what your Hog sounds like when gas costs over $8 a gal. or its not available at all. When that time comes I will be glad to challenge you to a race with my EV bike and your Hog with no gas in it. Gee who do you thank will win then?

  • Eww HOG?! Lmfao... im more of a Yamaha... type of guy or Ducatti. But ok, by that time i'll race you with the Electric motorcyle everyone will have or even cars rofl, now stfu =).

  • By the time gas reaches $8, the electric prices would become comparable. If there is no oil at all, the electricity will be very expensive. It doesn't matter how they produce it, you will pay the price that your electric company sets.

  • But if Big Oil is successful at replacing the now debunked gasoline with ((SHINY CLEAN NEW HYDROGEN)) the nearly free rooftop power systems will never mature and we will have no choice but to continue lining their pockets with our hard earned cash to get that fuel.

  • Out of all of the possible power systems that could be employed to power your car (Gas, Bio fuel, Hydrogen, ect.) the only one that the average suburban household could ever produce completely on their own is electricity via rooftop solar cells; cells that will continue to decrees in price as demand goes up.

  • He could just head to HomeDepot and buy a simple solar panel kit that could charge just this bike. Dont be so pessimistic...

  • Electricity will always be relatively inexpensive, because of its ability to be produced my individuals by means of solar, and wind energy.

And the higher gas prices go, the better electricity will look to the average person. Thus driving gas prices down as the market for electricity booms. Supply and demand...

$8 a gallon in todays dollars, maybe but by the time that comes to pass gasoline will be a novelty. We may however see $8 a gallon but that would be due to unrelated inflation.

  • Awesome bike. Great job. If you start making these in a small warehouse/factory, they will sell like hot cakes. Just keep the price affordable for us planet lovers :)

  • That is too cool. I am currently trying to learn to do the same thing. Did this guy even have to change gears or because it was eletric there was no tranny like a gas engine?

  • wow! that bike is impressive ^_^ at first i thought, electric motorcycle? blah, but then it was like, wow! that guy really pulled it off, i want one!

  • There is a lot of information on this guys website including the range, top speed, acceleration. I admit it does sound like ass but thats not why it's built. Time to reduce ourselves off foreign oil. Especially since Hugo Chavez just threatened to cut our oil supply from them.

  • I think everyone that views this will be interested in cost, as well as how long you can run on a charge, and top speed.

  • The sound is cOOOl !

  • Can you give us some specs? I'm interested in building one and wanted to know excatly what parts and cost I would be looking at.

  • I wanna have one!

It must be great to refuel at Home.

How far can you go with one Charge?

  • that sound was horrid, if anyone puts that into mass production, for the sanity of the world please use a soundproof cover and magnesium frame

  • that was an awesome demo. I was thinking of getting a smart car. but found out that moto. are more fuel efficient in the long run. are their any companies out their actually producing this type of work yet???

  • Would a true transmission with different gear ratios not be advantageous? Humans on bicycles find it advantageous, internal combustion engines work better with variety of gear rations to transmit power.

  • $???

  • wow impressive - very surprised to NOT hear the usual ICE exhaust noise. imagine putting on a belt drive = more stealth.

great job - gonna check out the link - I hope you put up more info on how you built it.

  • so, is there a web site with instructions do do this for myself? I would like to make one on a nice looking older bike (ninja 600 or somethin') How do I do this?

  • Noisy drive; needs to be enclosed, but otherwasr a top effort.

  • hi.

can U pls post details of the motor and controller?

do you say vtec? or etec?

    any links much appreciated

  • i still don't understand why we don't use electricity or the sun to power our autos. i mean i know that the oil corporations have control over it all. but still, fight the power! thats ironic isnt it? haha

  • the distance it can travel? an

  • lol its too loud for an electric. its suppose to be silent, everyone will laugh

  • not loud enough, you'd have to make the engine noises yerself, brum brum etc.

  • nah, if im going to have an electric car or in this case a go kart, i want it to be silent and fast! i prefer dc motors

  • That is awesome. Congratulations on a really cool looking and fun to ride "green machine" you should sell your technology to Buell so we can all buy one!!

    Thanks for you hard work.

  • ProductionDesignrMAX, lol and thanks for confirming, I must ensure I have the facts in future...can't be forgetting that extra 5mph can we!

  • ProductionDesignrMAX, lol and thank you kindly for your comments, I shall confirm the facts prior to breaking into repitition next time!

  • BADASS!!! THANKS FOR POSTING!

  • TOP SPEED: 70MPH - TOP SPEED: 70MPH - TOP SPEED: 70MPH - TOP SPEED: 70MPH - TOP SPEED: 70MPH - TOP SPEED: 70MPH - TOP SPEED: 70MPH. he says in that in the clip. Excellent and well done, and that comes from a petrol head!

  • Chris, for someone as repetitive as you at least get it fucking right. 1:15 top speed 75mph.

  • top speed??

  • This is a real motor cycle. Gas powered cycles should be called engine-cycles.

  • how fast does it go? and was it worth the conversion?

  • Sorry I ran outta room on the other comment whats the range between recharges???Its no Kill A Cycle but I like it a lot!!!

  • Being "seen" is key word here, what about day-glow colors??? Damn cager that pulls out in front of a day-glow orange, yellow,or signal red bike going to have a hard time in court!!! Gee judge I didn't hear it or see it,it fact I was asleep behind the wheel, talking on my cell phone.( making a mixed drink...
