Who says that people can't be concerned about more than one thing? It's good to oppose cruel and heartless deeds wherever they occur. People are disgusted by the killing of baby seals because there's no excuse for it whatsoever. I am Canadian, and I agree the seal hunt is brutal and sick, however it is legal. Seals breed like rats, there is no danger of endangering the species. They would be killed to keep their populations down by the Canadian fisheries anyway. None the less it is a harsh way to go.

'What if we completely stop the seal hunt?'. How many more seals will there be (over 300,000 from Canada and 85,000 from Namibia each year) and where will their food come from? I suggest that you rethink your strategies because if you succeed you will wipe out the already-ravaged fish stocks.

PS: I live in Ontario so I obviously have nothing to do with sealing or fishing - I just know numbers and these numbers are scary: 385,000 times 7 lbs/day = 2,695,000 lbs of fish/day.

Stop the seal hunt? I hate cruelty BUT... Each adult seal eats 7 lbs of fish (and crustaceans, mussels, etc.) a day and we, humans, have killed off the majority of the seal's natural predators. These stats(>) are from the web: >Every individual adult harp seal eats approximately 7 pounds of fish every day, or 1.25 tons of fish every year. So 300K+ extra seals eating 1.25 tons of fish each year means an increase of 375K TONS of fish/year and that will increase each year until they begin to breed.

Seems like the last one was indeed dragged off, as for bleeding them out, why waste time bleeding them on the ice when you hook the spike into them and drag/bleed simultaneously, it's called efficiency.

3,000 dead seal pups washed up on the shores of Nova Scotia last year after the seal hunt. That means that in just this area, 3,000 were injured or frightened into the water where they drowned.
