  • Nice vid... but you might wanna change title to 'known as canal tuna' ... i thought you actually caught a tuna in the canal...

  • ur my favorite fisherman.

i traveled around north america fishing.

fishing is sooo fun and ur so lucky to have ur own show

    Nick

  • @TheNickmick98

Thank you very much Nick. I really appreciate it.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • whats the best rig for jacks? and best bait?

  • @YourFriendlyMe

I like Threadfin or White bait fished frelined on a 3 to 5/0 hook with 40 to 60 pound leader.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • I lived in SW Fla, & am coming back,

I loved the weather,Beach& Fishing, & miss it a lot

We used to catch Jacks in the SW canal behind the house in Cape Coral & everywhere else all the time, big schools used to move thru & we got big ones then on the edge of the schools, I caught them on EVERY kind of lure /plug you can think of; Bombers , rebels, Rat-L-Traps , one day I couldn't keep the Jacks off of a Bubble Gum Pink 3/4oz. Rat-L-Trap, they just kept whacking it.

    They'll hit anything

  • Awesome I like how you didnt just throw all your catch in the cooler. In Hawaii we call these Papio and Ulua not as abundant like you just displayed one day I will go to Florida and do the same. Do you eat them? Back home these type of fish are prime eating. Hopefully you come out with more episodes.

  • @johnjpa808 They're trash fish over here, though they are great for a good fight and make awesome shark bait. I've eaten small ones (1 lb) and they actually aren't bad, but I'd rather use them as bait or for a good fight.

  • @nanoguy4098

Cool I will have to come that way and try to eat one and see if it taste good. I usually pan fry them or grill them. Cant wait hopefully I can get to Florida. Thanks for the response. I will even try to use them for bait.

  • when your fishing for jacks what type of line do you use, what lb. test line do you use for jacks around 10 to 15 pounds???

  • @broxcen909

    I would use 30lb Braid.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • what type and size rod should i get for inshore fishing like snook ,reds, jacks, and maybe some baby tarpon.

  • @foxraces I would get a 10-20lb 7ft class rod. What price range are you looking in?

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • Comment removed

  • @captchancey around $100 to $200

  • @foxraces

Penn has some great reels in the 80 to $110. Tsunami has some great rods in the $70 to $100 range as well.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • @captchancey thanks for the help

  • do u use braid and if so do u like it more then mono?

  • @snooker604

Yes and I do like it more than mono.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • @captchancey do u use it on ur avet

  • This is a great video there's nothng like catching a strong fish around structure especially jacks on spinning rods

  • this is great action these are some great fish

  • there's no better feeling than that jerking on your rod letting you know that you have caught a fish

  • Great video but I believe that was an amber jack

  • yo capt! whats good with totaltackle . com? is it ever gonna be up?

  • @AimForTheTeeth

Thanks for asking. We are working hard each and every day on it. We should be up very soon. We are trying to get it as close to perfect as possible. Stay Tuned!

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • @captchancey im really looking forward to that not too many sites out there are very reliable, i've ordered some rods online before comming to me broken and reels comming with no handles and such im just tired of that

  • lol the biggest fish i have ever caught was a 2 pound dog fish

  • " If you're wondering what kind of bait they are, there scaled sardines,.......and all them kind of names..... " haha

  • Live chumming for Jacks? What a waste of baits....Lazy fishing.

  • Hi Capt,

Been through a couple of your videos on fishing in the canals and notice that you've never use any lures. Will lures work in the canals?

  • @Stilweel

    Somtimes they work great.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • what reels do u use for jacks

  • @SuperJersh

We usually use Spinners in the 4000 and 5000 size.

  • Whoops error. This guy should come to socal and try for some 7-gill sharks. they get MASSIVE. Way bigger than any black tip.

  • @mmmmmarcus Black tips only get about a meter and a half

  • @HLGREAL I am well aware of that.

  • hey capt every time im fishing in southern cali i end up catching stingrays should i change my bait

  • Love the show captain, keep up the good work

  • are jack crevalle edible

  • @ijoj1

they are but you wouldn't want to eat one

  • dont u just luv to hear that drag spin captt..? ha whoo come down to texass sometimee''

  • so this is an extremely rare instance am i correct? also you guys dont keep anything at all?

  • @palmerballer1

Actually we can do this quite alot.

    Godspeed,

    Capt Ben

  • if u fish piers alot what bait do you think would be good to catch any game fish like a red drum or sea trout and not like a whiting or croaker.

  • Crab, but you're always gunna have annoying bait stealers (like croaker) getting your bait and getting hooked.

  • crab or cut mullet should work for reds, lures in red/white,glow,or natural colors should work for trout...

  • which canal system were you working?

  • Capt. Ben Chancey is the best big-game-fisher ever!!!

  • so wheres all the tuna ... these are all trevally ....... hhhmmmm ... good stuff though

  • its a nickname for jack

  • Nice catch beautiful fishes wtg

  • Capt. Ben, AWESOME video!

We're coming to town from Boise for 2 days Aug. 1&2 and NEED to catch fish for cheap. Any suggestions???

  • Some canals don't hold fish very well. You have to see signs that they are there or you won't be able to catch them.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • this is my all time fav episode! seen a bunch of them and this canal tuna one is so much fun to watch...big fan....

check out my JACK CREVALLE ON THE FLY ROD video....

  • do u guys ever flyfish 4 jacks

  • No, but we could if we wanted to.

  • Hey Captain Chancey, do you think a 3/8 inch square mesh cast net will catch the bait-fish you were using?

  • Yes that is the one I use the most.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • This is one of, if not the, best fishing shows I've ever seen. Always looking forward to new episodes. Maybe when I move down to FL, I'll book a charter with you sometime.

  • capt do u guys catch and release every fish u catch

  • Yes we do.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • Hey Captain Chancey I was just wondering what your opinion was of the Daiwa Regal Baitrunner reels and what is your favorite spinning reel?

  • They seem to be alright for the price.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • thanks for the info

  • hey, i saw the infomercial of the mighty bite lure, could you look at it and do you think it really works. Another thing, would you use fittler crabs or shrimp on a dock?

  • I am not a big fan of crabs except for Permit fishing and Tarpon fishing on the hill tides.

  • ok, thanks, good luck fishing, there was another question I had, which is your favorite fish to catch

  • We go after the Jacks every time we spot them. One good fight without going after 200lb fish. Keep up the good work(fun).

    Thanks

  • hey capt i tried to look for the excalibur cast nets and for some reason i think the site might be down or did they change cause it doesnt send me to their site

  • Due to a naming rights issue they had to change the name to Black Pearl Cast Nets. Just click through my website their link and you can get right through to them.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • capt try 2 go fishing in matagorda bay in texas giant red fish and 1o 2 12 feet shark

  • hi, your shows are awesome, I am a fishing addict, but I can't fish a lot. I am saving for a charter with my money, but anyway my dad and I were surf fiiishing a few years ago at new smyrna florida and we caught a 28 lb. 32 inch jack, we got it as a trophy, and they do fight hard, it took my dad 1 hour and 15 min to wind it in. We used mud minnows that I pointed out to my dad at a bait store, do you recomend any chartes that are for deep sea fishing in fl.? keep up the great work!

  • I don't really know a lot about the Deep Sea fishing charters but I am sure there are some great ones out there.

    God Speed,

    Capt Ben

  • "Maybe that ones got my name....nope, maybe that one...nope that one does...."

  • Thank you very much for the great comments. I really appreciate them. I am going to be working on that in the near future with the gear and all so stay tuned.

    Regards,

    Capt Ben

  • Capt. Ben i'm 14 and live in Monroe, Wisconsin in the U.S., and there is NOTHING anywhere near big in regards to fish anywhere near me. haha. but i love watching your show and wishing it will be me someday catching fish like that!

  • Hey guys, been chatter in the Ft Myers grass flats & pot holes. Use a gold hook red terrorize weighted head with a white peralessent skirt. Bottom bounce it and top sink it and the grouper are hitting.

  • IN australia we call them Trevalley or

giant Trevalley. They are really good eating.

  • OMG Sayumyum... These Jacks are probably one of the nastiest fish. You really think they are good eating?

  • im from australia and i caught one 4kg the other day, there crap eating, you have to bled them out asap,no a good table fish but i guess some people are none the wiser.

  • Not going to lie Capt Ben but this is one of your best videos . i watched this thing 3 times over and it never gets boring !

And we were catching little things like spanish makrel or w/e.
