  • I didn't have a little knife as sharp as that one so I used a butter knife. I didn't have any oranges either so I used a plum. It didn't work out too well.

  • you can block people from watching youtube videos? whoaaa.

  • please chef john make some red velvet cake ^_^

  • @TheHotpinklollipop Oh my god yes, I love this idea.

  • I just tried it for the first time, it wasn't perfect, but I got to ask my future mother-in-law what type of orange that was, I don't want to use that kind again, it had another layer of fruit under the first and made it a lot harder.

  • chef john, i can spend all day watching your videos!! :]

  • Thanks. I never could pallette oranges, love the taste but the piff and membrane part made them (texture wise in my mouth) undedible for me. This works great.

  • YOU'RE SO AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

  • You're always so much fun! Thanks!

  • u can say a thousand different ways enjoy :D

  • supremes? I just call them segmented oranges. But yer good in a fruit salad.

  • the Supremes named after orange supremes? now that is one heck of a trivia!

  • I suppose for what you use it for it's good, but I'd feel like i'm wasting a lot of orange that way.

  • ... :( looks lovely.. but what a waste...

  • your really good at everything u do, love ur vids:)

  • Nice knife .. is it a Shun?

  • @doomonucharlie its part of the new shun line yeah

  • i want THAT orange!

  • How do you maneuver around the seeds?

  • it looks good and probably taste yummy too but I think it quite a waste. You threw away so much good stuff....

  • Well there is one ingredient: an orange (or other citrus fruit)

  • LOVE your little jokes! really make the video cool! <3

  • lol I thought you will put it in the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.

  • Comment removed

  • what brand of knife do you use?

  • chef john i really like your new shun knifeee :)

  • What kind of knife is that? Looks like a Shun, but which one?

  • can you make home made corndogs

  • Thanks! I didn't know you should avoiding the membrane once you cut out the first slice. My mouth is watering! The narrater sounds a bit like Seth Rogen.

  • @BearBee44 its chef john !

  • Man, I love these vids.

  • Hiya Chef! Thank you so much for posting this! I hate the little membranes in the oranges that tend to get stuck in my teeth lol. Question: I made your recipe for caramel apple pie(which turned out amazing), but, the sauce for the pie was pretty watery for some reason. I followed every single step exactly as you had it in the video, but I have no idea why it did that. Any suggestions? Thanks so much again!

    -Love from Dallas, TX-

  • i <3 food ! x)

  • thats bascially the same method i use to cut water melons for non black people

  • @lbayo12 XD

  • Woo oranges are coming in season!

  • Chef John I got it on the first try..do I get something special? oh say a certain book made by a certain chef named john?

  • I'm going to do it right now =D

  • Chef john,

Im planning on making this as a dessert on sunday, would be like 1-1½ orange per dish, and i would pour on a little bit of chocolate and ofcourse some of the juice from the orange... Sorry for my bad english - But what do u think, would it be an okay little dessert :) ?

  • insane in the membrane!

  • what brand of knife are you using? I need a new one...

  • I use to hate eating oranges because of the white skins in my mouth, but this changes everything!

  • Chef John makes everything awesome!

  • really like the technique videos! Thanks

  • Hey Orange....KNIFE!

  • @seazonegranec hahaha. nice.

  • have you ever done a knife sharpening or honing demo?

  • You really have good videos and recipes but, you are obviously runnig out of them, right?

  • marry me?

  • Chef John, you're my favorite. One day I hope to leave a rude/idiotic comment to have you sarcastically reprimand me. I might do it on purpose.

  • I never knew they had a name. Thanks!

  • Just a little criticism, when you sliced off the first end of the orange, the stop made it look like it lagged, to me.

  • I got it the first time!! :D

  • You know, I was perfectly happy with membraned oranges. But noooooo, you just had to tell everyone about orange SUPREMES. Now I'm never gonna be satisfied with just normal orange slices. I wouldn't have cared if it were merely for presentation, but those darn supremes actually taste ten times better. *Sigh* Chef John, you keep spoiling us all!

  • Would you make some creative halloween food<3?

  • @oilovebabii have you seen those severed cheese fingers he did? (at least i think they were made of cheese)

  • @oilovebabii have you tried the cheese fingers?

  • The scallops look amazing, sir..

  • Chef John,

Love your vids, love your voice, love your recipes (I've tried several :) love your humor, love your technique tips! I'm always so excited to see a new vid posted, and I always show my mom (who doesn't have a computer) and she loves you too :D Even my husband and son enjoy watching some of these, and they're not even cooks--but they enjoy your humor lol

  • but i dont like to go there

  • @IrisAndHerRainbow

Exactly! His voice is one of the main reasons I became a subscriber! I love listening to his vids :)

  • Good tip, thanks.

  • This is the only way I can get the kid to eat grapefruit.

  • cool knife

  • Chef could you do a video of what kind of knifes you use because I don't know what kind of cutlery to buy

  • Oh... that knife.... makes mine look like a blunt stone.

  • Beautiful knife chef John, where did you get it?

  • it is so awesome!! really like it.and i get it in the first time and it so cool thank you for this video.

  • i love foodwishes <3

  • i've tried and i keep messin' up. what am i doin' wrong?

  • I have mixed feelings about this, I can see how the tenderness would be a bonus but.. I would have to eat the leftover bits after I was done! I love orange membrane, pith and all! I even eat the "core" I assume that to be a stamen?

  • Why is a pithless orange slice called an orange supreme? Is there some particular culinary origin to the term? The etymology of words always interests me, I hope someone might know.

p.s. Your intonations are the best part of the video. I still maintain you should perform voiceover work for commercial applications.

  • i've never wanted an orange so bad in my life

  • you should have added the annoying orange in this video :)

  • @crashdevil666 Oh my God yes, I would pay to see that thing cut up.

  • oh gosh!!! watching this at 2am isn't the best idea.. it makes me so hungry everytime i watch your videos!!!!

  • a waste of orange ,

  • I love your comments to the idiots below!!!!

  • I just love your vids, but could you do one on the proper way to sharpening knives and how often you should do it? It would be soooo helpful!!!!! thanks..you're the greatest!!!! =)

  • fun fact. this video has more usages of the word "membrane" than any other foodwishes video.

  • mmm...orange membranes

  • that orange looks so juicy. making my mouth water D:

  • Chef John, you're so funny! And Congrats on the grand prize! I hope you have a great time in NYC. We're rooting for ya!! =D

  • you are hilarious man. i'm adding that to wikipedia

  • Yer a pro ;)

  • what a waste of an orange!!!

  • Piths are healthy. Do you value taste>health?

  • @Principalies

he probably uses those supremes for recipes.. the pith & membrane makes the orange bitter, especially for grapefruit, so it might ruin a dish.. other than that, i agree you should eat the membrane for the fiber

  • Would you say you were insane in the membrane?

  • dude if these oranges are so good why would you waste so much by cutting it all away

  • @reeding To get to the best part, of course!

  • Thanks for the video! I really needed to know how to do this!

  • i avoid eating oranges cause i always choke. problem solved?

  • Simple technique that most should know.

Good instructional video for those who lack the knowledge.

  • i learned this in my cooking class!

  • Did you use a global knife? If so, which one is it?

  • @shot3gun It's a bird's beak paring knife, and I think its a shun.

  • Awesome technique I've never heard of an Orange Supreme before but i think I know what is going on top of my next dessert experiment :D

  • also cut off the Cap?!?!?!! you mean top XD

  • SWEET!!!

  • Heeeeeello, Chef John, was just hoping if you could give us an update on the audition for Food Networks. I was browsing through your blog posts and as far as I'm concerned, I haven't found anything about it, yet ):

  • @MyPinkStaples follow his Tweets. His profile is Foodwishes on Twitter. He keeps that updated several times a day. BTW he said it went well, and the two who interviewed him were very nice.

  • Is that a Japanese knife you're using? Just wondering...Corie in Seattle

  • This is one of my fave way to cut up oranges lol. I use it when packing kids lunches. They think its the little expensive ones in the cup haha

  • @XxFrancineJulietxX Thats so cool XD Sneaky parents ftw

  • lol funny

  • John is Chuck Norris.

  • ooh this actually looks good, i'm gonna try this! (i like the membrane part but my family doesn't haha)

  • is this a reupload?

  • Ignore all those guys Chef John, I love everything about your videos. Keep up the good work

  • i love all your videos!!

  • Did you audition for the FoodNetwork yet?

  • Thanks for this video! I always make a mess whenever I cut oranges. I dislike cutting oranges for that reason, but I will try this technique!

  • thanks :)

i didnt know how to cut oranges, i just peeled them,

but then again, i dont like oranges haha

but you make me wanna try this to make orange juice! haha

  • "..insane in tha membrane..."

  • always wondered how to make a Great Creme brulee

  • wow it looks so good..............

  • another recipe with orange supremes, please?

  • @eyeblazer I recommend Manjula's sprouted mung bean salad (differeny youtube channel)

  • @ALLINKNOTS turn off the sound

  • @foodwishes Nah, I just won't watch anymore. I like some of your recipes, but they're not good enough to go through all that trouble.

  • @ALLINKNOTS All that trouble? Muting the video? Geez, you must be one lazy motherfu--

  • @keibranch Muting the video? You really are stupid, aren't you? How the hell can learn how to make the recipe without audio? Retard.

  • @ALLINKNOTS I think the video is clear enough so that if you mute it, you still know what's going on. :)

  • @foodwishes

Its what that make the videos so fun to watch, anyone can show a recipe!

    Carry on Chef John!

  • @ALLINKNOTS You want a voice that pitches up and down, and that is hard to understand? I think his voice is clear and very easy to understand, which helps overall when trying to understand a recipe.

  • @ALLINKNOTS what do u prefer? some dumb, uppity sounding bitch on the food network?

  • @ALLINKNOTS ur a douche for saying intonation on here. chef john has one of the best speaking voices for this kinda shizz. biotch! get some!

  • @ALLINKNOTS That's the best part of all his video's.

  • @jas68maro I don't give a shit if you believe my profile or not, it's nice to know you think I ha
