it takes quite bit of going to roll it over only in the high winds have I seen one go over and why did this idiot want to roll it on purpose for what is a perfectly good vehicle?..strange
@WELLBRAN PERFECTLY GOOD VEHICLE????!!!! What a piece of crap! This is the stupidest car I've ever seen. It makes a 1960 Panhard-Levassor look like astro-physics research.
So much so, I say Jeremy Clarkson did the exact, perfect thing with a test vehicle when this pathetic excuse for a car was featured on TopGear.
@WELLBRAN "High winds"? Jesus Christ. You're calling it a "perfectly good vehicle" if it got toppled by "high winds"? And that doesn't refer to hurricane-strength gales, either. That's just a windy day.
He couldn't have been going more than 30mph, and if he made anything sharper than a gentle circle for a turn, it flipped the car over. This car is shit, and this design was shit.
Reliants only existed for so long because you could drive one on a provisional licence [being a tricycle]. You did not need to pass any test to drive one. In the 70s loads of us, mainly bikers had relaints [or bond bugs] during the winter months. As cars they are probably the shittest in the world, but acceptable when you do not have a licence for a 4 wheeled car. I had loads of fun in mine, 4 of us even went down to Herefordshire, 300 mile round trip.
@Meadoway40 Reliants only existed for so long because you could drive one on a provisional licence [being a tricycle]. You did not need to pass any test to drive one....does this still apply ??? id love to find out...
Am I the first one to spot a rifle in the pile of crap at 0:53 after the Robin's flipped back over? (I'm guessing it's an airsoft or paintball or something, and not an actual weapon.)
when i saw the first couple of seconds i thought: 'hey this guys got a well looked after classic he's obviously put a lot of time and effort into his little starsky and hutch reliant, he's clearly an enthusiast and knows how easy these things are to roll. he wont do anything silly.'
I actually saw a Challenger main-battle tank pass one of these things on a road near an army base in Britain. It was surreal to watch. The commander used hand-signals to to indicate he was pulling-out and then back in. Imagine how humiliating it must be to get passed by something that weighs over 60 tonnes!!!
We're not engineers over here, but we're going to go out on a limb and say that taking a corner with just one wheel to balance all the weight on the front of your car ups the likelihood of tipping over and rolling down the street from "possible" to "guaranteed."
@V742 yes what happened to the blue ones with handlebars in them ,they had sliding doors [spack charoits we called them ] disabled folk used to drive them in the 70s
@V742 well u would have to ask them i dont suppose it was after having a high speed crash in a robin ! the ones we used to take the piss out of seemed to be down syndrome cases [very strong types] ,not a lot up top
@RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF They were all owned by the DSS, who decided one day that the cars were dangerous and would all have to be scrapped. there are still a couple about that survived
@mrspivvy we had a place for the disabled by us ,they were everywhere ,be worth a few quid now, handlebars were inside them ,ah childhood memories bye
@Inmateshardstyle Yeah! They can go to space, they're areodynamic in shape, they save you 55 pounds a year and are economical. And they're excellent for culling the population.
In America if you want a 3 wheel motorcycle, there are all kinds made with a fiberglass tub and the ass end of a volkswagon beetle, and front end of a cruiser motorcycle. They are not enclosed though.
Because under UK laws, a 3 wheeler is classed as a tricycle and you can drive one on a motorbike license. you only pay the motorbike rate of road tax too. these things are also good for 60 mpg
I'm registered disabled and would like your old three-wheeler if you don't want it!
I have grown weaker since my third hip replacement, and find it too painful to get around; and I get too out of breath.
Let me know, what you think; I hear that four wheel vehicles have superior road handling by comparison that may be the way to go for yourself, especially if you don't need a nimble-in-carparks vehicle.
That's great, when rolling one in Mr Bean the stunt team couldn'tturn one over without an air ram stuck to the bottom, maybe they should have called this bloke!
@1RadNomad My Reliant is excellent! They're perfectly stable if not used by idiots. It's funny somebody going out to do this, but you need to know that the result is deliberate: My cars (5 so far) haven't so much as lifted a wheel in 28 years of driving (I'm NOT a slow driver). Reliants are great fun and stable if used correctly. It's just a great shame that a lot of people can't get their heads around three wheels - They are missing out on a lot of fun.
sadly, if htey'd widened the front wheel, the vehicle wouldn't have been such a piece of shit.
