I'd wish that country music would get more attention nowadays i mean- i'm 18, and the only persons that i know who knows Ray Price, Roger Miller, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Conway Twitty etc etc, is my dad and grand dad.
The young people don't know what they are missing- and I actually feel sorry for them
JFrankley, Buddy and Jimmy took turns. Both for road gigs and studio work, Ray would call both of them and and the first 1 to answer the phone would get the job. Buddy even said that it was just luck then he played the intro to Night Life: he and Jimmy had worked it up together, and it would have been jimmy's famous intro if he had gotten up to the studio first
Payola, I gotta agree, even as one who generally prefers Buddy. I'll Be There and Pick Me Up on Your Way Down both feature just the perfect steel ride, made possible by that attitude of Jimmy's. Buddy never had that same attitude, and therefore would never have expressed the same thoughts.
@abt7217tc - Don't give it a second thought, my friend. Ray Price has been around continuously since the 1950's. How many of the so-called pop, rap or current singers today will be around in 5 years let alone 50 or 60 years? Hell, some of the pop and rap bunch won't even be around this time next year, let alone in 5 years.

@Evangelander My brother in law is who I was referring to when I said he took his life. Sorry. If you had read my first comment you would have understood. My F.U.
My apologies to Buddy Emmons who I now believe is on steel here. I think this perfomance comes from 1962 when Buddy had already replaced Jimmy on steel. Sort of like replacing Dizzy Gillespie with Miles Davis on trumpet, I guess. Ha! That Ray sure could pick 'em!
There goes Ray and the Cherokee Cowboys kicking up the dust again at the Opry. Jimmy Day getting in his usual unforgettable licks, too. Pure country at its finest.
DUDE. That's a Gibson guitar he's playing, but I've never seen that model. What model axe is that? That is SO COOL. This is country right here, people. Long live the Nudie Suit!
Damn ol' Ray sure knows the deal
Great, Great artist!
