The Reason that it was referred to as the Whispering Orchestra is that it contained no Brass Instruments; only Woodwind and String Instruments along w/full rhythm section.
Lloyd,I've straightened 100s of 78s.Place the record between two old storm windows and place in the hot sun. When the record "relaxes" move the windows to the shade and let cool.
Likewise I have the Hampof this. I have some of Herb Gordons recordings.
His Orchestra was called the:Whispering Orchestra" as the instrumentation included no BRASS Instruments whatsoever, Only Strings, and Woodwinds with melodic percussion such as Vibraohone/xylophoine, Piano etc...
Very soothing Orchestration I think. Don'tt forget those Lake Arrowhead Inn sessions, they are great!! ie: "Good Little Bad Little You"
Great info. Timothy! I would really like to hear the Johnny Hamp version now. I'm sure it's quite different. I love the orchestration on this. So smooth.
That would be one of my all time favorite shows when I was growing up, The Dr. Demento show. The song is Cheerio,Cherry Lips, Cheerio which Lambert recorded under the pseudonym Gordon Wallace.:-) I wish they still had his show on where I live, because i heard he's still broadcasting every week.
I have this tune in a very different 1928 recording by Johnny Hamp's Kentucky Serenaders. It's on the flip side of Ramona with Paul Whiteman's Orchestra. I believe it is from 1928, issued by HMV in England.

There is a song by Scrappy Lambert, that is the closing theme of a well-known radio show. What show, and what is the song?

Correct. It's on, some places, but to hear it on the Internet you have to pay two bucks a week.
Is the song "Cheerio Cherry Lips," on youtube/ If not, I can put it there, probably. I have a clean enough recording of it.

I don't think it is. I would love to hear it again. Thanks
