Could have leaking o-rings on the HPOP (high pressure oil pressure) feed to the injectors. HPOP needs to build to 500 PSI before the ICP lets the injectors have permissive to fire. If leaking, takes longer to build pressure; i.e. longer to start. Leaks more when hot. Oil is thicker when cold. Reason engine starts faster in the cold. Ford has updated O-rings with back up rings for this problem.
Thought that shit wasn't gonna start. Sometimes mine will crank for like 4 seconds before she starts and then sometimes she starts in like half a turn... is it normal for these 6.0 to crank like that before they start?
My 06 Powerstroke always takes a couple more cranks more to start after its run and has gott'in hot. When cold even if its -5 outside it takes a half a turn to start. Its done this ever since new
@Jason1Pa a little secret. is when you've been driving it, you know its warm. and go to start it, start it like its a gasser. just straight start it. i was having the same problem. then figured out that when the fuel rail was warm, and i turn the key on and waited that 2-3 seconds for the glow plugs to kick off, it was building too much fuel pressure. now only on cold starts, i wait for the glow plug light to vanish, and when the truck is above the bottom of the operating temp. I just start it.
That's nice! I'm thinkin about doing the same thing on my '04. What is the noise level in the cab crusing around? Does it every get "mind numbing"? (which is only possible to my wife ;) I could never get sick of that sweet sweet sound lol) let me know... Thx
i just ran my dp once when i unbolted my dpf and took it off. If youve got a few hours you can unbolt your with a few long wrenches and a couple cans of wd-40. you can clearly hear it in the cab, your wife would most likely get annoyed not by the engine, but the turbo, i love it myself and i hope they reuse vgt turbos later on. But it sounds great and like a jet, until you step on it then it just roars and it just gets better.
if i dont beat it, probably around 14 or 15 around town. dont do a whole lot of highway running with it.... so couldnt tell you highway... if im warping on it, more like 11 or so
