  • she must've been so out of breath.I'm learnin clarinet in my school band and now still an amateur.I learned flute before so I found the clarinet hard(even to make one sound come out of it)& then the fingerings..I feel uneasy with my fingers NOT covering the holes but only resting gently on them.My coach says relax the fingers(cannot!) then support with one thumb only?Clarinet so heavy my thumb hurts after holdin 4some time.):I'm always out of breath too, coach advises me to exercise, jog.

  • Oh what a range on this instrument and Sharon makes the basset clarinet sing in all registers. Bravo!

  • Sharon Kam delivers a wonderful renditon of this classic. She is terrific.

  • The lyrical interpretation and dynamic presentation make this performance a "classic" in a most elegant setting - kudos, Sharon!!!

  • What a great representation of this piece! I played this on a recital back in college. This video brings back some great memories. Thanks for posting this. Sharon does a wonderful job!

  • In band you have to sit down, back strait, no movement, and you can't play really loud. :S way different than this.

  • @Godspell2007 That is because she is playing a concerto..

  • o.O how i wish my band allowed the clarinets to stand up and play the pieces

  • It says you are sharon williams and it is a piccolo so I dont beleive any of this!

  • Ok, To prove that it's basset clarinet go to IMSLP and find that concerto piece that is originally written for basset and follow and read the score while you are listening.

  • I want a mozart clarinet sooo badly :o

  • Great playing n expression... awsome sound ...Basset Clarinet...

I love n Play Bb Clarinet....

I performed this piece accompanied by Piano... for my Grade Exam in 2007 in Bb Clarinet.

    Love to see more...

    Thanks for video

  • WONDERFUL post. Thank you so much. Until now, Sabine Meyer was my favorite clarinetist. I just might have to update my thinking. Actually, without any disrespect to Meyer, I can have two favorites, can't I? ;)

  • Where is this being performed! Its F****** gorgeous! And she is amazing of course :)

  • @JeremiahBaker2 according to her website, it's the Estates Theatre in Prague, Czech Republic. I checked out the theatre website and it looks like the same place haha.

  • @dennis90214 Alright. Thanks kindly man!

  • @JeremiahBaker2 No problem - glad to help!

  • I play flute and clarinet :) and I agree that she may be swaying a little too vigorously :) but she's excellent!!!

  • i play the clarinet!!

  • It seems that 44 people are stone deaf...

  • SHES GREAT!! ONLY IN YR DREAMS YOU CAN TRY TO PLAY JUST LIKE HER!!

WOW O O O SO..O....BRILLIANT!! JUST LOVE HER SOUND!! AND HER AIR CONTROL!!

ABSOLUTELY PERFECTION!! SHE IS!! THANK YOU!!

  • Lol... WHen I play the clarinet I don't sit still... By people moving when they play, they actually get INTO the music. If you don't, then you probabaly suck.

  • @shutupnub1 Oh yes because when I make Allstate they count off points for not moving. ;)

  • wow!!! She sounds great:):) And she looks so beautiful:)

  • she looks like she's having a seizure while playing! SIT STILL AND PLAY YOUR CLARINET LIKE A NORMAL PERSON! >.<

  • I like big head twirls.

  • @3:24 ms. kam went horribly sharp!

  • @myun92

    i call it perfect

  • This is possibly the best performance of K622 that I've ever heard! It's not just the incredible richness of tone that she gets from the basset clarinet, It's the brilliance of her phrasing. I wish this was available on CD (or even better, SACD).

  • Beautiful.

  • And you are really really sure it is a basset clarinet and not an english horn? Because it would be most amazing to produce a basset clarinet sound with an english horn, me thinks!

  • @verso69 yo dumb fuck, english horns are double reeded. she clearly has a mouthpiece

  • @venskus2009 ouch. that was harsh. you are correct, but you just sound like a child. even if you aren't a professional, we are talking about a professional performance right now. you can at least act like an adult and respectfully correct them, instead of being rude.

  • @venskus2009

Sorry my dear, I forgot to say "kidding", "joking" and to add 10 smileys, so that even someone of your caliber would understand the joke. Never mind, I think it is great that people like you exist, otherwise we wouldn´t have any smileys :-) !!!

  • @verso69 We also wouldn't have stuff like crime, ignorance, myspace.com, trombones, and raywilliamjohnson.

  • Wow !

  • Definitely a basset clarinet. Look at the distance between her R-pinky keys and the actual pads... a huge length! In other words, that clarinet is way longer than a normal Bb clarinet. not to mention different range :P

  • Magnifique (Y)

  • To jest chyba najlepsze wykonanie tego koncertu na świecie i największa z największych klarnecistów świata

  • @shmoothshailing hi, uh yeah that's how i (and everyone else in the english speaking world) say mozart. This FunNotNuts character (the reason for my confusion) is claiming you pronounce it "mow-zart", which you probably would if you're Austrian/German. Thanks anyway.

  • Incredible! Like she keep going on for ever. Thanks

  • Oh that I could play like that!

  • its easy

  • Her tone is so amazing, even at the pianissimo parts. I am currently working on this piece and those are the parts I have most trouble with.

  • actually incredible tone

  • can you send me that sheet music she was playing

  • i wish i coul play like that

  • Site: ww.nossoclarinete.hd1.com.br

  • Excellent musician. I really enjoyed. Here in Brazil, in nordete, we are in need of such an instrument.

I would post this video on my site on the clarinet, so that our students can enjoy this beautiful concert with a basset clarinet.

Where our students are poor and do not have a bus to school. But through this video can enjoy this concert

  • i hope she'll stop turning, although i know she's trying to be expressive

  • Her clarinet has six keys at they bottom!!!!

I know it said a basset clarinet but i was still suprised when i saw it for some reason

Probably because i play a clarinet that only has four at the bottom

Plus, if i could play like this id be going and trying out for America's Got Talent!!!

  • @bulldogfan87 more like the berlin phil.

  • @YouveStolenMyEyes the what?

  • @bulldogfan87 .. the berlin philharmonic. Arguably the best orchestra in the world.

  • LOVE IT!!!lol

  • Jesus. Shes good!

  • One of the best renditions I have heard for a very long time

  • amazing

  • Great :)

I really like the way she acts with the emotions.

It means that she really feels the music.

(By the way: there is no discussion possible, it clearly is a basset clarinet. You can see this because of the extra 'buttons' at the end. (I'm not English))

  • The concerto was originally written for a special instrument designed for (possibly by) Anton Stadler, the clarinettist for whom Mozart wrote this (and many other clarinet works, like the "Kegelstatt" trio, for instance).

Ms. Kam may be playing it on a bassett clarinet b/c the concerto contains notes below the register of an ordinary 'A' clarinet. Most soloists transpose the notes upward. This part of the instrument's range is particularly prevalent in the second movement.

  • @jbarbri Not maybe.....she is....when have you seen a regular stock Bb soprano clarinet extending almost down to your knees??

  • her brother Ori is, IMHO, the world's finest viola player. So huge talent runs in the family. :)

  • mmmm....how to say....

  • Its STAVOVSKÉ Theatre(Nostitz theatre) in PRAG,where is Mozart plays premiere DON GIOVANNI

    in 1787

  • one word "Mozart" nothing else

  • nice dress she has on and excellent concert theater hall

  • wow, wonderfully played!

  • wow, she plays wonderfully!

  • i used this for my band project, well done!

  • it looks like they are playing in front of a green screen.

  • pet peev: I hate it when people say the name Mozart with it sounding like: Moatzart.

This was a lovely performance and the hall didn't hurt either.

  • @FunNotNuts

Half as bad! Think of the French pronunciation: "Mo-ZAAAAR".

  • @FunNotNuts how do you say mozart?

  • @YouveStolenMyEyes "Mow-zart"

  • I don't know if there is a basset clarinet because i play basset clarinet and there isn't the same sound but her sound is fantastique at 1minute 30!

  • @deguismols1258 It's a basset....you probably play the bass clarinet...the basset clarinet is different...basset = A clarinet with lower joint extension.

  • dont u mean "a bass clarinet" not "an bass clarinet"

  • @Agomongo1235 PICKY

  • wat did i say?

  • which orchestra is this?

    thanks

  • Who is everyones favurite composer

    mine is mozart

  • @dragonfly3895 I surely agree this is one(if not the best) of the greatest clarinet concertos as every movement is almost perfectly composed. But you can't forget the many other amazing clarinet concertos! But in general Mozart isn't my favorite :p

  • EH its great and all, but i really dont like how she portrays the piece, its not the best interpretation

  • There should be no debate about whether this is a Basset Clarinet, haha.

Look how many keys are on the right pinky. At least 5, maybe six. More than any standard Clarinet, with the exception of a Buffet Tosca with its alternate F key.

Not only that, but it goes below low E. It's not that hard to figure out.

  • @daudert It also just plain looks to big to be a Bb Soprano Clarinet.

  • it's so fucking evident it's a basset clarinet... no other clarinet without the same kind of bell of a bass clarinet is so fucking long...

  • I think it sound better on the basset clarinet but that is by no means necessary. Actually if it wasn't for mozart the clarinet might have been forgotten. Even Haydn didn't know what to do with it, so kudos to mozart. By the way I think the reason he said he disliked the flute was to elevate the clarinet

  • The way she sways with the music reminds me of a flutist.

  • thank you!

  • 3:00 to 3:30 is a pretty good bit.

  • Yeah. Being a composer, I can say that her claim that it's a Basset clarinet is true, seeing as how it frequently goes lower than the standard A clarinet is supposed to be able to go in its range. (Some of the runs would be taken an octave higher if this was an A clarinet!)

In other news, it's nice to hear this concerto on its original instrument. Thanks for posting this!

  • i play a clarinet in my band and i love it so much i am still learning but teacher thinks that the clarinets are amazing!

  • She's good!!!!

  • Absolutely delightful!

    I love Mozart

Thank you for sharing on You Tube.

    Bravo! 10+*****

    Amelia:)

  • Certified Intergalactic! Sublime: 2:46-3:00.

  • That is freakin sick!

  • your wrong! if you dont like it dont watch it!

  • No you got the wrong idea, I thought it was amazing not bad when I said it was freakin sick.

  • LOL! I wondered why it looked so long. AHAHAHA!! dumbo me...CLARINET ROCKS!!

  • wooh thats crazy sick

  • Thank you youtube for introducing me to Sharon Kam. This is my favourite version of the Mozart concerto, it just seems to sparkle with personailty.

I have to get some of her recordings!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Is that clarinet in the key of A or Bb or Eb or WHAT plaese reply

  • It is a basset clarinet, which is an A clarinet with an extension to the written C below middle C.

  • I never forget this Mozart's piece which I played in Bb Clarinet for my practical exam but I couldn't express my musical feeling like Sharon ...

  • i've come to realize that THIS is Mozart's most mature work; a subtle culmination of all his talents, which was fittingly his last purely instrumental composition. you can just FEEL the control he had over his music by this point. a perfect balance between drama & lightheartedness. things later composers could arguably never quite master so flawlessly

  • i've like..seen this alot! xD

  • Beautiful.

  • LOVELY! I also love 1. That she's playing a Bassett Clarinet (would love to have one) and that she's actually got the sheet music infront of her.

  • her musicality is amazing...

  • where do i get the music for this

  • Comment removed

  • I played this piece for my higher music exam a few years ago. LOVE IT.

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow idk that ther was such a way to turn this peice in to a show it was interesting to c but def better to listen to

  • Absolutely perfect :what a wonderful clarinet to play mozart ! with the"la" or "cor de basset",it's impossible to be authentic

  • I simply cannot stop listening.

  • me neither.

I wish I could play like that.

  • This is beautiful!

  • Awesome. She's not too bad to look at either. :)

  • This is amazing.

    Her sound is SPOT ON.

And its rare to see such emotion put into such a difficult piece.

And anyone who says differently is purely jealous.

  • @gymrat709 I SAY OTHERWISE (Insanely Jealous)

  • Certified Intergalactic! Bravissima, Kam!2:47-3:00 is sublime!

  • Hardest piece of music ever written, and Mozart wrote it as a joke. The clarinet was not a classical instrument at the time because the technology wasn't there to make them correctly, so they were always out of tune.

  • The mozart clarinet concerto is not the hardest piece of music ever written, are you kidding? Just because the clarinet may not have been a classical instrument at the time, does not mean this piece was written as a joke. There are MUCH more difficult clarinet pieces out there, specifically pieces by Spohr are much more difficult.

  • Blegh. Sphor is difficult, but immature. This concerto takes maturity.

  • all i have 2 say is freaking awesome and ur showmanship is freakin gorgeous

  • She has a great tone and all but she really needs to get over herself.. I would never want to study with her. WAY too much movement, and also she looks ridiculous.

  • Fantastic!

  • *BASSET

  • ALL YOU IDIOTS OUT THERE WHO DON'T THINK IT'S ABASSET HORN WTF.... GO JUMP IN A HOLE AND STAY THERE!!!!...and she has no neckstrap...that's pretty skillful

  • It's a basset clarinet, actually. :) A basset HORN is pitched in F a third lower than this instrument, and has a curved neck and bell, much like an alto clarinet.

  • true, true... haha

  • she has a very beautiful sound.

  • just out of curiosity, is she moving like that cause it looks diff. and cool or is it for better sound somehow??

  • she's sexy...damn

  • - Maravilhoso! O instrumento mais ousado, mais lindo e visualizado, tanto em banda como lindos solos!

    Parabéns!

  • she overdoes the emotions. no match compared to Martin Frost.

  • Lovely sound, different version to the one I have, bar 109 6th semi quaver is e natural on my part not e flat as played in this version!

  • Yes, before I posted I have never heard it played with this notation, 3 records and one written that I have are all the same and the times I have heard this played the same as mine, BUT searching through youtube have found many of both versions. It sounds like a wrong note to me because I havn't heard it like this before. Which did Mozart compose?

  • dude. what are you talking about? can you be more specific? im interested.

  • love mozart's music! Classical rox

  • Tha´s so beautyfull great performer.

  • Would she please stop move her head from side to side?... make the sound wobbled and unstable every time she does it... jesus...

  • Correct!

  • That is called: Emotion!

  • fuckin boem clarinet..

=> german style clarinet is much better!!

  • *****5 stars

  • wonderful!!!!

  • Mozart: humanity redeemed through art, forgiven, and reconciled with nature and the absolute.

  • I love people who move with the music! It makes it that much real!!

  • GREAT MOZART IN ANY KEY !

  • I like most the part at 2:47-3:00. Stupefying!

  • to everyone: a basset clarinet is an A or Bb soprano clarinet which has been modified in a way such that it descends to a low written C (lower than that of the soprano clarinet which is to a low written E). the basset clarinet is not a brand, and no it is NOT a bass clarinet (which descends to a low written Eb and is an octave lower than a soprano). the basset has a particularly pleasant sound on low Bb and F, however the basset is usually only used to perform this piece. plz ask any questions

  • your thought is incorrect. a Bb is simply a half-step higher than an A (for transposition purposes), both are "soprano" clarinets, the order of the clarinet family (from highest to lowest): Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Bass, Contrabass. The clarinet she is playing is in FACT a Basset. i will not debate this any further.

  • I love mozart, he has great music for the clarinet :D

  • Wow, I wonder if the fingering is any different than the normal clarinet?... 8D

  • no all clarinets have the same fingers, that is, all french style clarinets.Does anyone about Eb clarinets? are they the same?

  • Eb clarinets are about 1/2 the length of a Bb or A clarinet. The fingering is exactly the same. Because of the higher register, one can play higher notes a lot easier. Mostly used for marching bands.

  • I don't care what kind of clarinet this is...

    she rocks :)

  • Thanks for your information.. And Well.. is the basset clarinet still available on Market?

  • This is clarinet "la" you can by it everywhere!!!

  • Yes, this clarinet is made by buffet, and **maybe** selmer, (plz clarify anyone) it is available in its entirety (check buffets site: search "buffet-crampon" as a google inquiry, should be the first link), or as an extention to attach
