I got drunk for 2 yrs solid on about 36 units a day, now while drinking - my only escape is cut down then use valium. The meds say to not self prescribe, I have no choice but to carry on drinking vodka until im dried out, I agree the harm outweighs the benefit.

The actions of muslims should not be taken as the proper islamic ruling on matters. Muslims do take drugs throughout their lives and they have the choice to do so. Generally anything taken that harms the body in large quantities are to be avoided in small quantities. That is why many Islamic scholars do not like to say that drugs and coffee (and similar items) are prohibited. But anyone can see the extremely harmful effects of drugs on a body that God (in Islam) said to keep healthy
I would also like to add that scholars have said that if one wants to reach piety then they must learn to decrease how much they eat in order to attain a body that does not feel satiated or else one would not be able to worship God with full attention of mind, body, and soul. In this case one could assume that the removal of food/drinks/drugs that relate to decreasing the attention of the mind, body, and soul in worship would be an act of piety.

There is no evidence to show that the Prophet Muhammad ever drank wine. There are statements that are found contrary to such a notion though.
Verses of the Quran did not come down at once but through stages according to the situation of the muslims at the time.
The verses banning alcohol did not come down immediately when the revelation had started. It came down eventually when the community had built enough belief in God that they would be willing to prohibit such a destructive drink.

This is not proven, but even if it was proven. Who says that when a muslim does something like that it is allowed in Islam? everybody makes mistakes. Dont judge Islam by its people, Its like a driver crashes with a car and then blames the car for it.

If community, then can the community make changes to some of the old laws which might not be so applicable nowadays compared to 2000 years ago?

Our government is so stupid alcohol does more damage than any other drugs. I happen to love/hate alcohol but if it were tossed off the earth I would be much happier. I am born a Jew but I like the presentation and reasons for not drinking. P.S I love Saki with a shot of beer but that cant be good for my liver.

The majority of Islamic scholars have said that drugs are a detestable act that if done can be sinful. Scholars are hesitant to say they are sinful because caffeine and other substances can also be damaging when taken in large quantities. But in general drugs are against the idea of keeping a body pure of intoxicants, which is a requirement of muslims.
There is a difference between the practices of muslims and the proven proper teachings of the Quran and Prophet Muhammad.

If you do drugs while being a muslim then it is a sinful act and not conducive to the islamic character which focuses on the purity of the mind, body, and soul.
As ibnul Qayyim once said, the only thing that can make a person a non muslim is if he/she rejects what made them muslim in the first place (ie: the belief in one God and Muhammad as His last messenger)

The actions of muslims should not be taken as the proper islamic ruling on matters. Muslims do take drugs throughout their lives and they have the choice to do so. Generally anything taken that harms the body in large quantities are to be avoided in small quantities. That is why many Islamic scholars do not like to say that drugs and coffee (and similar items) are prohibited. But anyone can see the extremely harmful effects of drugs on a body that God (in Islam) said to keep healthy

I would also like to add that scholars have said that if one wants to reach piety then they must learn to decrease how much they eat in order to attain a body that does not feel satiated or else one would not be able to worship God with full attention of mind, body, and soul. In this case one could assume that the removal of food/drinks/drugs that relate to decreasing the attention of the mind, body, and soul in worship would be an act of piety.

The worlds top 3 reserachers of the dead sea scrolls all revealed the fact that alot of people and so called presists where all on mushrooms! and then they got sacked.
I think their is more to this than mets the eye! l think alot of people took drugs and basically saw a god! and came up with this idea!

The issue of drugs is not stated in the Quran but Islamic scholars create analogies of what the Quran and the Prophet prohibited, and this is where the rulings of matter not mentioned directly in the Quran come from.
The existence of someone who has created the universe and what is within it comes from a rational deductive analysis of the created around us. Either you believe through proof and rationale that there is a creation of creation, or you don't.

he said that basically when a muslum is in great pain, you cannot even touch this person with any kind of medication! because this will "clean his sin" from suffering!

The ottomans did what they did; they are not the role models of muslims though you can find some good amongst them. The Prophet and his companions are the role models muslims SHOULD choose. As for Bilal Philips, he is coming from the view that if God is giving a person a hard time it is to make them better spiritually because you are being patient (as God mentions in the Quran).
